It is funny, not in a good way, when you find nastiness in real life.
Most people I know are kind - all my friends are kind - but people in pain, when given the chance, often lash out. That is why kind people are important. I went to a restaurant with my friends a week ago and one of the waitresses gave me a very dirty look when I asked for a table that was the right size (they tried to sit six of us at a table for four) and I asked to talk to the manager and my friends all said don't worry about it, we will have a good time anyway. I am blessed with good friends.
That being said, I am getting old fast - maybe you will know what I mean when I say I have been surrounded by old people my whole life - maybe you won't, and if you don't know what it is to really and truly care for people who are getting older and not getting nicer, well God bless you - and as I get older than I could have ever imagined faster than I would have thought, I realize this ....
I can't reread War and Peace with pleasure because the first time I read it in 1974 I missed all the innuendoes about the Russians raping and pillaging the locals, when they were at war in Austria in 1805, in other words, eternally evil actions which Tolstoy glossed over.
Even reading the lives of the saints I have trouble, for example last week I was reading about a 19th century saint and the hagiographer mentioned, without expressing any concern, that the young future saint was threatened (jokingly, I guess, although what kind of joke was that) with being sent to the nuns' house of correction (in other words, was threatened with physical abuse, a real thing).
Prayer is important. Each of us is surrounded by people who do not care about other people, and, just as there is nothing easier for a good doctor, a very good doctor, than giving good advice, there is nothing easier for any of us than praying for those who surround us and who do not know that they were born to care about other people.
The reasons this comment was so long is this:

I have often wondered why Althouse calls her blog spaces for readers comments "Cafes." I stumbled on this post entitled "My Search for the Perfect Cafe" from 2008 on a blog called Problogger which ends with this advice.
A blog can’t appeal to every person – but there are ways of appealing to readers, being inclusive and highlighting that they are not alone. Create spaces on a blog for readers to interact and they’ll feel a sense of community that can convert them to be loyal readers.
So which came first - the Problogger piece or Althouse?

Following up my comment at 10:59 AM about Justice Ginsburg fading fast.
The Democrats will act to impeach President Trump before Ginsburg dies. The arguments for impeachment will not matter. However, the impeachment itself will enable the Democrats to argue that Trump has a conflict of interest that prevents him from nominating a new justice.
In this situation, the Democrats have a problem in that Speaker Pelosi has said that the Democrats will not impeach Trump until after Robert "The FBI Whitewasher" Mueller issues his report.
Mueller is happy to delay his report forever, but when Ginsburg is fading fast, then the Democrats too will begin to demand that Mueller stop participating in the DOJ/FBI stonewall and that Mueller issue his report already.
The report's findings will not matter much. What will matter is that the report be issued so that the Democrats can impeach Trump in order to prevent him from nominating a new justice to replace Ginsburg, who is fading fast.
Mueller himself does not issue his report to the public. Rather, he issues it to the US Attorney General, who might or might not issue it to the public.
Let's assume that when Ginsburg is fading fast, William Barr already will have become the Attorney General.
In this situation, Barr could receive Mueller's report and then simply sit on it. Barr could say that he is "studying" the report and "considering" whether to release it to the public. After all, Mueller has spent years writing the report, and so Barr could spend years "studying" it.
Then Ginsburg stops "fading fast", and she actually dies. Barr is "studying" Mueller's report and is not releasing it to the public.
Then, since Ginsburg has died, Trump nominates her successor. Since Mueller's report has not been released to the public, Pelosi should not allow the House to begin impeachment proceedings. After all, Pelosi has said repeatedly that the impeachment proceedings should wait for Mueller's report.
Because there is no impeachment, the Democrats cannot argue effectively that the impeachment prevents Trump from nominating a new justice.
So, the sequence of events will be:
1) Ginsburg is fading fast.
2) Therefore, Mueller stops delaying and issues his report to Barr.
3) Barr begins "studying" Mueller's report.
4) Ginsburg stops fading fast and dies.
5) Trump nominates a new justice.
6) The Republican-majority Senate approves the nomination.
7) The new justice occupies Ginsburg's empty seat on the Court.
8) Barr finishes "studying" Mueller's report and releases it to the public.
The lessons:
* Ginsburg should have retired during the Obama Administration.
* Mueller should have issued his report during 2018.

However, the Democrats will argue that the full Supreme Court might have to rule on issues related to the impeachment. Some Democrats already made that argument during the Kavanaugh nomination.
Mel Stottlemyre has passed away after a difficult illness. He pitched for the Yankees during their wilderness years before Steinbrenner. He had twenty game winning seasons three times for those sad teams. He was an All-Star five times. He then became a pitching coach for both the Mets and the Yankees. He was very good at that as well. Doc Gooden remembered him as the best pitching coach he ever had. He was a fine man who is apparently remembered well by all who knew him........I suppose you can say he had a fortunate life in that he was a successful major league pitcher and coach. Having cooked alligator, I would recommend the tenderloin portion or the white meat of the tail. The remaining portions of the creature are tough when cooked, no matter the method (no one eats braised alligator as far as I know). The same advice holds true for most animals: the portions of the beast that move the most are the toughest and can be enjoyed if cooked slowly.

That seems like a foolish argument on the part of the Democrats.
Once impeached, the Senate becomes the defense, prosecution and jury. The Chief Justice is the trial judge. What would be the purpose of nine trial judges? That sounds like a cluster flop.
I doubt if the SCOTUS has much role in impeachment other than the Chief Justice, but I will defer to Ann's learned opinion.
