"Sometimes you feel like an animal in a cage. But in Los Angeles, no one cares."

"There’s definitely paparazzi chasing after you, but I don’t go out much, I don’t really do anything. I’m pretty boring."

Said Keanu Reeves, quoted in "Keanu Reeves Admits He’s A Lonely Guy And Says, 'I Don’t Have Anyone In My Life'" (a "7 min read" at Bright Feed).

Husband and I have watched a lot of video of Keanu training with a firearms guru for his John Wick movies. The man is a hell of a shot and comes across as a nice person who is willing to take instruction with zero ego resistance; he also never does that "look at me, look at me" thing that actors are always putting out there. He'd be welcome in our house anytime!

One partial solution, I imagine, would be moving out of LA. It isn’t really necessary for established talent to live there to keep working.

You know, I’m the lonely guy.

Interesting phrasing. Not "I'm lonely" or "I'm a lonely guy" but "I'm the lonely guy."

I read it as a wry comment on how a movie star with no tabloid love-life is perceived.

By all accounts he seems like one more the more decent and grounded actors in Hollywood.

He has the knack of making entertaining movies. So does Tom Cruise. They're good at their jobs. Maybe they haven't found the handle on all the other stuff in life, but they make good movies.

Me and my people got out just in time.

"Bubonic plague (aka The Black Death) probably already here, in Los Angeles, says Dr. Drew"

Watch the video below. Dr. Drew, who is no staunch conservative, is really sounding the alarm. The big cities of California are cesspools. I do not understand how Democrats keep getting elected to run things when they have such a terrible record across the board. I suppose getting elected no matter what results you produce is how you get these results.
So Dem voters are getting what they deserve and are forcing everybody else to go down the drain with them. Wise up people. If you can't get your fellow citizens to vote responsibly, you need to get the hell out.

And sometimes you feel like an animal in the living room.

But in Era of Trump's America, ¡todas las personas en Los Angeles estan preocupadas!

I suspect if he got out of LA and went into interior parts of the United States; he'd find few would recognize or care of his fame. Rather, they would be just interested in shooting guns with him and having a good time.

He needs a dog.

His vision, from the constantly passing bars,
has grown so weary that it cannot hold
anything else. It seems to him there are
a thousand bars; and behind the bars, no world.

As he paces in cramped circles, over and over,
the movement of his powerful soft strides
is like a ritual dance around a center
in which a mighty will stands paralyzed.

Only at times, the curtain of the pupils
lifts, quietly. An image enters in,
rushes down through the tensed, arrested muscles,
plunges into the heart and is gone.

He needs to get a haircut, trim his beard, quit smoking, move out of LA and get a real job.

In an interview years ago now, Keanu said "Some people's brains work better than others. I know I'm a meathead."

Then I watched The Matrix documentaries. Saw the neck brace he wore after injuring himself in martial arts training. Listened to him eloquently explain the Wachowski's long-shot style and why it's visually important. Listened to him eloquently explain how, if there's more than one way to get a shot, the Wachowski's choose "beautifully, the hard way." His generosity with his residuals is, of course, legendary.

If Keanu Reeves is a meathead, God grant we are all struck so dumb.

I don't go to movies much so my favorite role he played was in "Parenthood ," one of my favorites because it is so true. A long time ago.

Interesting phrasing. Not "I'm lonely" or "I'm a lonely guy" but "I'm the lonely guy."

Interesting that his mother-in-law in "The Devil's Advocate" played Steve Martin's girlfriend in "The Lonely Guy."

Keanu needs to be in one of my movies.

I'd pay for the plane ticket and a hotel room in Seattle.

He'd film for three hours and be done, except for when he has to go to Hollywood to collect his Oscar.

Yes, I would make the film that got Keanu his Oscar.

For under five-thousand bucks.

Provided the tickets are coach, and the hotel reservation isn't in high-tourist season.

I am Laslo.

Lonely Keanu is a well-worn meme, and he’s referencing it.

Always did think he was a decent chap. Mostly I've liked whatever he's in.

This quote from Parenthood always stuck with me: "You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, or drive a car. Hell, you need a license to catch a fish! But they'll let any butt-reaming asshole be a father."

Yeah, I agree he's boring.

Whatever you do, don’t kill his puppy after stealing his car. Just sayin'

He’s had a pretty rough personal life. His only child was stillborn nearly full-term, and his girlfriend died in a car wreck less than a year later. I think his father abandoned him when he was 3. His sister nearly died of leukemia. Lots of tragedy. After that much loss, I think I too would choose to be lonely and stay away from making more meaningful relationships where I could possibly lose another loved one and have to endure that pain.

He is kind of an outlier among Hollywood stars. When was the last time you saw him on the cover of People, or even written about? And the range of what he has done on screen is pretty wide- from My Private Idaho to Bill and Ted to John Wick.

"He is kind of an outlier among Hollywood stars."

That's why I want to get the man his Oscar.

I don't quite understand why he would miss this opportunity.

I am Laslo.

Jaq said...

He’s more of a “Lifetime Achievement” guy. He makes movies people like, so the Oscar is out.

Yancey Ward said...

I would love to see him in a Laslo production. That would be awesome!

I'll happily contribute to the Laslo Keanu film fund. His mother lives here in Eugene, or did.

Looked at his Arch motorcycles website-- at 70+ grand they are far outside my price range, alas.

Bright Feed with all its unintentionally amusing mistranslations is fun, briefly.

I like his on-screen persona, and the stories others tell about him are pretty convincing.

That's as far as I'll take it. He's an actor. Actors are paid liars and the top actors are convincing liars.

They're also good at maintaining their personas. Jennifer Aniston's always talking about marrying and having children, but doesn't and wont. She's a careerist. Hugh Grant for years has been talking about retiring, but doesn't and wont.

Like people have said upstream, he could move out of LA and hang around motorcyclists and gun enthusiasts and be accepted. Billy Joel, for example, owns a motorcycle shop on Long Island. He goes out there and will sell you a motorcycle if you demonstrate that you're more interested in bikes than the Piano Man.

One of the worst turns in American culture came when he hold actors and actresses up as heroes and care more about what they say than people who are true heroes and who uphold family, community, charity, and finding meaningful work. Instead, we get atomization, separation, and hostility to Western Civilization, and we're paying the price.
