And the concern troll says "I see no evidence that more guns lead to less crime". And "I've never heard of Lott's study till this day, but let's pretend I've read the entire book and could easily dispute his stats if I wanted to.

What a bunch of bullshit. I am no longer entertaining good faith arguments on Gun Control, as I have seen the Left has no desire to approach the issue with honesty. Screw em, no more dialogue - YOU ARE NOT GETTING THE GUNS. PERIOD. Sorry about your socialist wetdream, it's not going to happenn, and we will kill every last one of you motherfuckers if you make us.

There are a lot of doomsayers out there these days. What I find inspiring is this recent story aboutthe ingenuity of brave Hong Kong protesters using LASER POINTERS against the facial recognition security cameras:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/hong-kong-protests-lasers-facial-recognition-ai-china-police-a9033046.html

Ingenious, no? I find it amazing, and a testament to the human spirit yearning for freedom.

And I might add that Google and other U.S. firms supporting the communist, totalitarian Chinese government with these facial recognition technologies should all rot together in Hell.

Meanwhile, the Chinese military is massing on the Hong Kong border...

True. You teach males that masculinity is toxic and that they have nothing to live for, other than to be demonized in service to your latest political cause... what outcome do you expect?

The greatest threat to every civilization has been idle males between the ages of 18-40. Once they go feral, everything comes down.

Conundrum: I don't think politicians, left or right, inspire these shooters. They're flakes. What inspires them are other flakes and the publicity those flakes receive. By reporting on and discussing these flakes, we are encouraging the next flake to take up arms, but, on the other hand, how can you ignore a mass shooting?.....We don't publicize high school suicides. Maybe we should take this for our paradigm in the way to handle these shootings....I don't know what to do. I try to tune out when these things occur. The solutions that people propose are actually part of the problem.

I've got a bathroom area that I think was rewired by the previous homeowner's boyfriend loser. It keeps popping light bulbs, maybe once a week. Until I get a professional electrician to look at it, will it make any difference if I get a lower watt bulb? Or maybe something heavier duty?

Get your electric meter out and check voltage. Sounds like 220V on a 120V circuit problem. If you can find one, put in a 220V bulb. Amazon carried but a small selection, or the Amazon search isn't properly finding them- which I find with volts, amps, and watts to be a problem.

If you do have 220 volt to the bulb fixture- it's an easy fix at the switch. If it's operated by only one switch...

Sprezzatura said...

"If you do have 220 volt to the bulb fixture- it's an easy fix at the switch. If it's operated by only one switch..."

How so?

If there are two hots and no neutral, like a typical 220 circuit, that go to the switch and then one of these hots is broken via the switch, while the other hot goes to the fixture w/o being switched, how will messing w/ the switch help?

I suppose there could be a 14-3 (or maybe 12-3) that goes to the switch such that there is a neutral that is not used. That'd be odd. But, could have occurred if someone was running two 120 circuits in one wire (like some folks will do for kitchen receptacles).

Aside from that stuff, checking the circuit that shuts off this light in the panel would identify the voltage, re 120 or 240.

But, I don't actually know that stuff. Just pick up a basic thing or two here or there.

Gospace said...

There are going to be additional wires in the junction box. White is supposed to be neutral, green ground, and black or any other color, live. Having seen some wiring nightmares, I always test. Black and red are your common 220/240V wire connections. Either one to white- but it should be black for standardization, should give you 120V.

I’ve been wondering if you have considered doing a podcast. I really love the way you’ve sparred with good minds on bloggingheads.

Sprezzatura said...

Go,

There may not be a neutral, even if there is a white wire. For example, 220 in-wall heaters don't require a neutral (because they don't have internals that run on 120). So, for a 12-2 "Romex" on a 20A 220V circuit: the white wire would be a hot, and the black would be the other hot. The electricians should put black tape on the white wire in this situation. IOW, just cause ya see a white wire in a j box, you can't 100% know that it's a neutral (go to the panel to check).

And, technically the ground is probably a bare wire, i.e. not green, as in NM, which is what folks use (if yur not in conduit).

IMHO.

Left unsaid there is the assumption that after a certain number of such mentions, the state would be Justice field in coming in, possibly incarcerating the offender, and seizing all of his guns. No doubt a number of us here, probably led by the notorious Fen, would already be in the territory where concerned leftists could seize our firearms for our own safety, and that of the greater society.

I don't know if she is or isn't, but I don't think she's reckless or stupid enough to threaten or impose tariffs as casually as sneezing. (Trump, demonstrably, is both reckless and stupid.) China rightly perceives this as economic warfare against them, and they will respond accordingly. Look at what Trump's stupidity has done to the markets, and to the "pensions" (401bs and the like that aren't real pensions) that rise and fall with the markets. (Just think if our Social Security system were transferred over to the markets.)

I am hard pressed to figure out how economically illiterate one must be not to realize that the US has been caught up in an economic war with China for decades already. The US is fighting back for a refreshing change. The notion that a socialist or communist economy can beat a capitalist economy is laughable.
