"There's no news. Have you noticed that?... There's no news. How much better a President can you be than to make the news go away?"

"This is something no President has ever done before.... Name another President who's so good, he made the news go away."

I listened to that yesterday, and I'm remembering it this morning and choosing to post it because I'm looking for news to blog and I can't find anything.

ADDED: I am still looking. I was picking over stories and the closest I got were: 1. Somewhere they're teaching cursive writing again, 2. Some people don't watch "Game of Thrones" (and can be called "Never Throners"), 3. Bibi Andersson died, 4. Some people aren't good at riding electric bikes, and 5. Criticizing Ilhan Omar might endanger her.

Okay, I found the CNN story.

The reason I would not blog that story is that it's an isolated violent crime which would be selected for its inflammatory emotional value. Though I do regularly blog stories where animals attack people, I pass on individual acts of violence even when there are titillating points of interest such as an attack that occurs where people generally feel safe (a mall), a little child is hurt, or some people seem to be pushing it because of something racial about it.

There are thousands of crimes in America every day. What makes one of them bloggable? I follow my approach and feel very secure in the quality of my choices.

A few words of remembrance for Bibi Andersson. She starred in some of Bergman's greatest films, including Persona. The cut foot in that movie was, in its way and in its time, as shocking and violent as any act seen in GOT. When asked to explain her enigmatic role, she said that she just memorized the lines and read them, that she didn't know what they meant......Ingmar Bergman was lucky he didn't live to see the #metoo movement. So was Bibi Andersson. She was discarded as a lover but continued on as an actor in his films. I don't know if that would be possible now.....Some of Bergman's films with Ullmann seem pretentious and heavy, almost like a parody of Bergman films, but the ones Bibi made with him are classics. Bibi might end up having the last laugh on Ullmann who usurped her role as Bergman's lover and muse.

It's a fantasy story where the author used actions and events from history as source material. Normal sword and sorcery fantasy often has a child-like or dichotomous perspective on politics, war and human nature (good people and heroes are good and their actions always result in good). The TV series and the books play with that a bit showing that actions, their motivations and their consequences can be more complicated.

Haha. A Life Long Republican should be well versed in the lessons of history. Some of which are collected into aphorisms and even mythic fables to capture the wisdom for future generations.

One such tale involves a boy named Chuck and his imaginary wolf. You've obviously never read it, so:

SPOILER ALERT!

The boy tells fibs every day, and none of his little lies come to pass. So the people around him begin to doubt his credibility and disregard his warnings. Then, one day he tells truth about an Approaching Doom, and realizes everyone remembers all his lies and no one trusts him. Must be a very frustrating lesson for a child to learn.

Adults are different. They should expect consequences for their actions. If you have lied on this blog for 3 years about Trump, if you have posed as Republican and Trump "voter" for 3 years (at great insult to the people you consider rubes) then you have the decency to accept the consequence of telling so many lies for so many years.

To come back and whine that no one believes you is shameless and disgraceful.

About the monster at MOA who threw the boy off the balcony. People are saying 'it's mental illness, nothing to do with race'. But if that 'mental illness' is having an I.Q. below 80, having no empathy for other people, having no impulse control and enjoying violence then yes, it is very much to do with race. And that violence is happening every day all over this country. Google Colin Flaherty for the videos showing this violence.

Correction: There is no juicy anti-Trump news, so yea, no news worth reporting. They may have just worn themselves out on it.

Crime getting out of control in Chicago and exploding in areas considered safe.

I wonder how many realize that property crime in San Francisco is three times the rate in Chicago ? Highest in the nation.

Althouse do you suppose that the Trump Administration will create some news on Wednesday night? Something large enough to distract from the Thursday morning public release of the Report of the Office of Special Counsel?

You almost never got gang crime down town. specially on the mag-mile. Now it's common place.

I think all of the TDS-deranged article writers have checked themselves in for treatment (or are still in bed on an alcohol-fueled bender), so less BS has been put out on the internet. So much winning!

I grew up in a house with no TV and could happily live the rest of my life without it. I see maybe 3 hours a month, mostly news and sports. Have never seen a single episode of Game of Thrones, Seinfeld, Sopranos, the zombie show, the motorcycle gang show, the desert island castaway show, the lesbians in jail show, the meth lab show, or the unhappy single sluts in New York show. Watched Modern Family a couple of times cause wifey likes it. Saw a few episodes of Cheers and Simpsons and Friends decades ago. It is mostly a gigantic waste of time and the world would be a better place had it never been invented. I remember South Africa refused to allow it until the late 70’s and they would be better off if they had continued that policy.

Michael K. - Do you follow Second City Cop or Crime in Wrigleyville/Boystown (cwbchicago.com) websites? The thugs now commute to downtown and the north side to gain more in their crime activities, using stolen cars and the ever-popular Red Line.

The accused of the MOA tragedy is known to police and has had issues as far as 3 years back with throwing things from that level in the mall before. Sounds like mental health issues...again. I don't think confining people like him is a solution. I doubt he thinks he has a problem. Tough case.

IANAL, but I believe the standard for deciding whether to lock up a crazy (not sure if this is the term used in the DSM) individual individual is: does he present a danger to himself or to others.

I think that question is answered.

Trump hasn’t launched any stupid wars.

He’s doing a much better job than Obama and W.

Very important point, though I would say that alone -- his not starting any new wars -- makes him the best President since Ronald Reagan.

Guys, thanks for your concern and advice, but no worries ... the hydrocodone is a one-off. Hip surgery was needed and even now I'm much the better for it: the pain is diminishing every day, and it's a good pain, i.e. the pain of healing not the pain of the arthritis the procedure has already eliminated. I'm not taking hydrocodone for it APART from this morning ... I had a rare bad night of it last night because it SNOWED here in Chicago and I worked out maybe a little too strenuously yesterday.

It was sort of a novelty: I don't drink or smoke or do drugs, and the hydrocodone smacked me silly (unexpectedly) when I posted those comments. Ha ha it seemed funny at the time (2 hours ago). Not so much now. :)

The arthritis pain isn't chronic. Thanks to the installation of my new cyborg-Terminator hip it's mostly gone along with any desire to do take anything for it. Back to being my sober boring self.

In Trump's Colluding Russia, Game of Thrones watches you!

Here's a good example of how artful Game of Thrones can be.

Strangely dressed people skulking and mumbling in dingy rooms.

Been there, done that.

8:30 of skulkin' 'n' mumblin' and 0:22 of mediocre special effects. No midgets or dragons.

Game of Thrones... the books were good. The first several seasons of the series were quite well done. Then they ran out of story, and it really, really showed last season. It's like Martin gave them the outline of things that had to happen, without the little moments that made GoT great, and they filmed that outline.

But I'd still watch to the end -- if there were some way to do it other than subscribing to HBO for $15/month. Blah.

No news? That would be news if it were true. A quick trip to Memeorandum shows such stories as the Washington Times lead that "Pete Buttigieg doesn't get to make up his own Christianity" - based on Buttigieg's (Boot-edge-edge) homosexuality.

But Trump and Mike Pence have a strange view of religion as well, especially since lying is routinely permitted. If you go back to 11/18/16, you can find a letter written by Congressman Elijah Cummings to VP-elect Pence, advising him that Mike Flynn had had contact with the Russian Ambassador - but when the Flynn matter got hot weeks later Pence announced that the General had not talked to the Russians and later said that he learned of the contact from the media. Pence has not backed down, even now.

Gaddie, does anything register in that brain you allege you have ? Flynn's job was to talk to foreigners including the Russian ambassador.

Sorry to pull an Inga on you but this is just nonsense.

Curious george and I have had hip surgery. It changed my life. (I thought I'd be in a wheel chair.) Good luck and do all of the phys therapy. It's important.

There's another reason why CNN filled their homepage with K-pop pablum

I was going to guess kick-backs from the South Korean government. Hallyu is, to an extent, a state sponsored way to market Korean culture to other countries.
