Trevor Lawrence is calmly taking over the National Championship game. He is a Freshman just turned 19 from Cartersville, Ga. And he is making the Alabama QB look over rated. The last 3 top rated high school QBs recruited all played within an 80 miles radius of Atlanta. UGA got 2 of them , but just lost 1 to a transfer to Ohio State. The third one is the Clemson kid and seems to be the best of them all.My wife says he could be a male model.

I'm a BAMA fan but Clemson is looking real good, and BAMA isn't. I'm also getting footballed out - the title game is late in the season and I am having a hard time caring. Roll Tide, yawn. And in the time it took to sign in, Clemson just scored again. Sigh.

Elizabeth Warren makes a casual, reckless, stupid mistake on Twitter, accusing Rep. Trey Gowdy of becoming a "lobbyist" Because, no doubt, one of her staff saw an article in the press reporting that Gowdy is joining the SC-based law firm Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough. Where he had practiced as a litigator before he was elected to Congress. And Nelson Mullins is being described as a "law" and "lobbying" firm.

I know Nelson Mullins. Lots of very good people. Great lawyers. It's a real law firm, with a major emphasis on real, high-level trial work. They started out in insurance defense. They got into mass tort defense; asbestos and such. Professional liability; products liability. Now they do all that, plus white collar criminal defense and corporate and institutional investigations. Which is what Gowdy is going to be doing. As a big firm, they have a governmental relations section but its a very small part of what the firm does.

No matter what, it was an ugly stupid false Tweet from Warren.

I see that Ed Buck, an important California donor to the Democrats, has been caught with two dead black men in his house. Nothing will happen to him because laws only apply to little people, not to the wealthy people who are well-connected to Democrat politics.

That's good news. I doubt Gowdy will be a criminal defense lawyer.

I saw an article a day or so ago about the Fed’s QT program. The theory is that the Fed is removing so much liquidity from the world that they’re pushing us into recession. Maybe it’s true, maybe not. But it does look like Powell has been jawboned into cutting back on QT. So that raises the question: if $0.25T liquidity is removed and the market goes haywire, what does that mean for cutting the US budget in any meaningful way? Implementing a true balanced budget would result in a loss of $1.75T in liquidity every year.

@JML, great teams have a way of making very, very good teams look like they’re having an off night.

Alabama gets its ass kicked. Good. And it happened with a girl at QB for Clemson.

mccullough said...

College football is like watching women’s Sports conpared to the NFL. It’s fun. You can appreciate the players. But it’s a slower game. Much slower. A handful of really talented players who will be playing on Sundays. The rest will be selling insurance.

mccullough said...

Tebow, RG3, and Johnny Football were great college players. Brady and Brees are great players.

narciso said...

Well Manziel really wasnt all that, mark Sanchez was valued over tebow.

etbass said...

It's hard to believe that a team that looked to me like the best college football team in my lifetime, could fall so far. Clemson played a stellar game and clearly showed mighty superiority over the Crimson Tide. Not a single penalty, not a single QB sack, not a single intercepted pass. Hard to believe they could do any better.

Mark said...

The college game can be unwatchably, tortuously slow with all the TV commercials that they have now.

Yancey Ward said...

I didn't like the way Alabama's defense had played in the Oklahoma game- Oklahoma moved the ball up and down the field with ease the last 3 quarters of the game. All in all, Clemson's performance against Notre Dame was far more impressive, so I am not surprised Clemson won tonight, just surprised that Alabama quit after the debacle of the 2nd quarter.

traditionalguy said...

After hearing the postgame interviews it became apparent that Clemson cheated. They always had a 12th player on the field they called Jesus.

If so, thank me..you bastard.

narciso said...

Heh, Gowdy missed so many times, where judicial watch or free lance researchers were able to retrieve documentation one has to see that as deliberate.

mccullough said...

Sanchez was a decent back-up QB in the NFL. Vince Young was a great college player. So was Matt Leinart.

The college game is fun to watch but it’s closer to high school football than it is to the NFL. The game is just so much slower. A few players on the good teams are really fast and quick and exceptional. Most are just good college players.

Khalil Mack played college football at the University of Buffalo. He’s the best defensive player in the NFL. The league is filled with players from smaller or lesser programs.

Aaron Rodgers was at Cal when Matt Leinart won the Heisman trophy. He had played at a junior college before Cal. Leinart is a football analyst with a Heisman trophy and Rodgers is an all time great.

Nick Saban is a great college coach. He was totally lost in the NFL. He develops players to be good college players.

Well, Chuck, Pelosi, Schumer and Inga happily decided to play 'Chicken' with a Narcissist w Brass Balls.

Instead of deferring to the desiresof the majority of America, the Rule of Law, Common Sense, and the enumerated powers of the President, they decided to push us to this stupid idiotic brinksmanship over a point of hubris and obstinacy.

All for .1 percent of the budget.

These fucking idiots!

I don't want Trump to have to do this. Unlike Democrats and Chuck, I actually worry about precedents.

The Democrats want to raise the corporate tax rate 33%...in the budget? As a nation we had this economic debate and high rates lost bigly. Now lefties want to relitigate?

"Tebow, RG3, and Johnny Football were great college players. Brady and Brees are great players."

NFL QB greatness comes from being able to make counter-adjustments when the defenses adjust to your strengths; to be able take what the defense gives you. That requires a certain amount of physical skill, but more important to that is the necessary analytical ability. The upper level college programs overwhelm their opponents due to superior recruits, and college defenses aren't sophisticated enough to be able to provide that level of challenge to QBs, so it's not easy to tell which great college QBs will make the upper level of great NFL QBs.

I was correct in my prediction that Trump would address the nation from the Oval. The rest of my prediction is that he will offer the Dems a deal involving the DACA kids and the Gateway tunnel. Max pressure on the Dems.

Trey Gowdy was my second biggest disappointment during Trump first 2 years. All talk and no results. Got nothing when he had many opportunities. (Sessions was the biggest disappointment by far.)

He was disappointing. When push comes to shove, the members of the establishment will almost always back off rather than go after the establishment.

Today's entry in "Self-parodying crazed zealotry":

"if [white adults] really want a less racist world, they may need to rethink how they approach parenting. "Everyone is trying to do the best for their kid," she says. "But I actually think that there are times when maybe the best interest of your own kid isn't actually the best choice. Ultimately, being a good citizen sometimes conflicts with being good parents. And sometimes maybe parents should decide to be good citizens over being good parents."

More here.

gates: I stated it poorly. The season is too long. The title game is one too many after a full season of games and an orgy of Bowls.

Yancey Ward said...

I think what the NCAA should do is to move the semi-finals to the lesser bowls that play around Christmas, and then the final can rotate to the major bowls played on New Year's day/weekend.

The truth is I literally forgot the final was being played last night until it was into the second quarter.
