I hope I'm not granting too much perspicacity to the American public, but Joe Biden is going to have a very hard time hiding the fact that he's an idiot.

I can't help chuckling at these polls that have Trump losing to some (or every) possible Dem candidate. I often wonder how many Democrats truly believe them. I mean, if they did, logically they wouldn't have anything to worry about, right? It's in the bag, right? Why fuss about it? Why continue to fight so hard? The strategy of calling everyone who disagrees with you a racist is clearly flawless.

Is there yet sufficient evidence we can dismiss the notion Dems will make going after a squishy middle a major strategy move? It’s all about Not Trump, pandering to never voters who turned out for Obama, and getting as many non citizens to the polls as they can.
I can't imagine anyone taking any poll regarding something 467 days away seriously. It is all spin, wishcasting, or whistling past the graveyard at this point. Polls couldn't reliably predict the 2016 result when it was ONE day away. Maybe this is precise, maybe this describes a reality that will prove itself out over time. But, I'm not going to bet until I have my ballot in one hand and a sharp pencil in the other.
Biden is not going to beat Trump in Ohio. The Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primaries are not until February. Joe Biden will probably still be a viable candidate after those events, but that’s not guaranteed.

I live in Ohio. I would be truly shocked if Biden or any Democrat were to defeat Trump in this state. There are a lot of "closet" Trump voters here. There are also many voters like me who voted for Trump reluctantly in 2016 who now will vote for him enthusiastically.
Also, from time to time I have been surprised by people who I assumed were liberal Democrats turning out to be Trump supporters. That includes a gay friend of mine who I had lunch with recently. I determined to avoid a political discussion altogether. Instead, he couldn't stop talking about how much he loved Trump, and hated the news media.
I was at a cafe a few weeks ago, and overheard three older men discussing Trump enthusiastically despite being Democrats. Their consensus was that the Democratic party had gone off the rails.
I could tell several such anecdotes from the past three years, but especially recently. There's a slow, incremental shift going on among people who are not political junkies. Trump is somehow getting his message out to them. Not to mention that the economy is going gangbusters in several local industries, especially construction and manufacturing.
