I don't know about y'all, but I always ask "What Would Matt Damon Do?" (WWMDD) whenever I face a difficult choice in life.

I was reading Kamala Harris's new book at a cute little bookstore in Alameda. I thumbed through the index, found one entry for "Brown, Edmund G" but no references to "Brown, Willie L".

Jeez, I thought ole Willie would get at least a chapter in Kammy's autobiography.

Personally, I hope Damon blows a lot of $ promoting her.

Kamala is a nanny-State authoritarian.

KKKamala it is!

I hope she fires all Immigration and Customs officers and opens up our borders to everyone.
One better would be to have them jailed. They are, after all, like the KKK.

You can't get more established, stable, and wise than.......Hillary Clinton.

Whoever the Dems pick will not make the same mistakes as Hillary did. They may make new ones, but they will not forget to campaign everywhere, except maybe California and New York.

rhhardin said...

Maybe some Matt Damon flick like Speechless (1994) can be done, a romcom between competing speechwriters.

J. Farmer said...

Bernie is still the only Dem I'd vote for. But that would require Trump really blowing it on immigration or a launching a stupid war. Still not ruling these out, but I am certainly more worried about immigration.

rhhardin said...

There's not unanimity on whether sexual harassment is good or bad on the right or the left. It's a feminist meme.

bagoh20 said...

She could definitely shoot someone on Fifth avenue and still get CA, NY, NJ, IL, etc. The problem for the Right is the guaranteed states on the left. Right states are never as certain now days. Conservatives actually care who is running and what they are about - they can be persuaded. The Dem states cannot be lost no matter who they run.

KKKamala is the checkbox candidate.

Brown - check

But can she act?

Nonapod said...

I've composed a point system of elements that I believe failry quantify the progressive thought process for selecting a presidential candidate:

If a candidate

Is a Democrat with generally good progressive credentials +10
Is black +10
Is a women +10
Is gay +9
Is an above average looking male (a Hollywood 5) +9
Is a very well known long time Dem +9
Is between the ages of 40 and 50 +9
Is a veteran +8
Is hispanic +8
Is Asian +7
Is between the ages of 35 and 40 +6
Is an above average looking female (a Hollywood 5) +5
Is between the ages of 50 and 60 +4
Is heterosexual (a wash)
Is between the ages of 60 and 70 (a wash)
Is white -1
Is a relative unknown -2
Is over 70 -2
Is male -2

If you want to compare any two potential candidates, add all these up

J. Farmer said...

@Nonapod:

Good list, but your deductions for "white" and "male" are far too low.

buwaya said...

In a way, it doesn't matter very much who they choose.

I have never heard Harvey Weinstein described as a friend and financial supporter of Hillary Clinton, but he certainly was. I have--at least not in recent times--heard Matt Damon described as a friend and business partner of Harvey Weinstein, but he certainly was. Articles about Matt Damon should include an aside about how his judgment in matters involving serial rapists was not top notch and such judgment may bleed over to his political decisions. This type of info can help us put Matt Damon's political decisions into perspective......I'm waiting for Chris Brown and Meryl Streep to weigh in before I reach a final decision. How about a Rappers For Kamala movement. That would mobilize the youth of America for Kamala..

I didn't know that was her slogan. It is also the slogan of a large and successful local personal injury law firm in town. The kind with the lawyers' pictures on billboards and bus benches.

Off-topic- big-ish doings in Venezuela it seems.

I don't know how these compare to previous post-election anti-Chavez and anti-Maduro protests. There have been many seasons of protest.

Previous protest rounds eventually led to that batch of protesters fleeing the country, those most able to do so first, effectively purging the bourgeoisie, layer after layer.

Those left over after each spasm of outrage are the more humble strata.

So if all that's left is a core of plebs who've been sufficiently subdued and assuming Maduro is able to retain the military safely in his corner, will that leave a somewhat stable, but miserable little autocracy? I guess I don't know how Maduro is bribing the military, I assume it's with whatever little scraps are left over from the devastated economy.

I like Tulsi Gabbard. I would never vote for her, but she seems honest. Which is unusual.

Good article in The New Yorker about her.

Interesting that Bari Weiss, in that Joe Rogan podcast, calls her an Assad toadie.

I like Bari Weiss, too. Also an honest person. But that's some incompetent, bad journalism. She owes her an apology. How is it that I know more about Tulsi Gabbard than Bari Weiss does? Bizarre.

Just remember - according to the National Lampoon, it is every American's right to be black. So when they all start talking about white people - just ask them 'who you talking to Kemosabe' and walk away.

Also - are we really at a point where the ramblings of an individual who plays other people in the movies spewing dialog written by a lot of other human beings is our go to for serious affairs?

buwaya said...

"So if all that's left is a core of plebs who've been sufficiently subdued..."

That's the impression I've been getting.

Lots of Venezuelan people abroad who want a revolution, in theory, but not badly enough to do anything about it, or maybe its because there aren't any foreign governments sponsoring guerrilla camps. Maybe Brazil's Bolsonaro might.

The Venezuelan problem is a nasty one. Even if someone overthrows Maduro&co. recovery is going to be slow, if possible at all. Emigres aren't going to have something to come back to for a long time.

The military might get fed up, or someone might get paid off, if again someone abroad wants to buy them.

Chavisimo has certainly been a disaster for Venezuela, but the US gains nothing by inserting itself needlessly into Venezuelan politics, and the decision to recognize Guaido as the interim president was a bad one.

Inga: "Matt Damon doesn’t choose the Democratic nominee."

That is quite true.

Last time Hillary chose herself.

She re-directed all state party money to her campaign, had her people at the DNC hack every phase of the dem nominating process, directed Bernie Sanders to shut his pie-hole about the emails, got her minions to feed her the questions at the debates and a hundred other things early on, including passing the word that Biden would be destroyed if he ran (Biden spoke of this after the campaign).

So, our Truth-O-Meter rates the Inga comment "Matt Damon doesnt pick the dem nominee" as "True".

LOL

Democrat Politburo/Maduro-like politics at its best.

Biden’s Paid Speech Buoyed the G.O.P. in Midwest Battleground -NYTIMES

I think Biden presidential bid is history. Let me be ageist for a second. You do lose brain cells as you age, so "too old" is not good for the job of president. Schlump is one step from full blown Alzheimer, in my expert opinion.

This New York Times article says Biden was paid $200,000, not to be Trump's bitch, but for an endorsement speech. That's unforgivable, if true. Make America neighborly again, and build The Wall along the Mason-Dixon line, and send Schlump to Guantanamo for a waterboarding, er bellyboarding vacation adventure. His hamberder pot belly may mean he can dispense with the board altogether.

What pledges have we made? What do you mean by "intervene?" Does the last 20 years make you even the least bit skeptical about intervening in other countries' affairs in order to determine their government?

Not sure what opportunities Trump will open up for future opponents so all of this is just silly speculation. So far the dems have been running so far left they will exhaust themselves just trying to get back to "communist" by the time November 2020 rolls around. One thing that is a given is no one outside of California has even heard of Harris and if they did they are not sure if she is a congressman, senator or mayor.

Living in the bay area you can often hear idle talk at the lunch room, coffee bar etc. and most people weren't sure what state office she was in and vaguely know shes a senator now but not 100% sure or not if she's a state senator now. Seriously. And this is the bay area so imagine the rest of the country. My hunch is she would wind up on a VP slot if anything. Rumor has it that they are making a sequel to the movie, "Gravity," and it will star Matt Damon and Sandra Bullock. It will be called, "Zero Gravity," and is a sly reference to Damon's severe acting style, tongue flicks, doomed girlfriends, etc. But this time, Bourne's identity follows him to low-earth orbit, and Bullock sends him out for Space Starbucks, and, "accidentally," opens the hatch to his Space Subaru with her remote control. Lesson? Share the remote once in a while, fella.
