"Boys have teased me about my curves since 5th grade. My mom said 'hold your head high and don’t let it bother you.' That @Fox2News story was way out of line. I’m tough, I can take it."

Tweeted Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan, who wore a dress to her State of the State Address that was just way too tight. As many of the commenters (at The Daily Mail) observe, you can see the outline of her bellybutton. It's not really fair to accuse everyone of body shaming when you wear something that fits so poorly. People talk about Trump's tie being too long....

The "does this make me look fat?" trope returns. Not saying she is fat. But yes, that dress makes her LOOK fat. It's not her looks that are called into question, it's her judgement.

this seems like a job for a Corset; or, AT LEAST a girdle?

My guess is that this is a sore subject for the Governor. Otherwise, I can't believe her staff let her get away with a dress like that. It just doesn't fit her right!

Maybe now she'll take her staff's advice.

"I'm tough, I can take it."

What a bald-faced lie. If she could take it she'd react like Trump reacts to the too-long tie jibes. With blissful ignorance.

In 5th grade, most boys are still worried about contracting cooties. Then they discover feminine female curves and life.

She's 47, why is this news? This seems to be a more a of a don't-forget-me, look-at-me moment, or another Covington Affair to stoke adversity, or distract us, from what?

I saw a few pictures of the Gov in the dress. It didn't seem too tight so much as a bit sheer and suffering from static cling.

Kristen Sinema dresses like a pole dancer to the senate floor (and in real life too apparently). Her staff's recommendation that she do something to 'keep those senators asses in their seats' went way over her head, but she's blonde, this will take time.

Sinema's wardrobe, like Whitmers, is definitely not "off-the-rack."

More, please.

Seriously, I'll wager that it's not men who are complaining about Whitmer's and Sinema's wardrobe. Rather, it's other women.

If people can mock Trump’s suits with impunity they can mock her dress. Equality and all that.

Full disclosure though I have worn tops that show my belly button that way. But I’ll throw a vest or jacket on top of it.

My take is that her gubernatorial hooters aren't bad, but she's gotta slim that tummy a bit to get the appropriate juxtaposition.

Browndog said...

I can't speak for now, but when Sinema was campaigning fashion was top notch, in my opinion.

I get she's a Code Pink nutjob, but she knows how to dress; what she wore on the Senate floor that day not withstanding.

Speaking of K Sinema (who I've sat next to on two occasions - she would have no idea who I am) I used to think she must have slimmed up over the last few years given the athletic achievements I'd read about. But that's not correct. She's just one of those people (I know men like this) who are in fantastic physical shape, but will always look a little meaty. KS also voted for Barr so I'm still hopeful for her. The MI governor looks awful.

As I live in AZ, I hope so too. While voting for McSally, I never liked her, especially as she was a never-Trumper, at least early on. Simena ran as a moderate so maybe she will use common sense rather than knee jerk Lefty bias in her decision making.

Kind of telling that anyone who says anything critical of a Democrat politician is called a "troll" by the media; she is a Democrat, although you won't find that in the article.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

She can be curvy and should not be criticized. However, she should be wearing clothing that FITS her body. It is at least one size too small.

That is not a dress that fits. Sausages come to mind.

While the dress is probably nice on the hanger, on the model and expensive to boot.....it looks like trailer trash when it is too tight. Leaving nothing to to the imagination. Where is the next biker beer bar???

Sorry lady. Your curves are what they are and nothing to be ashamed of..... but really!! no one wants to see all the folds, flab, gut or your belly button.

A badly dressed woman walks into a bar and the bartender says, "What'll you have, ma'am?"

The badly dressed woman answers "I’m hoping people will focus on our ideas and accomplishments instead of our appearance."

And the bartender responds "'Our?' You and what dick army?"

And then, without being prompted, Republican House Speaker Lee Chatfield of Levering blasted the joke, tweeting that it was "ridiculous" and "never should have told any 'walks into a bar jokes'. Her drink order was what mattered!"

This makes me think of a joke:

A guy forgets his wife's birthday, and she is pissed.

"How could you forget? I want to see something that goes from zero to 200 in 6 seconds in the driveway tomorrow morning, or else!"

Next morning, the wife looks out on the driveway and sees a gift-wrapped package.

When she opens it she finds a bathroom scale.

Her husband has been missing for several days.

I wonder if her problem is boys or girls.

In fifth grade, boys are also known to pull a girl's ponytail and chase her around the playground. It's an intensive age with unsure footing, awkward expression, and the very real risk of contracting cooties.

MayBee said...

I don't like what she did here. She sexualized the criticism of her. I mean, made it seem like a sexual thing, like people are just too uncomfortable with her hotness. AOC has done something similar a couple of times, calling a picture of her from the back a picture of her "backside". Women in power shouldn't play this game.

On a side note, why did women all the sudden decide they have to wear body con dresses all the time? Even on the news, it's usually skin tight dresses. At least Whitmer didn't think we needed to stare at her armpits like most news women do these days.

She has nice tits, and a pretty good figure. But my wife always told me that if there are stretch marks in the fabric (those horizontal folds between her breasts) that means the fabric is too tight.

The same dress a size or two bigger would have looked better.

synchronistic timing for me here.

i just queried Google for Melania Trump images of the last week. it is an occasional act of defiance I do to correct for the conspiracy to deny our First Lady's loveliness to the nation on the nation's checkstand magazine racks.

and where do I find ANY thoughtful collections? ONLY from foreign press, like the Daily Mail. so weird & creepy that i have to go to British press to find them.

and now I see their their thirst for covering American political fashion is a broad field of endeavor, good for them! they deserve to thrive for slaking our thirst.

about this new governor, May she run her administration with the kind of depth and savvy the state needs. If she is absent-minded about clothes but wildly effective, it will be such a delightful surprise.

we can all use delightful surprises.

I wouldn't say the dress makes her look fat. She looks fine, but I don't think that dress is meant to be worn like a neoprene dive suit. Degauss the dress, get a slightly larger size, or just pick another dress.

She doesn't look bad at all for 47. The dress, however, is totally and completely wrong for her. Not a negative statement on her body- a negative statement on the dress.

A proper dress and she could pick up just about any guy in a bar she wanted- before they got drunk.

I remember the complaints about Melania wearing a white dress before the women in Congress followed her lead.

I went back this morning and took another look. I think Gospace has it right. The Governor looks fine for 47, but that dress is horrible even if it was a larger size. The only style to it is the skirt part.

As for the governor's complaints about comments, she should try wearing shorts.

It's not a terribly ill-fitting dress, but as an ample lady, she may need to look into a more supportive bra. Those drag lines between her bust are indicating the girls are going east-west more than they ought to. Besides, a supportive bra saves your back in the long run (as I'm sure she is aware)
