When "The Late Show" mocks millennials...

... it's pretty weak.

But at least they tried, and points for not getting distracted into Trump hating.

You call that trying? It was pathetic. The question is why did they bother and who was the intended audience. Did anyone really think that Mad Guac would strike Colbert's actual audience as funny or witty enough to qualify as mockery? That would be even more pathetic.

Pretty weak? That crap wouldn't pass muster on the Babylon Bee.

Colbert needs that sweet, sweet intravenous TDS fix really bad, man.

Avocados are people who spend too much time on a hobby.

That's the first thought I had. The list of extravagant food that would be in short supply.
I am again reminded that the poorest in America live a life Kings could not even dream of. Fresh fruits, vegetables are minutes away from your abode. Fresh meat and dairy everywhere. A computer with the answers of the ages in your pocket, more knowledge than was contained in the most expansive library anywhere in the world.
The left is gaslighting the plebes daily, they just don't know it.

The "crisis at the border" is manufactured by the left Alinskying the Government of the United States by snarling up the system for legal immigration with lawfare.

The idea is not just to import "undocumented Democrats," but also simply to break down the Federal Constitution, which they have never liked from 1787 to today.

The lameness is supposed to be part of the appeal. Old school Late Show.

I think they were trying to Trump hate. What an absurdity closing the border would be!!!. No points...

Remember the photoshop picture of the San Francisco cable car with the Confederate flag on the front?

Send the avocados to Venezuela. Not sure where it was reported, but I've heard there is a bit of a food shortage there. (Crude oil reserves, not so much.)

I don't know who took the example of avocados and turned what will be a major disruption to the economy into a joke.

If your first thought was the "extravagant" food that would not be available, you apparently don't bother to notice where your produce comes from or don't ever shop for groceries (maybe elves deliver it to you).

Besides the huge amount of perishable food that goes both ways across the border every day, closing the border would quickly cripple the automobile and many other manufacturing industries.

For Trump to threaten this is reckless. And it wouldn't even solve the problem. People can still cross the border illegally and ask for asylum.

Comedy is hard.

But not as hard as this makes it seem.

This is not a "stop 'em at the border" effort to halt illegal immigration.

It's a hurt Mexico's economy, even if ours suffers too, until Mexico cooperates on the caravans.

The basic thought is we can endure the economic pain better and longer than Mexico.

Same as the Chinese tariff threat and the renegotiate NAFTA effort.

We are the world's largest economy and we've been played for chumps for decades. Trump sees this weapon that laid unused for all these years and raises it up, just enough, to get a more honest deal.

FF said; "For Trump to threaten this is reckless. And it wouldn't even solve the problem."

Problem? What problem? According to the Dems, this is a manufactured crisis .... er .... problem.

But to your point FF, what would solve the problem? You know, the problem that only exists in the minds of Trump and his allies.

Freder Frederson said...

Same as the Chinese tariff threat and the renegotiate NAFTA effort.

The Chinese negotiations are stalled and Trump is never going to get from the Chinese what he says he wants. Like NAFTA, he will wrest a couple of minor concessions and declare victory. The new NAFTA, which hasn't even passed Congress, is not significantly different from the old one, which Trump claimed was "the worst deal ever" (among a bunch of other worst deals ever).

The amazing thing is that you and a bunch of others will believe his bullshit pronouncements.

Just like you still apparently believe we can maintain a "4, 5 or 6" percent GDP growth (hell why not 7 or more).

Get your head out of Trump's ass.

When we say that the problem is manufactured we mean that Trump's policies are what is creating the problem. And rather giving more aid to these countries and work through the State Department to improve conditions in Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala, Trump is doing the exact opposite, and by cutting off aid, will drive even more desperate people to leave and try and come here.

Destroying Mexico's economy will be even more counter productive.

Well, that's an irrelevant argument.

walter said...

Not when you're yapping about GDP, Freder.
But go ahead, vote Dem.
The new crop is especially destined to bury that GDP and drown the country with entitlements, regulations and illegal immigrants.
Good thinking!

Freder Frederson said...

Not when you're yapping about GDP, Freder.

So your argument goes something like this:

"The Dems want to destroy the economy with entitlements, regulations, and illegal immigrants. Oh yeah!? We'll beat you to it by closing the borders, destroying trade and breeding even worse conditions in the countries where most of the illegal migration is coming from.

Take that suckers!"

This is basically the pro-Brexit argument, so I'm not surprised it is so popular (however illogical) among Trump supporters.

Wince said...

Is there a needless cost to reversing the immigration and border crises the Dems precipitated, perpetuate and still deny to this day despite all evidence?

Yes.

Remarkably, their governments have no agency. It's anarchy down there, folks. Just a bunch of hapless brown folks.

This.

The Repub whiners are either too dumb to understand this or don't actually want tight border security.

FF, perishables are a luxury item, Leftist chose avocados because in their bubble, that is an item of need. A proxy instantly meaningful to their tribe. It’s their proxy, not mine

We can trade avocados for ending illegal immigration?

Sounds like a good deal to me. I can always grow my own.

Mexico has never allowed Central Americans to cross their southern border enmass, they've been extremely harsh with illegals, especially Guatemalans, whom they despise and have been at war with for thousands of years. Mexico has very restrictive immigration laws. No one stays without means to support themselves and work permits are expensive and very difficult to obtain, and they really could give a crap about humanitarian aid or asylum for what is perceived to be other tribes.

This massive wave of illegals is designed to hurt us economically and to interfere in our elections. I thought that was a bad thing.

The only way to effect change in Mexico is to financially hit the oligarchs who control the economy.

This is perfect timing to hit them in the wallet as the Mexican growers are preparing tomatoes, peppers and avocados for the Cinco de Mayo shipments. I have little sympathy for American companies who turned their backs on American growers for higher profits. Nor will I weep for Dell, Ford or GM. Tough noogies.

I have no dog in the avocado toast dilemma as I planted my own trees five years ago; but it would be excellent for CA & FL growers who have almost been put out of business by Mexican avocados and will have fruit in the markets in June for the hardcore avo-toast hipsters.

Humperdink said...

FF responded with a straight face: "When we say that the problem is manufactured we mean that Trump's policies are what is creating the problem."

20-30 million illegals in the country and the flow continues. This is a problem Trump created? Alrighty then!

Hipsters most hurt. I worked with a crew member from Portland who brought an avocado to an after gig restaurant meal..in a cute form fitting plastic container. He may flown with a suitcase full of those.

Freder replies: Well that's relative

It is very relative. "Perishable food" has a huge carbon footprint. After harvesting, it is immediately in refrigeration. From processing, to transportation, to retail, to the home. Constant refrigeration....All so the authors of the Green Leap Forward can eat their arugula. Arugula is greens, that means there is almost no nutritional value. An upside down equation for carbon footprint to nutritional value ratio.
Which is fine in a capitalistic free society. The Green Leap Forward has nothing to do with a free society.
