"Thinking is the best way to travel..."

Classic hippie advice from the Moody Blues. That's from 1968, which we're reminiscing about this morning a propos of "Of course, I'm reading 'If Seeing the World Helps Ruin It, Should We Stay Home?/In the age of global warming, traveling — by plane, boat or car — is a fraught choice.'"

Of course, the hippie way of life is also a fraught choice.

Speaking of travel that occurs entirely within the mind... there's "The Wizard of Oz." And that Moody Blues video — if you can stick with it long enough — looks a bit like Glinda the Good Witch is about to arrive...

Have you ever watched Wizard of Oz With the sound down and Dark Side of the Moon on?

I believe Victor Frankl traveled this way as well.

Thinking may be the best way to travel but nothing beats ruby slippers if you’re just trying to get home.

Dreaming is a kind of thinking. Clicking the ruby slippers was just what woke Dorothy up.

As I recall, even Dorothy's travel in the mind to Oz resulted in death and disturbance of the local ecology - at least was not so good for the Wicked Witch of the East.

I dislike travel, partly because most places don't have bathrooms as good as America's except in the showcase areas, partly because something eventually goes wrong with flights and you get stuck in an airport. I look forward to the days of virtual travel. I'd like to visit Paris between the wars.

Yet when I read about how bad the climatistas think it is, I get inspired to look at a map and plan another trip.

Wow, that's a lot of tape saturation. This must have been some sort of live, BBC experiment in psychedelic TV for the kids. Groovy.

I remember watching "The Wizard of Oz" on CBS as a kid. CBS played it once a year. Mom would make sure that we could have dinner on the coffee table in front of the black-n-white tube.

My parents didn't buy a color TV until I left for college. Go figure!

I was in my early 20's, and I think the movie had been re-released to some independent theaters. We got stoned, and bought tickets. You can imagine my surprise when the screen went to color.

“Your are their national heroin”

Now that’s a way to travel.

Ah, The Moody Blues. I still have several of their albums in my stereo cabinet. Still in excellent shape as I didn't let one of my college roommates play them on his record raper.

Oh god yes, how many brain cells died during Knights in White Satin and all that other meandering? Oddly, I liked them but am not the least bit nostalgic for them.

If thinking is the best way to travel, does that make traveling the best way to think?

Funny you should ask
