A nap will lower your blood pressure as much as a low dose of blood pressure medication.

A new study says, per BBC.

I have been a regular napper for as long as I can recall. Every day in college, I would take a deep, hour-long nap each afternoon. My naps are shorter and lighter now, but I still need them. I've always had very good blood pressure.

When I got my first office summer jobs in college I wondered if I would be able to work in an office, since I needed to nap so badly. Somehow in my twenties I grew out of the need. But in my thirties I started to work within walking distance of home and could go home at lunchtime for naps.

Do you remember Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., who was Nixon's VP candidate in 1960? He napped every afternoon, and was criticized for it in the campaign. I think it was regarded as unmanly.

Winston Churchill was an afternoon napper, which apparently made it possible for him to drink, politic, and party all night.

If Trump would nap instead of tweet, he'd be 15 points higher in the polls.

Do you think there is something negative about taking naps, or embarrassing about admitting to them? If so, that's your problem.

That's all well and good when you are asleep. But eventually you have to wake up and then the BP shoots up again.

Taking a nap has always been a part of my rigorous fitness program. Sometimes when I sleep too late in the mornings, I have trouble nodding off in the afternoon. Makes no difference. Discipline is essential. I lay down anyway. It's quite pleasant to lay there and listen to Mozart, and sometimes you manage to drift off even hough you're not sleepy. Not everyone has this amount of self discipline, but, if you work at it, it can be attained......Afternoon naps are undoubtedly what keeps that human dynamo RBG fully charged.

I was 50 before I learned to nap. Even 15 minutes can extend my productive day for hours. Sleep is weird. I’ve come to think of it less as a remedy for fatigue and more about the cleansing of some sort of toxin.

I'd like to offer a useful suggestion to RBG. She should make use of those noise cancelling headphones. All those droning lawyers probably interfere with her naps when court is in session.

Hot baths do the same thing.

Simply sitting and resting also appears to confer all the same benefits of meditation. But don't tell that to a TM practitioner. Anyone remember John Hagelin and the Natural Law Party's TM platform?
