Why did The Southern Poverty Law Center fire Morris Dees?

The Alabama Political Reporter has this:
[I]nternal emails obtained by APR related to Dees’ firing appear to show that the problems — which employees said spanned from sexual harassment to gender- and race-based discrimination — were more systemic and widespread, creating an atmosphere over several years in which female and minority employees felt mistreated. The employees also said that they felt their complaints were either not heard or resulted in retaliation from senior staff.

The spark that ignited the near-mutiny at SPLC appears to have been the resignation of senior attorney Meredith Horton, and an email she sent to senior leadership. That email noted the hardships women and employees of color faced at SPLC....

An email signed by numerous SPLC employees... alleged multiple instances of sexual harassment by Dees, and it alleges that reports of his conduct were ignored or covered up by SPLC leadership. Instead, while acknowledging that his firing was a good thing, the SPLC employees are more concerned with the overall atmosphere, which they specifically say goes well beyond Dees....
Dees was asked about the allegations and said, "I don’t know who you’re talking to or talking about, but that is not right."

Unexpectly! I don't know that everyone who runs a scam is morally debased, but it is no surprise if they are.

SPLC has an honorable and noble pedigree. Dees was a founder.

They used to file civil actions against Klansmen who actually committed tortious acts against people. SPLC and Dees helped drive the Klan into bankruptcy due to several multi-million judgments.

But, over time, SPLC lost its way. They became an ordinary, whining arm of the Democrat Party focusing on fighting 'trivial comments" as a proxy for fighting actual lynchers. Just another PC mob, run amok.

Dees was out of step with this PC transition -- that's why he had to go.

Since it is blacks and women are doing the complaining the SPLC should be on its own hate list.

SPLC is much worse than a whiner. They are actively and maliciously trying to destroy individuals and institutions that hold traditional views of certain human relations issues. Think that marriage is between a man and a woman? You’re a hater. Think people should go slowly on transgender treatment? You’re a hater. Think that boys who think they are girls should not compete against girls in athletic contests? You’re a hater. And SPLC is going to try to put you out of business.

They aren’t banal. They are evil.

It cannot be said enough: Everything the left touches it ruins, and the SPLC, the ACLU, are just two that we really needed left alone to do good work. Now they are part of the problem.

"...female and minority employees felt mistreated." And it's Friday. Both equally novel and surprising.

SPLC is gearing up for the 2020 push and Dees, dinosaur that he is though stalwart, probably even he was not ready for the level of crazy necessary.

Books getting tossed out the window in terms of what they plan to do with their half a billion dollar War chest. So they tossed Dees.

Why are they in business anyway aside from the donations? Or being tax exempt for political purposes............

Time for some sunshine as they say.

Yeah, the NAZIs did pretty good work when they first started out, too.

Dees seems to be going with the "I'm an 82 year old man... how can I be expected to remember things" defense.

Two shining examples of having to find a new mission after you've won. These groups are like the body's immune system attacking healthy tissue when it runs out of things to do.

Am I surprised? No. I am not.

Is anyone? Anyone not stupid? Turned stupid through partisanship, I mean.

It is astonishing to me that the SPLC still exists and further that major media sources pretend not to notice what they are up to.

Raise your hand if you are surprised that SPLC is a fraud. For a long time it has been clear that for SPLC women and people of color are mere pawns, useful symbols, to be exploited and used to advance a partisan political agenda having little to do with equality and civil rights.

Dees is so full of shit. He makes about $500K a year in salary, & has a giant mansion on many acres of land outside of Montgomery that has a fucking waterfall between the first & second floors.

Dees has taken the SPLC, whipped up this frenzy among naive liberals that the Right-wing crazies were coming to pop a cap in their asses, taken their money, and done right well for a left-wing Jewish boy trapped in Fuckall, Alabama.

Dees is a grifter, and he's been one for over 30 years. The SPLC is the epitome of the old saying that what starts as a mass movement then becomes a business & ends up as a racket.

Just because the guy is a leftist shyster doesn't mean he did anything wrong.

SPLC went the way of Greenpeace, I guess. The former's cleaning house, anyway.

Actually, his family is Baptist, not Jewish. That he is mistaken for Jewish hasn't hurt his fundraising, though.

"what starts as a mass movement then becomes a business & ends up as a racket"

Except that now "mass movements" short-circuit the process by starting as rackets.

Climate change, anyone? BLM? Diversity -- well, that didn't even pretend to be a movement. And so on, and so forth.

So what if Dees is gone. SPLC is still doing their job, helping the Left and the Democrats smear Republicans/Conservatives.

That's all that matters.

rcocean said...

They "never lost their way". They were a left-wing operation from the start. The idea that they were just a noble bunch of Nazi-hunters who went astray is laughable.

Rabel said...

Before I judge the man it's only fair that we know the whole story.

Bring on the hidden microphone recordings and the decades old accusations.

SPLC is still doing their job, helping the Left and the Democrats smear Republicans/Conservatives.

That's the problem. The conflation of logical domains. The semantic games. The close association between useful concepts (e.g. nationalism/community, religion/moral philosophy, sex and gender, evolution - from conception) and negative, even deplorable (hat tip: Clinton), and burdensome (hat tip: Obama ) outcomes. The progress and ignorance of other concepts: diversity (i.e. color judgments), feminism (i.e. female chauvinism), technical terms of art (fetus to normalize age discrimination, summary judgments, cruel and unusual punishment, Mengele experiments), political congruence including "=", trials by press and warlock trials, and so much more. All of it engenders a hostile environment, which precludes productive conversation, and places people at a heightened state of anxiety. Progressivism, liberalism, libertarianism, and conservativism, the brands and people.

Dees will always have his Mail Order Scam Hall of Fame title to console him, along with his personal fortune accumulated as the prime beneficiary of the charity known as SPLC. SPLC is and always has been, a fraudulent nonprofit, albeit a useful one to the SJW Left and MSM.

In an internal memo made after a 1985 meeting about proposed affirmative action in the office, Dees called racism accusation against himself “nonsense,” the Advertiser reported. Both Dees and the SPLC denied claims of racism discussed in the article.

This suggests the problem is that blacks and women are pissed they don't get enough favoritism.

Morris Dees is a one-man hate group and should be labeled as such.

The SPLC is an ideological witch hunt speech crime organization. they should be sued in every direction and at the very minimum, their tax exempt status should be yanked.

The SPLC is a money making scam. 10 years or so ago I had been reading reports and seeing pics of their Form 990 showing hundreds of millions in the bank. A lot of it in the Cayman Islands.

I can't find old 990's at the moment but there is this about the 2016 return:

Funding

In its 2016 tax documents, SLPC reported $136,373,624 in revenue, $59,784,321 in expenses. It also reported net assets of $449,834,593 and endowments totaling $432,723,955.[19]

https://www.influencewatch.org/non-profit/southern-poverty-law-center-splc/

I'd like to know how they got away with this? Non-profits are required, by law, to give away most of their revenue or spend it on programs. SPLC, with a half billion dollars in net assets is clearly not doing so.

Why no IRS investigation or fines?

The only place you used to see reporting on their massive treasure chest was in some conspiracy minded fringe sites. Nobody mainstream would take them on.

Good to see someone is now.

I wonder if we have moved into a new phase? Up to now President Trump has played rope-a-dope.

Is it just coincidence we see the swamp taking some hits in the past few weeks? SPLC and Academia are two big ones just now but there have been some other things too.

Yeah. Progressives loooved them some Hitler and Mussolini in the 20s and 30s. These two guys know how to run a country. None of these mobs voting in people like Donald Trump.

These guys got things accomplished!

FDR and his New Dealers modeled themselves on them.

Sjw supporter scandals in the media:

- college admissions
- Weinstein / casting couch
- Epstein
- splc
- Hollywood pedo scandals
- Catholic Church pedo scandals
- Matt- today show
- Trudeau
- Virginia blackface

Or could just be social media makes it hard to keep scandals hidden now. Or the growth of conservative media. Or the destruction of the msms reputation.
