"Tony Robbins punishes followers who fail at his self-help tasks by calling them onstage in front of large crowds and making them drink an unidentified mixture 'designed to have a lasting effect for several hours.'"

"Video and internal documents reviewed by BuzzFeed News reveal that Robbins places 'L' stickers on audience members’ foreheads and then, while the song 'Loser' by Beck plays over the speakers, forces them to down a 'gross shot' whose contents he does not disclose to them.... Robbins’ lawyers denied that the “gross shot” contained laxatives –– only 'pickle juice, apple juice, lemon juice, tomato juice and a dash of tabasco'..."

Slightly off topic, but I’m surprised the NXIVM sex cult case hasn’t gotten more national media attention.

I find it's best to mentally replace the word "Buzzfeed" with "A deranged man with pants on his head".

Hasn't Tony Robbins expressed wrongthink (conservative viewpoints) before?

The actual socially, politically, privileged, weird, and depraved, right?

He has been doing his act for too long. He has been spinning his wheels for a very long time. Therefore he is becoming unhinged.

In that regard, the comparison that leaps immediately to my mind is Jerrold Nadler.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for adults who allow themselves to be humiliated like this. Nobody's making them drink anything, they're doing it voluntarily. Boo freakin' hoo. Oh, look what Tony made me drink, mommy. What is this, third grade?

Tony Robbins has gotten to the point where he's a caricature of himself. I think it's the teeth.

Caligula said...

Amazing what people will pay for, isn't it?

But so long as it's not poison and as long as participants can leave whenever they please, it's hard to see the problem: you paid to be abused, you got abused, when you coulda refused. So what's the problem?

"Tony Robbins" is just a name. It acquires meaning through use. I see how you want to use it, but you don't own it.

Thanks so much for writing that, it's almost as funny as the "Nordberg's Bad Luck" scene.

Frankly, I'd never heard of the guy. But this sort of masochistic behavior on the part of his followers is reminiscent of the followers of James Arthur Ray, New Age motivational speaker and his tragic 'sweat lodge' incident in 2008.

Ugh.

That sounds like a pretty nasty laxative - worse than the stuff you drink before undergoing a colonoscopy.

I like the misuse of the word "makes" in that blurb.

I've seen him berate an audience member in a video of one of his presentations. The audience member was on top of her game, so I was able to watch it all, but Robbins was way too harsh. He does seem like he would be that way.

Nevertheless, as my difficulties are primarily emotional, I find his comments useful.

It's like a great artist who turns out to be a horrible serial killer. But Robbins is only a little mean as far as I can tell, and I think this is a leftist move to intimidate.

It isn't getting much attention because the press hasn't found a way to blame Trump, at least not yet.

"Narcissistic cult leader" - sounds just like Obama (and most of the 2020 Dem wannabees). Politics seems to attract those people. I'd love to have a psychological workup of every presidential candidate, of all parties, to see who are the active or latent narcissistic sociopaths and psychopaths. That would help inform my vote!

Cult leaders know that offering punishment for sins of missing the group’s ideal always has a big market. Hit me again, Master until atonement is earned. That ritual is the meaning of Religion. The broken law must be atoned for. But this year’s special is only 10% of your income.

I was a young man during the popularity of the EST cult.

There was another one that was similar but even weirder as attendance was to a hotel room where members would listen to an audio tape for an hour.

I knew a bunch of guys who went through this and almost all turned out to be jerks. It was a sort of supercharged Ayn Rand thing.

Inga seems to be determined to exceed her reputation for stupidity. Trump has a rally and 150 thousand request tickets.

Biden has a rally and 150 attend, if that.

Trump is no cult leader. He never preaches, scolds or punishes his followers. He never says things like, "That's not who we are". Instead, he treats us like thinking adults who are capable of making their own decisions.

LOL! Oh boy...it’s astounding how you people can turn Trump into something he isn’t. Anyone who is perceived not to be in Trump’s pocket, gets his special treatment that consists of lies, smears, name calling, etc etc. In what reality do you people reside?

“President Donald Trump again criticized Fox News for covering 2020 Democratic presidential candidates on Sunday, hours before a town hall with Pete Buttigieg.

His description of the hour-long interview as "wasted airtime" followed a complaint last month that it was "so weird to watch Crazy Bernie" on the network.

"Fox is moving more and more to the losing (wrong) side in covering the Dems," Trump tweeted Sunday. "They got dumped from the Democrats boring debates, and they just want in. They forgot the people who got them there."”
—————————————
“President Donald Trump is very mad that a Fox News analyst called his attempts to obstruct special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation “immoral,” “criminal,” “defenseless,” and “condemnable.” So the president is using an approach straight out of his playbook: smearing the critic on Twitter and claiming that the person secretly begged him for stuff and is retaliating for not getting it.”

Inga...Allie Oop said...

“President Donald Trump on Monday slammed Fox News after his once-favorite network released a new poll that shows him trailing against many of his potential 2020 Democratic rivals.

The poll shows Trump losing to former Vice President Joe Biden by 10 points and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) by 9. It also shows Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg with very small leads over Trump.

“Something weird going on at Fox,” the president tweeted. “Our polls show us leading in all 17 Swing States.””

Oh boy! Hahahaha!

A cocktail, an overpriced cocktail, the fleecing of vulnerable women (and taxpayers). Part of a sacrificial rite.

n.n said...

Cocktails should only be offered in privacy, behind walls, under ethical guidelines, to mitigate the risk of social shame. Anyone who protests for civil and human rights is deplorable and secretly a rabid diversitist who should be labeled with a "D". The jury is still out on the hunters, judges, and followers. In other cases, men are branded with an "M", then a "#", then the climate changed, women and men are still still labeled with a "C". Cults seems to be a recurring phenomenon that follow social and political progressions until a new state is realized.

“It may not have been the most newsworthy moment of Donald Trump’s interview with George Stephanopoulos, but I found it interesting when the ABC News anchor asked the president what he considers the most difficult part of his job.

TRUMP: The hardest is usually the Congress, I find Congress more difficult than frankly than many of the foreign leaders.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Why is that?

TRUMP: Because they have their own views, you never know exactly but they have their own views and–

STEPHANOPOULOS: But that’s democracy, isn’t it?

TRUMP: Yeah, I guess it is, but…”

Hahaha, Trump complains that Congress has “it’s own views”. The nerve of them!

Inga...Allie Oop said...

Trump tells his followers not to believe their own eyes and ears and to disregard anything they see and hear if it’s not favorable to him, he’s done this from day one and you idiots do it.

“In a Monday morning tweet, the President warned his followers not to believe any polling that showed him trailing Democrats.
"Only Fake Polls show us behind the Motley Crew. We are looking really good, but it is far too early to be focused on that. Much work to do! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump wrote.

The tweet was reminiscent of the President's instruction to his supporters last year to "stick with us" and not to believe any news that reflects badly on him: "What you're seeing and what you're reading is not what's happening," he said in July 2018.”

What fools you are.

bagoh20 said...

"What fools you are."

That comment is hilarious. Good job!

It's almost like Hillary did win as predicted, Trump fired Mueller to avoid being found guilty of collusion, there is no border crisis, and you would learn something after two years of being lied to. Reality is an artful dodger.

It is a very strange phenomenon. I don't think any human in history has ever so thoroughly dominated the culture. The most famous man ever. Both Jesus and Hitler were pretty big too, but even they didn't have this reach in their own time.
