Another week goes by where two women of color continue to be denied their right to be heard by giving public testimony and the people of Virginia are denied their right to know if their lieutenant governor, Justin Fairfax, is a rapist or not -- and every statement and action he has taken seems to suggest a consciousness of guilt.

Another week goes by where too many people in Virginia -- mostly leftists, progressives and Dems, but not all -- seem not to care if their lieutenant governor is a rapist or not. Another week goes by where these people think that other things -- anything -- takes priority over women being brutally abused and that such vicious dehumanization of women should be met with jokes and snark and "what about" deflection.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali in one of her books tells of how she was told while growing up in Somalia, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia all about how terrible and fearsome the Jews were, and she fully believed it all until she was introduced to an actual Jew in the Netherlands and told herself, "This is a Jew? So, what else have they been lying to me about?"

Ilhan Omar, Rashida Thlaib, etc., are representatives from communities that adamantly refuse to ask themselves that question.

But the most interesting thing the release of the interview has shown is how secrecy and redactions have allowed Democrats, particularly dishonorable douches like Adam Schiff, to lie about what witnesses actually said. For instance, Schiff claims Steele was never paid. Ohr says he was. Schiff knew when he approved that memo this was a lie. But this shows the extent to which Schiff was willing to go to try to cover up the actions of Bruce Ohr because he knew that those actions indicated a long-term effort to damage Trump’s election chances.

It is impossible for Schiff to have made these errors in innocence. They are a deliberate attempt to discredit the memo written by Devin Nunes

Interesting movie I'm watching from TCM "on demand" -- The Tenderfoot (1932). The story's rather lame, but there's a bit player by the name of Ginger Rogers, only 21 years old. In a minor role here, she hit it big the following year.

So, anyway, we get a weekly free advertiser type newspaper. Every Friday I retrieve it from the driveway and put it in the recycle. Couple of weeks before Christmas, I picked it up and a Christmas card and a self addressed stamped envelope fell out.

Because I used to be a paperboy I put five bucks and a Christmas card in the self addressed envelope and sent it to the guy, who actually lives in another city.

Now, he gives me two of those papers every Friday.

Sometimes, it pays to be nice.

Black college lacrosse player, 21, is arrested for spraying N-word and swastika graffiti targeting HIMSELF and other minority students in two incidents that terrorized the campus

Fynn Ajani Arthur, 21, was charged with two counts of malicious destruction of property on Thursday night in Baltimore County, Maryland
He allegedly scrawled swastikas, the letters 'KKK' and names of specific individuals - including himself- in a Goucher College dorm twice last month
Goucher officials condemned Arthur's actions and banned him from campus
Minority students say the graffiti incidents are only a symptom of a larger race problem on the campus in Towson

Smollett's lawyer Geragos said tonight on CNN that his client still maintains he was attacked that frigid night by two men out of the blue and that Smollett was surprised as everyone else when he later found out the criminals were two men he knew from his show. But they are the ones who are guilty as can be, although Jussie has decided not to prosecute them out of kindness.

The wife asked me how he plans to convince a jury of that story . Simple, I said. All Geragos needs is one friendly Chicago juror to get a mistrial.

Just a general observation, not having anything to do with current events, just lessons on living life on lifes terms, not mine.

When I was a young man, I did normal young man stuff. Socialized, dropped in on on waterholes, meeting young women, hanging with the fellows, shooting pool, have a few brews. The usual fun stuff. One lounge I would stop at, I would get a cool reception from the local bulls. I would end up with a tire low on air, or maybe a fuel tank almost empty. I came to the conclusion, the locals really didn't like me.

I stopped going there.

Been decades since I have thought about that place, or the people.

I guess I was better without them...and they without me.

(What I did not do is whine to the barkeep about the meanies picking on me)

No denial of accusation from headquarters yet. Of course, with today's developments a denial must be viewed with appropriate suspicion.

Alan Dershowitz has been accused of visiting Orgy Island. He denies it, and he certainly doesn't look the type. On the other hand, Stephen Hawking, God bless him, apparently went there, and he definitely doesn't look the type......I don't know the truth of the case, but the accusation will stick in people's minds longer than his denial. There really should be a way for a public figure to sue for damages on false or unsubstantiated claims. Perhaps Dershowitz with his legal expertise can figure out a way to do it.

When I got on to stay, the horse completely ignored me and my commands and sort of moseyed up to the other horses to see what they were doing. Then he galloped because they were doing that. Back at the corral I fell off the same side I got on. From then on without further comment I chucked riding. I did not ride under my own name and I did not ride under other names and I did not ever fall off the other side of the horse I did not ride in on.

I have yet to see this discussed here or anywhere. The Mueller report will contain no charges supporting impeachment of the president. Maybe it's just so obvious no one bothers to bring it up, but it is clear to me what is the Democrats' motive in demanding that the Mueller report be made public. They are counting on the fact that large swaths of it can never be made public, sources and methods, etc. Then there is the matter of prosecutorial ethics which demand that, unless the subjects of investigation are actually indicted, their names should not be released. When massive redactions are made, as they must be made, Democrats will act shocked and outraged and accuse the Trump DOJ of hiding damning evidence. Remember, you read it here first.

Birkel said...

Agree Tyrone Slothrop.

Just got back from "Captain Marvel". Not one of the better Marvel movies, but by no means horrible. Whatever Larson was making an ass of herself on social media about didn't make it into the movie.

I wondered how they were going to handle the Monica Rambeau version of the character, and they did touch a bit on that.

I think it may be time to do away with origin movies though. Just introduce the character in-media-res and be done with it.

I remember reading a book once that I thought was great. There was a complex plot in motion which was never baby-talk explained, but you could figure out the essentials and who all the characters were gradually became clear without huge lumps of info-dump. I later found out I had started a series with book two. Maybe all series should start with book two.

narciso said...

Well I think the film retcons the series in unsatisfying ways, occurring before iron man introduced the mcu but after Peter quill was nabbed by the reavers.

narciso said...

One series you cant go cold into is Stephenson's baroque cycle, a prequel to crypgonomicon

Churchy LaFemme: said...

Eh. I didn't mind the retcon much, but it does beg the question about what Captain Marvel has actually been doing since apparently she still hasn't settled Ronan the Accuser's hash.

Darrell said...

The Patriarchy is the villain in the movie. If you missed that, you are the fanboi Disney was looking for. Read the Wiki entry on Captain Marvel. The story is so convoluted and retconned over the years, that it doesn't even make any sense. The character should have been left in the filing cabinet.

Let Nebula get the Thanos killshot in the next movie.

Just in case there is any doubt about where Greenpeace is coming from:

"Golden Rice which has been genetically engineered to have higher levels of the vitamin A precursor beta-carotene is finally about be to approved for planting by poor farmers in Bangladesh. This a big step toward improving the health of some of the poorest people on the planet. Vitamin A deficiency causes blindness in between 250,000 and 500,000 children each year, half of whom die within 12 months, according to the World Health Organization. A study by German researchers in 2014 estimated that activist opposition to the deployment of Golden Rice has resulted in the loss of 1.4 million life-years in just India alone.

Environmentalist ideologues have fought fiercely for two decades to prevent this crop from being offered to poor farmers in developing countries. Among other things, they hired thugs to rip up test fields of the grain at the International Rice Research Institute in the Phillippines."

Did you threaten to fight the whole bar and then complain when people accepted?

No. No, even as a young man I had little concern about how others that I did not know or have a close relationship thought about me. While I treated all with respect I show all humanity, casual meetings were just that. How others choose to treat me has never been a metric I use to judge my own worth. Even as a young man I found my life much more fulfilling by associating with persons that respected me. So if some did show signs of not liking me, I only spent time in the same place as them if situations required it. I never wasted time on persons that never exhibited any positive redeeming values. I left them to stew in their own toxic soup. Once they don't like me, why would I waste time trying to convince others that have made up their mind? Its a big world, lots of other places I can be.
Leaving is a very satisfying response to people that signal they don't like me.
Just leave.

Here's an odd thing: someone who claims to have voted for every republican since Ford but labels republican political victories a "disaster", whose every comment reflects that sentiment, lauds "conservatives"/"republicans" who publicly call on voters to vote democrat, cheers democrat victories, denigrates republican victories, reflexively defends far left democrats, viciously attacks any republicans who effectively push back on democrats, etc etc etc etc.

Instead of leaving, why not simply stop being an ass? Then people would stop disliking you.

Mark said...

Someone who voted for Ford would put them at 60-61 years old at the youngest. I really have not been paying all that much attention -- the whole thing does not interest me all that much and I'm not invested in it -- but in passing I seem to remember various indications that our Ford supporter was much younger than that. His conduct and temperament are certainly much much much younger.

Maybe I'm mistaken, though.
