Via Lucianne:

Why does most of Africa stay poor while other parts of the world prosper?

People blame things like climate, the history of colonialism, racism, etc.

But I say Senegalese businesswoman Magatte Wade gives the right explanation: too many rules.

"Once you hire someone, good luck getting rid of them for any reason," Wade complains. Her government must approve every firing.

"Then the tax code is so complicated... worth at least two or three truckloads of paper."

Wade started a lip balm company. Some of her ingredients are not made in Senegal, so she imports them. To "protect" Senegalese manufacturers, the government makes importing ingredients expensive.

"Some have a 70% import tariff on them!" she says.

According to a credible memoir that was published by a reputable publishing house a couple years ago, JFK laughed, back on an evil day in the early 1960s, while a teenage girl who had just turned 18 gave a blow job to one of his ugliest aides, at the side of the pool where JFK and his nasty friends were lounging, she did it because she thought she loved him.

You have coins in your pockets with a picture of JFK on them.

The woman who wrote the memoir said JFK did it (told her to give a blow job to the ugly old guy) because he, like Epstein, was a nasty pervert.

Epstein was evil but he was not the only one, he came from a long tradition.

U.S. Intel Gatekeeper Dragging Feet on Trump-Russia Files, Insiders Say

By Paul Sperry, RealClearInvestigations
August 28, 2019

'More than three months after President Trump granted his attorney general unprecedented power to declassify intelligence files, key U.S. intelligence agencies are still withholding documents related to the Trump-Russia affair, say people with direct knowledge of White House discussions on the subject.

The source of the logjam: the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which Trump is in the process of shaking up after the resignations last month of its director, Dan Coats, and principal deputy, Sue Gordon. “Establishment” officials in that agency are still dragging their feet, say the sources, who spoke on condition that they not be further identified.

Sources who have seen the documents generally described their contents to RealClearInvestigations. They said the material still under wraps includes:

Evidence that President Obama’s CIA, FBI, and Justice Department illegally eavesdropped on the Trump campaign --- cases separate from the FBI’s disputed FISA court-approved surveillance of Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

President Obama and CIA chief John Brennan: key briefing still under wraps.

An August 2016 briefing CIA Director John Brennan hand-delivered in a sealed envelope to Obama, containing information from what Brennan claimed was "a critical informant close to Putin." The informant is believed to have actually been a Russian source recycled from the largely debunked dossier compiled by ex-British agent Christopher Steele for the Hillary Clinton campaign.

An email exchange from December 2016 between Brennan and FBI Director James Comey, in which Brennan is said to have argued for using the dossier in early drafts of the task force’s much-hyped January 2017 intelligence assessment. That spread the narrative that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the alleged Clinton campaign hacking to steal the election for Trump.

Copies of all FBI, CIA and State Department records related to Joseph Mifsud, the mysterious Maltese professor whose statements regarding Papadopoulos allegedly triggered the original Russia-collusion probe.

Transcripts of 53 closed-door interviews of FBI and Justice Department officials and other witnesses conducted by the House Intelligence Committee. The files were sent to the agency last November.

The transcripts “demonstrate who was lying and expose the bias that existed against Trump before and after his election,” said Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) of the House Judiciary Committee. They also reportedly contain evidence of a Democratic National Committee attorney maintaining Russia-related contacts with the CIA during the 2016 campaign....'

Being a low carb diet guy (since 2004) I do not drink a lot of beer. I want the beer I do drink to be somewhat special, not your usual lager or big batch producer stuff (Bud, Miller, Coors, etc.). Lite beers are right out. I particularly like citrus heavy IPAs (there is some controversy about these among aficionados), special stouts, and other interesting ales. Recently was educated about so called 'session' beers. Apparently they are lower in alcohol and so good for an extended session of drinking, without getting too drunk.

My go to drink is something with gin - Chuck's gin and tonic is quite good, big fan of a Hendricks martini with some cucumber garnish, or a plain old gin rickey. Delish. Also, nothing wrong with wrapping up a hot summer day with a Dark N' Stormy or two.

The short answer is, because it's full of Africans.

Tribal Africans. Read Theodore Dalrymple's essay, After Empire.

Like most of the people I met in Rhodesia, we tried to treat our staff well, providing extra help for them for the frequent emergencies of African life—for example illness among relatives. In return, they treated us with genuine solicitude. We assuaged our conscience by telling ourselves—what was no doubt true—that they would be worse off without our employ, but we couldn’t help feeling uneasy about the vast gulf between us and our fellow human beings.

By contrast, our relations with our African medical colleagues were harder-edged, because the social, intellectual, and cultural distance between us was far reduced. Rhodesia was still a white-dominated society, but for reasons of practical necessity, and in a vain attempt to convince the world that it was not as monstrous as made out, it had produced a growing cadre of educated Africans, doctors prominent among them. Unsurprisingly, they were not content to remain subalterns under the permanent tutelage of whites, so that our relations with them were superficially polite and collegial, but human warmth was difficult or impossible. Many belonged secretly to the African nationalist movement that was soon to take power; and two were to serve (if that is the word to describe their depredations) as ministers of health.

The African doctors were paid the same as the British doctors.

The young black doctors who earned the same salary as we whites could not achieve the same standard of living for a very simple reason: they had an immense number of social obligations to fulfill. They were expected to provide for an ever expanding circle of family members (some of whom may have invested in their education) and people from their village, tribe, and province. An income that allowed a white to live like a lord because of a lack of such obligations scarcely raised a black above the level of his family. Mere equality of salary, therefore, was quite insufficient to procure for them the standard of living that they saw the whites had and that it was only human nature for them to desire—and believe themselves entitled to, on account of the superior talent that had allowed them to raise themselves above their fellows. In fact, a salary a thousand times as great would hardly have been sufficient to procure it: for their social obligations increased pari passu with their incomes.

Tribal societies, not just African. That is where we are headed with Reparations just a start,

Here's Purple Penguin, outraged and confused by the way Chuck is treated. I'm reposting it to forward the conversation that's been pushed of the page:

Purple: can you explain why you hate Chuck so much? I have my theory (based on his response in this thread) but would like you hear your own (and others) reasoning for it.

It's not hatred, and that wasn't my quote. And I have explained this several times. But we will pretend you are asking in good faith and I will explain it to you One More Time:

"When we defeat and enemy, we tend to their wounded and treat captured troops humanely.
But traitors? Traitors we hang."

See, Chuck is treated harsher than any Lefty here because he claims to be a Republican NeverTrumper. Now, you may not be aware of this, but the Republican Party has had a kind of pact for many decades now (my memory of it starts with Reagan). Goes something like this: "We may fight like cats and dogs during the primaries, but once we have decided on our nominee for President, we will rally around and support them, for the good of the party."

Trump supporters upheld our end of the bargain for years. When the RINO Romney was nominated, we held our nose, expressed our criticism in private, supported him publicly and voted for him. When the "Maverick Moderate" McCain sellout was nominated, we held our nose and did the same.

Now comes Trump, and it's the RINO Establishment's turn to hold THEIR nose, express THEIR criticism privately, and support OUR nominee publicly. And what do people like Chuck do? They break their word, they bolt the party, they form a NeverTrump Cuckhold of sore losers who openly advocate for Hillary FUCKING Clinton. They embrace our enemies and openly attempt to sabotage our legitimately elected Republican President.

Hanging is too good for them. NeverTrumpers held us to the GOP pact but then broke the agreement when it suited them. They are traitors and will be treated as such. Forever.

Now, other people have other reasons the despise Chuck, quickly listed:

1) Chuck is a Moby, pretending to be a Republican so he can attack Trump from the right. Not only is this seen as dishonest, his amateurish attempt insults the intelligence of many who have gotten tired of rolling their eyes. Calling the base "teabaggers" was a disaster for any remaining credibility he had.

2) Chuck routinely disrupts decent conversations with his Moby Trolling and latest "gotcha" that no one cares about (see: Titleist Gate), and has confessed that his goal on this blog is to destroy it by "driving a wedge between Althouse and her commenters". People who could care less about Trump are very annoyed by this.

3) Chuck has been politely asked to leave this blog by Meade, and has refused to do so. This is seen as not only rude, but in many eyes now justifies whatever invective and hatred they can cast his way. He is squatting in Althouse's living room after she told him to leave.

Hope that helps inform your "concern" about the way Chuck is treated here.

And that is very odd: whenever Chuck is wounded so badly he has to leave the field, you suddenly show up to defend him or carry on where he left off. That's a pattern I advise you stop repeating. It's why I suspect you are his sock.

And really, why would you want to associate or defend a traitor? Even the Brits despised Benedict Arnold. The Chinese even have proverbs warning against it.

It's not just Africans. Der Spiegel talked about a Greek businessman who moved to Estonia rather than go bankrupt.

Estonia Lives the European Dream

By Ralf Hoppe and Jan Puhl

The Estonians, with little debt, an enthusiastic attitude toward Europe and a stoic approach to austerity measures, are a model EU nation in the midst of a crisis. They live in a digital republic defined by a business-friendly atmosphere and government transparency, an image that is attracting European expats.

When a Greek leaves a sunny country filled with olive trees, magnificent beaches and warm sea foam, when he leaves a place where summer lasts for seven months and moves to a country where he is held captive by a seemingly endless winter, it's bound to raise a few questions. Some relate to the country he has left, but his new home raises even more questions. And there is one question that affects both countries: Why is the one society driving people away, while the other draws them in?

Loukas Nakosmatis, a friendly, stout Greek with a three-day beard, the chef and owner of "Artemis," answers this question with an entire story, his own war of the roses. The 46-year-old began developing his business four years ago while he was living in Athens, he says. It involved importing flowers from the Netherlands -- mostly roses, tulips and a few exotic varieties -- on overnight cargo flights. He intended to sell them in Athens, a dusty city of stone walls and buildings whose residents are desperate for green plants and fresh flowers.

Nakosmatis signed contracts and statements of intent with three or four dozen flower shops that wanted to buy his flowers. The profit margin for flowers is large, says Nakosmatis, a factor of 10 or even 20 percent, and it would have been enough money for everyone, including the retailers and him as an importer. It sounded like a brilliant plan, at least on paper.

But it was a trap, he says. After a year, Nakosmatis had receivables of about €30,000 ($40,000), and after a year-and-a-half they had gone up to €45,000. Almost all of his buyers owed him money. They had recognized his weakness: He was under pressure to unload his product while it was still fresh. You have to sell a rose, says Nakosmatis, quoting a Greek saying, or it will sell you, because it dies.

His customers used every trick in the book. They would have him show up at their shops with a delivery van full of flowers when they knew that they would be away, or they would say that they happened to be out of cash and would promise to pay him later, on another day, or by the next Monday -- but then they kept putting him off, says Nakosmatis.

(There's a lot more where that came from)

"Just a few weeks ago, the New York Times #Resistance fanbase on Twitter demanded they rewrite a headline about Trump denouncing racism in the wake of the El Paso shooting to make it meaner and less, you know, accurate.

They complied. They offered up several versions of the headline trying to placate their #Woke readership. (Though 90% of these people are not "readers" -- they only see the headlines on Twitter. They're too poor to subscribe.)

Now, they publish a story claiming that the Tea Party abandoned its calls for budget discipline in order to align themselves with Trump. Contentious enough already.

But #Woke #Censors on Twitter demanded the article be rewritten to include the slanderous claims of racism the left lodged at the Tea Party. and the New York Times -- supposedly "news professionals" whose experience and training give them special status as stewards of public information which the unwashed rabble cannot hope to ever be -- now once again throws out its first draft in order to placate the unwashed rabble."

Tribal societies, like those in Africa but also Serbia, do not function as trust societies. It is all about the clan. You are not an individual, as most Americans think of ourselves. You are part of the family or clan or tribe.

"The Godfather" was an example. The African doctors were unable to live independent lives. The black kids in the inner city cannot "Act White" and look as though they want to improve their lives.

narciso let me tell you something

I like losers

You wanna know what God thinks when he sees a loser?

God asks himself if he was not just a little too much impressed with his love for his own family when he chose MARY AND JOSEPH to be the parents of his child

Remember this - because God remembers this -----

We all know how difficult it is to have average people as parents

GOD HIMSELF could not face the challenge of watching his beloved son have average parents

GOD LOVES US ALL BECAUSE AS FUCKED UP AS ALMOST ALL OF US ARE THERE WAS A POINT IN TIME WHERE WE SAID TO GOD

You know what, God, why don't you let Jesus have the great parents who love their children as his parents in this world

we are fine with that

we will take on the evildoers and gluttons and rage bots as our parents while YOUR SON JESUS got to have Mary and Joseph, those wonderful saints, as his parents

Look, maybe tonight you are thinking God does not love you.

TRUST ME GOD LOVES YOU AND GOD APPRECIATES EVERY KIND THOUGHT YOU HAVE EVER HAD FOR THE LOSERS WHO GOD (I mean I like God as much as anyone) ALLOWED INTO YOUR LIFE

Trust me it is easy to pray to GOD

GOD LOVES YOU

and God respects the hardship and suffering you have endured

GOD KNOWS HOW EASY YOUR LIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN IF YOU HAD PEOPLE LIKE MARY AND JOSEPH AS YOUR PARENTS

trust me. God loves you, and God knows how difficult your life has been.

Follow the 10 commandments, they are easy to follow, and pray with love in your heart.

FOR GOD'S SAKE I KNOW HOW IMPRSSIVELY RELIGIOUS YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN IF MARY AND JOSEPH WERE YOUR PARENTS

God loves you, and respects you, as long as you know that you need to avoid the temptations of sin. GOD RESPECTS yOU AS LONG AS YOU LIVE A DECENT LIFE - follow the 10 commandments, and trust in God .......

AND IT IS EASY TO BE HAPPY

I remember.

My middle daughter's very best friend (from 1st grade) died suddenly and unexpectedly last week from a brain aneurysm. She was 25.

For those inclined, prayers would be appreciated for her family and for my daughter, who is absolutely devastated. Very much appreciated.

Condolences to her family and yours, heyboom. That is way too young and so sad.

Here's Purple Penguin, outraged and confused by the way Chuck is treated. I'm reposting it to forward the conversation that's been pushed of the page:

A) I ain't "outraged" at all. Rather, I'm laughing at you guys....try not to read too much more into it than that.

On the flip side, you're the one who started cussin' & fussin' because I didn't respond within "15 minutes". (Which also made me laugh). You and your other buddies are the ones who get all into a froth whenever Chuck posts, working yourself up so much that ya'll start talking about killing the guy. If anyone here is "outraged" its the guy in your mirror.

B) Yes, was a lil' confused as to why so many of ya'll wanna torture & kill Chuck, but you cleared that up. (Or at least why you wanna do so - others may have their own reasons) thank you for doing so.

C) Why did you edit out the first part of your post when you re-posted it here? 'cause I think that part is pretty important as well as kinda humorous...

Purple: Seriously - post a link to where you think I was lying.

Only if you drop the sockpuppet... maybe throw in a lap dance too?

I find it weird that you, of all people, would accuse others of having different logins. Aren't you the same fella who said it was impossible for sock-puppets to be on this blog 'cause Meade can see the IP addresses and would expose 'em? Granted, that ain't an exact quote...but that's pretty much the gist of what was said when it was suggested you might have multiple logins, is it not?

And the "lap dance" comment makes it appear that you're accusing me of being Inga (as others on here have done). Yet, at the end of your post you suspect me of being Chuck. Are you saying that Inga is Chuck? Or do you want a lap-dance from Chuck? Or by the time you got to the end of your post had you already forgotten what you said at the beginning of it?

Which is it?

(And for the record - "PurplePenquin", or just "Penquin" for short, is the nickname I have used both online and in the real-world for over 25 years, and is the only login I use for this blog.)

Irregardless of all that - fact remains that you are still refusing to show me any examples of the many lies you keep saying I've said...and that speaks volumes - not only about your accusation but also about you as a person. You gonna man-up and apologize or you just gonna keep on talking shit?

No need to answer now - sleep on it if you wanna.

No, it's not what I said.

That was the other weird thing you did: out of the blue you started randomly accusing me of being a sock. I simply said that Meade could easily see my IP addy and gave him permission (if he needed it) to confirm that I've always posted under this profile. I've changed the name a few times, but it always included "Fen".

"Irregardless", the rest of your nonsense doesn't deserve a reply. Though I look forward to many many more attempts by you to insist that you really really don't care. LOL.

Not at all. And do I have to spoon feed everything to you?

You've been obnoxious and rude to me, and you have lied about me. What that means is that I will call you whatever the fuck I want to, accuse you of whatever I feel like, and the day you get the courtesy of an explanation is the day you give me a lap dance.

ie. Never

Now go make me a sandwich, bitch.

I gave up cocktails because of the plastic straw. Now I buy coffee one disposable “cup” at a time with the cardboard heat wrapper, stir stick, plastic cover and a handful of napkins and a healthy pastry filled with out of season berries flown in from God knows where.

It’s good to be green.

Candy beer? New Hampshire would ban it cause it might attract the kiddies. They banned Founders Breakfast Stout for a time because there wax a baby on the label. The live free or die state of all places.

So. I read the leaked alleged script. It is so bad, I refuse to believe it is a real script. The script I think is fake has the twist ending Ace predicted. Last I saw, he wasn't convinced it was real either because of how bad it was. But. Suicide Squad got produced

The solution to the cocktail problem is obvious, unless you live in an area where carrying a concealed straw is a crime. Civil disobedience is an option if you have no dependents who will suffer if you are detained by the authorities.

Recently I saw a box of aluminum "straws" for sale in the supermarket. Imagine trying to get through airport security packing one of those. You'd be under suspicion for possessing drug paraphernalia.

On the plus side, you can probably achieve a higher spitball muzzle velocity with an aluminum straw.

There's probably a youtube video already about how to electrochemically etch rifling into them.

I've heard that the hero, at the end, is an elite who turns against his fellows and saves the deplorables.

No. The script I saw has her save herself only,. The Deplorables all die and she gets on the private jet to go home. Drinking champagne and eating caviar.

Liberals are even ruining alcohol now.

Oh Oh. Potential Trump voter here. Better call "Trump voters Anonymous" They will come over and explain why you should never do that. Oceans will rise in protest.

Of course, Susan Rice's son is president of Stanford Young Republicans, so there is that.

Uhm...that's what I said you said. So if Meade can see if you're a sock-puppet then he can see if I, or anyone else, is too. Duh!

You really should stop drunk-posting. Makes you look dumber than usual.

You've been obnoxious and rude to me, and you have lied about me.

While it is now obvious that I've treated you a tad rougher than you can emotionally handle (hence, this melt-down of yours), I have no idea about this "lie" you keep going on&on&on&on&on about. Pretty obvious that you're just making it up as an excuse in order to justify your rage. (That's a pattern for you - constantly blaming your behavior on other people. It's never YOUR fault that you're an asshole, is it? Always someone else who makes you behave as such, eh?)

Now go make me a sandwich, bitch.

Ha! Nice retort - you think that one up all by yourself?

*rolls eyes*

But if you're really hungry for what I got (and sounds like you are) then I'd be happy to make you a sandwich and deliver it to you personally.

Play your cards right, and you might even get that lap dance you're craving...but not before I'm done feeding you your lunch.
