We are back from the San Francisco Carnaval parade.
Its quite a big deal in San Francisco, as a production, but not so well known to tourists.
Its nothing like Rio, but for this little town its an event. There must be several thousand dancers and musicians and etc. involved.

Its a bit odd, seeing all these Samba schools with the ladies dressed Brazilian-style parading down resolutely downmarket Mission street. And especially with the weather barely breaking 60 F.
There is great courage and endurance on display.

Anyway, it seems that the years of the Carnaval have persuaded the other Latin-American and Central-American organizations to do as the Brazilians do. Now you see Puerto Ricans and Nicaraguans and even Bolivians in a very similar category of costumes. The generic Mexicans of course are resolute in their commitment to a neo-Aztec motif. But you also get regional Mexican contingents. Mexico is a large and diverse country.

Anyway, the thought came to me - parading down Mission street was our old Spanish empire. An empire which will not die as long as language an blood last - I paraphrase Unamuno I think. I was feeling very proprietary, old imperialist that I am. Note that Brazil was also part of the empire, for a hundred years in the Habsburg days.

The San Francisco Carnaval, come to think of it, is about as sexist a spectacle one can imagine taking place on modern city streets. Well, the Rio one, but that's a distinction of resources and scale, not intention.

And this in San Francisco.

Margaret Atwoods imagination failed. The opposite of feminism, the "patriarchy" that is inherent in nature, expressed in courtship and mating rituals, is exactly this.

One day maybe the locals will figure this out.

re: the Battle Hymn, wikipedia's article talks about Sargent Brown, and says:
Sergeant Brown died during a Union retreat: when the enlistment of Colonel Webster's Twelfth Massachusetts Regiment expired in July 1864, only 85 of more than a thousand men were left to return home to New England.

THAT'S a Pretty High Casualty Rate. Of course, many of those more than 915 casualties weren't KIA, and came home sooner (or later). But Still. Puts Route Pack Six in a different light.
Oh, and; 91% casualties in 4 years wasn't very unusual for the war.

The 1st Minnesota actually suffered the highest casualty percentage of any Union regiment in a single Civil War engagement during the battle of Gettysburg, losing 216 out of 262 men

Or, 82% casualties, in THREE DAYS (mostly on the second day).
Oh! and BEFORE that: percentages of casualties at the Battles of First Bull Run (20%) and Antietam (28%)

As Uncle Billie said, War isn't a bloody parlor game
May GOD Bless America, and her Soldiers

Nobody really cares that much about Russian collusion, but turns out that much of the whole Spygate scandal may have started out with Samantha Powers unmasking anyone talking about opposing the UN resolution condemning Israel and pushed by Palestinian terrorists. And, it looks like maybe unmasking by Powers of Israeli Call’s by Gen Flynn was what brought him to Obama White House attention.

See:Report: Declassified Docs Will Show That Samantha Power's 2016 Unmasking Efforts Were Related to Israel

You can tell Garland admired JFK's courage. If president Trump , who is up against an operation Cross-fire by the same agencies, finishes his 8 year course, we may get to see the rest of the story behind who ordered President Kennedy's 7 sniper cross-fire assassination hit and the FBI cover up.It's not over until it's over.

I just watched the video of Samantha Powers on election night 2016 - she invited all her lady friends to watch the election of Hillary. Good stuff.

In reading up on the unmasking connection to Palestine/UN vote, it appears that UN Amb. designate Nikki Haley tried to get ahold of Powers before a major UN vote on Palestine. Powers refused to take the call. Bitch.

Power's excuse always infuriated me.

1) If I said: "Sorry Secret Service, someone ELSE must have sent those threatening emails from my laptop", does anyone here think they would buy that?

2) If Private Doofus is allowed to access the S-2 Intelligence Officer's computer and sell secrets online, the Private goes to prison but the Intelligence Officer loses his commission and could possibly be sharing a cell. Even if he didn't know. He is SUPPOSED to know.

3) ZERO concern from Powers about who did this and why, ZERO effort to discover who and why. She's is out there with OJ looking for the perp...

Power's did the unmasking. She should hang. If she escapes justice, if she is above the law, then she is outside the law and extra-legal measures are acceptable to punish her. We need to start making an object lesson out of these people. They should be throwing themselves on the mercy of the court in fear that voiding the Rule of Law puts their loved ones at risk from people who have decided the only recourse is vigilante justice.

Instead, just like Lois Lerner and Valerie Jarret, Power's will get a book deal.

A letter from one of my uncles, who was in law school when the U.S. entered WWII. He enlisted, and was selected for Officer Candidate School.

"Soon, I do not know how soon, I shall have to demonstrate not only how much or how well I have learned the art of killing, but how well I have taught that abominable art to others. I know what's ahead. It won't be another pleasure trip, but though it may cost me my life, I wouldn't want to miss it! Should I be among the many who inevitably must fall, remember that I didn't go without realizing the possibility that might lose my life. Remember, too, that I give my life willingly, that I do so out of love for my country and all it's people, even the the traitors and selfish slackers. If I should die on the battlefield, I beg you to leave my body there. Some day our government may provide you the opportunity to visit my grave. If so, avail yourself of that opportunity."

The commanding officer of a heavy weapons platoon in the 116th regiment, 29th Division, he survived Omaha Beach. He wrote a "Victory Gram" home on June 11th, 1944.

"Dear folks, Alive and well. Don't worry. The Hun is strong, clever, and brave, but we are beating him. The past few days here have seemed like years - so much has happened. France is beautiful. I think I'll like it better than England. Maybe all of this free wine and champagne makes the difference! You see, it's purer than the water from the wells, which the Germans may have poisoned. Au revoir, Conrad."

He was KIA three days later, and is buried in the American cemetery in Normandy, France.

On this very blog, we've long speculated that the whole Russia investigation and collusion narrative was a coverup for prior domestic spying abuses under O. But Russia also became an independent obsession for Brennan et al., fueled by the sheer political convenience of it, then amplified to account for Hill's loss. It's conceivable that O pro-Pali attitudes contributed to the abuses and helped to trigger "investigations" of Flynn et al., with Russia again being cover of sorts, but I see no direct evidence of it yet and would think it amounted to a confluence of abuses and conveniences.

from the NY POST:
Imagine, for a moment, what the political reaction would be if a leading Republican senator met with an antagonistic foreign power, say Russia, in the midst of high-tension standoff between President Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin?

Such a scenario seems nearly inconceivable. Yet, it’s exactly the situation Sen. Dianne Feinstein created when hosting Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif for dinner a few weeks ago.
Politico reported on the meeting, noting that it was “a bit unusual” for a former chair of the Intelligence Committee and a member of the Senate minority to dine out with the acting foreign minister of an adversary of the United States. And by “unusual,” Politico meant completely unprecedented

This whole spygate thingy started in so many different places, times, with different people it's almost as if it wasn't a start at all. Just a continuation of what was started long ago, and recklessly morphed into into what we see today at the direction of Barack Hussein Obama.

What was interesting in the article on Power is the theory that she discovered that Gen Flynn was talking with Israelis about opposing the pending UN resolution condemning Israeli settlements in the lands forfeited by their neighbors in wars started by the neighbors. Thanks to Obama’s and Power’s pro-Arab sentiments, the resolution passed, absent our usual veto. In any case, it appears, right now, that Power detected the calls by Flynn with Israelis try to prevent passage of that resolution by having them unmasked., and after unmasking them turned them over to DAG Yates for prosecution under the Logan Act. And that may very well have been when Flynn became a target of DoJ harassment.

I was going to say “illegal unmasking”, but then thought that it may have not been strictly “illegal” by then. The same DAG Yates apparently greatly loosened up the rules on unmaskings and dissemination of unmasked disseminated electronic intercepts.

Flynn was a crossroads of so many threads of Obama hostility. His role in Afghanistan, McCabe's sexual harassment case, Israel, and the perjury trap in which we have never been told what "lie" he told Pence.

I think Trump should pardon him and put him back in NSC.

I figured Rice had used Power's credentials to umask Trump officials. Israel? Why would Power get her panties in a wad over Israel just looking after their own interests?

Sources and methods indeed.

Michael K said...

Power's credentials as an Israel hater?

Here you go.

Power has blamed deference to Israel and the “special interests” that support Israel for the U.S. intervention in Iraq. She does so in the face of evidence that Israel had no particular desire that we overthrow Saddam Hussein, and actually viewed that enterprise as a distraction from the more serious threat posed by Iran.

Here, Power’s hatred of Israel spills over into animus against American Jews. The same animus is evident from other comments:

Power has spoken favorably about the notion of “alienating a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import [American Jews] and sacrificing…billions of dollars, not in servicing Israel’s military, but actually investing in the state of Palestine.”

Investing in the Palestinians was a real possibility in 2000 when Bill Clinton tried to resolve the matter with Barak and Arafat.

The result ? Arafat walked away and began the Intifada.
