The government of Sri Lanka blames an Islamist group — National Thowheeth Jama’ath.

The NYT reports.
Sri Lanka’s security forces were warned at least 10 days before the bombings that the militant group was planning attacks against churches, but apparently took no action against it, indicating a catastrophic intelligence failure....

The group, National Thowheeth Jama’ath, had a reputation for vandalizing Buddhist statues but little history of carrying out terrorist attacks.

Rajitha Senaratne, the health minister, called the group “a local organization” and said the suicide bombers appeared to be Sri Lankan citizens. “All are locals,” he said at a news conference on Monday. But, he added, “there was an international network without which these attacks could not have succeeded.”...

No one has publicly claimed responsibility for the bombings.

Sri Lanka does not have much history of Islamist terrorism. The country is predominantly Buddhist, with significant Hindu, Muslim and Christian minorities.

Looks more like a "don't give a damn" failure. They had the intelligence, just didn't do anything to protect their citizens.

The story doesn't say how often it gets warnings. It might be daily. There are always two things traded off - how often you're willing to miss a valid warning and how often you're willing to act on an invalid warning.

They're both costs that may be better spend elsewhere, when they get out of line.

The thing to look for is what Muslim groups deplore the attacks and what don't. Calculate the relative populations.

I'm sort of surprised that nobody has claimed direct credit. Usually ISIS is quick to claim credit even for stuff that they had nothing to do with. Does this indicate a change in the strategy for the global jihad? That no group will claim direct credit anymore? I can't imagine ISIS recruitment has been so great lately. You'd think they'd want some hyper violent PR.

If you look at a distribution map of Islam in Asia, it goes along the southern tips of the land masses and then the islands south of the land mass. Thailand has a problem in the south resort areas that keeps cropping up. The Philippines and Indonesia follow the same pattern. Southern areas are Muslim and the northern are Buddhist or Hindu, or Christian. Pakistan is sort of an anomaly as a result of the Indian civil war in 1948. Plus, of course, the Muslims invaded India from the north.

In his book, "Accidental Guerrilla, Kilcullen describes serving in East Timor and seeing angry young men who spoke Arabic arriving and radicalizing the residents who had never been very devout Muslims. The agitators came from the Middle East and somebody must have been paying them or at least funding them,

Our leftists and their allies have the perfect solution to this problem of Islamic terrorists abroad.... Invite all of them here on the taxpayer dime! Give them lots of welfare and freedom and immunity from everything! And when the inevitable bombings and massacres occur here, well... isn't that kind of the point from the left?

Inga and her pals will be far, far more worried about someone saying something bad about Islam than the 200 dead Christians and their families... what's more important to leftists than the tender feelings of Muslims as they commit atrocity after atrocity? Besides, 200 dead Christians murdered by Islamists is known as "the average week" in Nigeria. And Michelle Obama showed how much the left cares about that... a "hashtag" campaign is the most the left can do. Besides give pallets of cash to Islamist terrorists and cheer them on, of course.

No, this indicates that Sri Lanka’s governing class doesn't care about protecting Christian from Muslim terrorists.

Which makes them similar to the governing classes of most Western nations. Heck, Hillary and Barack can't even say "it's horrible that Islamist terrorists murdered Christians"! So you know they wouldn't care about stopping such an attack.

"Sri Lanka’s security forces were warned at least 10 days before the bombings that the militant group was planning attacks against churches, but apparently took no action against it".

Well, what action were they supposed to take? If you allow Muzzies into your country, and you don't intern them in concentration camps, they are going to blow people up. It's what they do. It's their fucking religion already. They aren't trying to be coy about it.

It's okay to endlessly speculate on how beliefs in white nationalism or, for that matter, wearing MAGA hats are signs of moral decay and that such immorality lead to acts of violence. Similar speculation about Muslims is verboten. This has led to white nationalism and the wearing of MAGA hats........ I don't object to criticism of white racism but criticism of Islam is not white racism............You would think that there would be many voices in the Muslim community wondering WTF. It's not just the terrorism. Why do Muslim countries routinely produce such leaders as Saddam, Assad, Qaddafi? That's in countries where they are the majority. Where they are in the minority, they produce terrorists. There's something out of joint about Islam.

Temujin said...

We don't yet know for sure that it's Islamists who perpetrated this horrible crime. But I'll say this as if it was, because it usually is and has been for 40+ years now (just in our modern times).

It's bad when you cannot name the murderers for fear of retribution by more murderers. It's even worse when you cannot name the victims (Christians, Catholics) because you fear retribution by the murderers and seek to appease them.

Gutless leadership, media, and politicians giving ground to a murder cult that exists all over the world. Call it what you like, but it's a murder cult. And if I were part of this cult, I'd leave it. Find God somewhere else. He/She/It exists everywhere....or nowhere, depending on your point of view. But to think He/She/It exists only in your cult and that those outside of your cult need to die, well...that should just not be accepted by anyone on earth. Not by anyone on earth.

If you want to live, if you love life, if you have an ounce of compassion for others, you call the murderers for what they are: point them out and cull them from civil society. To acquiesce to the whines of some such as Ihlan or Rashida is to stand in line and submit, jumping up and down to make it so you are sure you'll be seen as a good submitter. If Ihlan and Rashida don't speak up today, about this, they have no moral grounds to speak up about anything to me. And, I already know they won't except to accuse others such as me, as being anti-Islam. I'm anti murder cult.

Name another religion that can plan and carry out a coordinated simultaneous suicide mission attack in 7, or more, separate locations.

However, it does not take that many out of the total population to do it. Viz. Obama bin Laden's 9/11 attack on the US.

Also that in Ireland, the "X" IRA groups of the moment would get financing and arms by working with Algerian rebels or Columbian cocaine traffickers to make up for lack of popular support in Ireland.

The death toll is now over 300 and bombs and booby traps are still going off./

The terror attack crisis targeting Christians in Sri Lanka appears to be ongoing, keeping the country in fear as more bombs are located and police continue to hunt down the plotters. The country remains in a state of national emergency, with major social media platforms cut as authorities say they are clamping down on "disinformation".

On Monday police attempted to defuse another bomb found in a van parked near St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Colombo — one of three Christian sites targeted during Easter services on Sunday — after a series of eight bombings took 290 lives and injured many hundreds more. Dramatic video shows what local media said was a controlled explosion by police, but which may have been a failed attempt to defuse the bomb.

A bomb tech can be seen sprinting from the vehicle just as it explodes in the Reuters footage below:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umar_Farouk_Abdulmutallab

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is the youngest of 16 children[7] of Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, a wealthy Nigerian banker and businessman, and is a son of his second wife, Aisha.[8] The father was described by The Times in 2009 as being "one of the richest men in Africa."[9] He is a former Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria and former Nigerian Federal Commissioner for Economic Development.[7][9][10]

The family comes from Funtua in Katsina State. Abdulmutallab was raised initially in an affluent neighbourhood of Kaduna,[11][12] in Nigeria's north.[7] He attended the Essence International School in Kaduna as a young child. He also took classes at the Rabiatu Mutallib Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies, which had been named for his grandfather, at that time.[13] He also attended The British School of Lomé, Togo.[14] Considered a gifted student, he also enjoyed playing PlayStation and basketball.[11] Abdulmutallab studied at University College London in September 2005, where he studied Engineering and Business Finance,[15] and earned a degree in mechanical engineering in June 2008.[16]

According to one of his cousins, as a teenager, Abdulmutallab became very pious as a Muslim, and detached himself from others his age. He condemned his father's banking profession as "immoral" and "un-Islamic" for charging interest, urging him to quit. "That kind of detachment from others and singular focus on Islam was a common thread in Mr. Abdulmutallab's life, according to family members, friends and classmates."[11]

From "Sri Lanka is all too familiar with suicide bombing":

...it was in the 1980s in Lebanon that suicide bombing as a phenomenon really began. In 1983, a suicide bomber drove a truck into a U.S. Marine base in Lebanon, killing 241 U.S. military personnel.

As it happened, several Tamil Tigers were training in Hezbollah terrorist camps in Lebanon at the time. Four years later, in July 1987, the Lebanon attack was essentially copied. A single driver, known as Captain Miller, drove a truck with explosives into a military base in Sri Lanka. The base had originally been a school near Nelliady, in Tamil territory, and the Tamil Tigers were determined to retake it from Sri Lankan forces. Between 20 and 40 people are thought to have been killed in the attack, which ultimately established Captain Miller as a Tamil hero.

“The Tamil Tigers were the world’s leader in suicide terrorism from 1980 to 2003, carrying out more attacks than any Islamic group,” Robert Pape, a political science professor at the University of Chicago, told The Washington Post. In 2009, Pape said he counted 273 people he could verify killed themselves carrying out suicide attacks for the Tamil Tigers, about 130 more than Hamas had during “the life of their suicide campaigns.” ...

The Tamil Tigers also pioneered the coordinated use of multiple suicide bombers at a single target. “They had a group of the Black Tigers that were especially proficient at these multiple coordinated attacks,” said Pape, author of “Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism.”
