APA Guidelines
for Psychological Practice with Boys and Men

"PRIVILEGE
Privilege refers to unearned sources of social status, power, and institutionalized advantage experienced by individuals by virtue of their culturally valued and dominant social identities (e.g., White, Christian, male, and middle/upper class; McIntosh, 2008)"

[Here is the APA's list of the advantages resulting from the unearned social status, power, and institutionalized advantage experienced by individuals by virtue of their culturally valued and dominant social identities:]

"Although boys and men, as a group, tend to hold privilege and power based on gender, they also demonstrate

disproportionate rates of receiving harsh discipline (e.g., suspension and expulsion),

academic challenges (e.g., dropping out of high school, particularly among African American and Latino boys),

mental health issues (e.g., completed suicide),

physical health problems (e.g., cardiovascular problems),

public health concerns (e.g., violence, substance abuse, incarceration, and early mortality), and

a wide variety of other quality-of-life issues (e.g., relational problems, family well-being; for comprehensive reviews, see Levant & Richmond, 2007; Moore & Stuart, 2005; O’Neil, 2015)."

Lindsey Graham is now talking about a possible deal, where the President gets some kind of Wall, and Democrats extract a major compromise on DACA, amnesty, etc.

That is the shittiest deal anybody has mentioned to date. Republicans give up something that is stupid and useless for something that Democrats have craved for years.

This is the policy end of the Trump nightmare. Giving up important things, to get idiotic things only in the service of Trump personally.

There is no deal the Dems can call a victory that includes Trump’s immoral wall.

Nancy could have extracted a lot from Trump, but she foreclosed that opportunity.

The reason there is no negotiation is because Pelosi has made the whole thing win-lose, and the only way out for both sides is gut Trump to build the wall using emergency powers.

Just to be clear about why I’m quite satisfied with this; I would not be opposed to funding for new sections of border wall in a variety of locations. Democrats don’t seriously oppose border security with those elements. As all the right-wing press is rightly noting, Democrats mostly voted for that on several previous occasions. What they are now opposing is anything that would give Trump a talking point about how he fulfilled a campaign pledge.

I am satisfied with doing nothing right now, because I hate the amnesty deals that seem to be in play. We can get better border security anytime as long as we aren’t dealing in terms of a big political win for Trump. Democrats really want pro-amnesty immigration reform. They really, really, really want it.

Republicans should be resistant to anybody who wants a “wall” so bad that they are willing to give the Democrats that gift.

Lindsey Graham wanting to trade illegal immigrant amnesty for a border wall, is why I identify as a conservative, rather than a Republican. Stop selling our security for political comity, and do what's necessary, regardless of whether the Dems agree to play.

Maybe we should get out in front of this thing and establish our own Deplorables Social Credit System.

For example, under the Deplorables system, this woman would gain significant points on her score:

"WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS —
Police were called to a Texas Walmart after a woman was reportedly drinking wine from a Pringles can and riding an electric cart in the parking lot.
Officers responded to a call around 9 a.m. about a suspicious person in the store’s parking lot, the Times Record News reported. Investigators found the woman at a nearby restaurant and told her she was banned from the Walmart.
The caller said the woman had been riding around the store’s parking lot since 6:30 a.m., drinking wine from the potato chip can."

Lindsey Graham is now talking about a possible deal, where the President gets some kind of Wall, and Democrats extract a major compromise on DACA, amnesty, etc.

That’s the deal that the Democrats could have had this time last year, but they, and their boot-licking lackeys in the press and elsewhere, torpedoed it over whether Trump referred to countries that are shitholes as “shithole countries.” Based on what I have seen of Trump’s negotiating strategies that deal is off the table, essentially forever. You don’t reward people who have acted in bad faith with the same deal they could have had if only they had negotiated in good faith. That’s not how it works in the real world. The only way to force people to negotiate in good faith is to punish them for negotiating in bad faith.

If walls are immoral, then gated communities must be banned. Tear down the walls around gated mansions (e.g., the homes of Hollywood actors) and remove the gates from gated communities.

Yancey Ward said...

There will be no general amnesty in a deal for the wall- that ship sailed away a long time ago. I don't doubt that Graham would like to get that, but Trump surely knows that won't get him reelected. A DACA deal might be acceptable, but I will wait to see if even that is on the table any longer.

Oh stop it with that nasty, nonsensical bullshit. I did no such thing.

A. I didn't "threaten" anybody. I've never had so much as a single communication with Greta van Susteren. (Fixed your spelling for you.)

B. What I proposed to do as a thought-exercise, was precisely what van Susteren had declared was silliness and was NOT an assault on Michelle Fields by Trump's diminutive strongman, Corey Lewandowski. Lewandowski was cited by police in the matter, but back when she was whoring for the Fox News Channel (and therefore, by extension, for Trump), van Susteren claimed that the whole thing was trivial and not a crime or even a tort. Fine, I said, I'll therefore do it to her and see how she likes it. Now you have once again tried to turn that into my threatening her with physical harm.

C. Since this is about the fiftieth time that you and I have engaged in this idiotic exchange on the same topic, in the same terms, and you know everything about what I have just said in response, it is time to turn away from you and to say to the few remaining intelligent, receptive, thinking readers of the Althouse blog; just look at what has happened to these comments pages. It's a commonplace to observe how hard it is for a parent to bury a child. Well think how much harder it must be for a parent to have to butcher and kill their child in order to put meat on the table. There have already gen several cases where unpaid TSA agents have had to resort to such drastic measures in order to feed their starving families. I certainly hope this border dispute gets resolvd before there are many more such cases.

APA Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Boys and Men

PRIVILEGE

The concept of "privilege" was favored by certain special and peculiar interests in the early to mid-20th century Europe. It's intellectual belief formed the foundation for recurring cycles of redistributive and retributive change in some, perhaps many, societies throughout Sub-saharan and Southern Africa. The concept of privilege rationalizes the irreconcilable conflict of diversity or color judgment, but not, notably, selectively, other doctrines of the Pro-Choice Church.

I am pleased to see that gadfly, the Poor Man's LLR Chuck, remains ever vigilant in his defense of the noted racist commenter LLR Chuck (he of infamous "Department of Black People" infamy).

Of course, gadfly does not remain so vigilant as to remember the quite incriminating comments made by LLR Chuck, who was possibly quite heavily inebriated at the time of those comments, as that does not advance the lefty narrative.

Gadfly you will recall, attempted to utilize althouseblog to drive traffic to his/her own blog.

Needless to say, the "quality" of gadflys cut and paste comments rendered that tactic ineffective, to say the least.

You know, Meade, I now regret using the word "smear," because my critics are correct that a strict definition of that word includes the notion of "damaging the reputation of another by false accusations." As I have said before and repeatedly, I would not want to hurt Trump by false accusations. I would want to hurt Trump by true and accurate accusations.

In an interesting bit of turnabout, I had it out with Althouse before on the usage of "smear." She thought it had been a "smear" of Trump to link him with the alleged usage of the "shithole countries" phrase. At this post. Remember? Althouse thought it a "smear" that Trump had been linked to the phrase. And I tried to drill down on whether TrumpWorld was ever going to agree on whether (a) Trump didn't say it; (b) Trump said it and was right to say it, or (c) Trump said it but it was private and should never have been made public. With Althouse, I was hammering on the notion that it wasn't a "smear" if it was true. Ironic, you might say. And I would have to agree.

So yeah, Meade. I wrote that. It's an accurate quote. I'd like to see the context in which I wrote it; no doubt it was in the midst of more insults and abuse of me by the Althouse commentariat. But I wrote it and I own it and I have never once denied it.

I'm not a journalist; I'm not a judge sitting on a case in which Trump is a party. I am not a government official owing a duty of fairness and fair dealing to Trump. I don't feel that I owe any duty of fairness to Trump. I think he's hateful and despicable and an asshole and I will be very happy when something very bad happens to him.

And as I wrote yesterday, Meade; I would not ever lie about Trump by suggesting that he might not have been born in the U.S., and claim that I had sent my own private investigators to Germany to look into a matter of Trump's birth, and tell the world that they were reporting back to me that they were discovering things "they can't believe." That would be crazy. It would be stupid. And it would be a lie, that would only diminish me, and enhance the stature of the man I sought to attack.

But what's your point? Is it that in fact Obama was born in Kenya? Or are you arguing that Obama somehow made it hard to figure out where he was born? (Which now even President Birther agrees was "in Hawaii.") On the assumption that Obama lied, to make himself appear more interesting to prospective publishers, it has nothing to do with his later qualifications as President, which was Trump's moronic point in promoting Birtherism.

You and I both know, Meade, that I haven't sent either you, or Althouse, any treatise-length e-mails, and that I have probably sent Althouse about three emails in the past three years. And that you and I have never corresponded.

And further, that before Trump, I had only the most occasional correspondence with Althouse, and that it was quite friendly.

The attack on me by Drago as posted above is false, and has nothing to do with anything else that I or anyone else posted here. It's a personal attack and in the description of Althouse, "clutter."

As was Full Moon's repetitive quoting of me with regard to my wanting to "smear" Trump. Althouse's comments pages are now filled with Full Moon and Drago and a couple of others doing the same thing time and time and time again. Not because those comments are remotely on point. More "clutter."

And (again) moreover, you've got lots of Althouse blog comments pages where I haven't even commented, yet Drago and others are calling me out by name, with imagined quotes from me, phony purported positions held by me, and more personal attacks on me.

Pick any Trump-related blog post you want, Meade. Go to the comments page. I will almost guarantee you what you will find. It will feature comments that call me out by name, replete with personal attacks, when I have (a) not yet commented or (b) commented by directing myself squarely to the subject of the blog post.

This is your problem, not mine.

If I didnt know better I might suggest that Chuck is a Russian troll whose task is to sow division amongst the only party that truly represents a danger to him: the republicans.

Where is Mueller when you need him?

Oh yeah..over at DNC HQ coordinating strategy with congressional dems and the media.

I dont see how. After all, PPPT hasnt been here all day as far as I can tell.

I will let you know if he shows up.

Or were you asking for an objective observer to critique your posting practices?

Drago said...

Inga's typo detecting appears a tad...manic.

I hope PPPT has the appropriate meds to share with her.

That reference is to Ripley crashing through the wall of the colony and then rolling the tracked vehicle onto the hard earth in aliens.

I cannot decide if Chuck or Ritmo are more responsible for my growing disinterest in this blog.

Inga was always god for a laugh.

tim in vermont said...

Inga is sometimes good for a laugh. Chuck has made a. couple of funnies, though his percentage is abysmally low. PPT? He is just way too concerned that anybody should diss Obama.

He is not alone. Today on the Golf Channel, they showed Obama’s swing and asked for a word to describe it. His swing is abysmal, am I overusing that word? Anyway, one of the commenters was like “It’s a smooth swing, like you would expect from “No Drama Obama.” It’s only a “smooth swing” if you compare it to Charles Barkley. I would have said it was the swing of a man who won’t let anybody tell him anything and who thinks he is a better golfer than his pro.

narciso said...

So is the golf channel run by ESPN too. Good grief.

Birkel said...

Royal ass Inga wants me to use a different word than the one she prefers.
Given all Royal ass Inga's whinging about things, I think I will pass.

First, commenting on spelling (unless making light and in good humour) is always bad form.
Second, correcting somebody else on spelling or grammar always means you will make the same or similar mistake in short order.

Whinge about that, Royal ass Inga.

tim in vermont said...

I stopped having it on all the time as background (lots of pretty green golf courses, calming) because they kept running “promos” that were nothing but clips of Joe Scarborough doing his famous “gadfly”. impersonation.

Personally, I just skip Ritmo.

There's a vintage ham equipment contest and I just heard a guy with a slight chirp drifting slowly up in frequency, flaws I hadn't heard since the 50s.

Brings back memories of an Ill advised upgrade I made to a 15 watt 6L6 kit I put together at 13. I made a big power supply and boosted output to 50 watts, most of it went to the harmonics. Beautiful chirp until the xtal broke.
