Speaking of points...

There's your answer to ladders.

Trump the Impaler?

Is that "beautiful"?

ADDED: When people get skewered will they just leave them up there as an example?

AND: Protesters should catapult effigies up there and try to get them stuck.

That's right! Trump said he loved the poorly educated, not the poorly compensated.

They should have been born to Fred Trump and heirs to the $500 million he funneled to Don, as well.

What's wrong with these people!

If PPPT were shot, at least we know he wouldn't be an innocent victim.

Republicans are very interested in crime. Gang member-on-gang member crime.

Mass shootings, treason, obstruction of justice, illegal bribery -- etc. That's different.

They're good with all that stuff.

When Birkel says "shot," he just means his penis misfired.

It's ok, Burpel. Just make sure you fantasize about me in the comforts of your own parents' basement - far away from where I actually happen to be.

I have the same concern. Spikes in illegal immigration drive down the lower income brackets and create wealth disparities as well as lower the funds available for safety nets. We need to find a way to slow the rate of illegal immigration. Hmmm..

Seriously?

All the while defanging OSHA, the EPA, the CDC, a progressive tax code and taking aim at Medicare, Medicaid and SSI?

Something's not adding up.

It's hard to be for the poor when you're focusing so much attention on what you can do for the rich. I mean, other than the xenophobia bit. Better the rich get working-class Americans to quibble amongst themselves in an ethnic war than in a class war.

Let's add a bunch of expensive regulations into every facet of life while borrowing trillions of dollars.
Then, all those regulations can be used by government to protect existing businesses.
That will definitely improve the lives of the little man.

Leftists do not understand incentives.

But to answer this silly question attempting to shame the masses.

Yes, I am perfectly willing to allow a Mexican to engage in his own self destructive acts which might lead to his death. Let me go further: when it comes to mass caravans, I am perfectly happy for the authorities to shoot these people (when it comes to individuals and small groups, there are other, less lethal options and as a moral being, we should TRY to use them first)

Because America has made it very clear that we don't like illegals. We send our law enforcement after them. We build barriers to stop them. We spend a LOT of money shipping them back to their home nations. We put up signs. We make it hard to for them to find work.

So our stance is PERFECTLY clear. What moral burden do THEY have to ignore our laws?

Yes, very. I wish your side was solution oriented as well.

"All the while defanging OSHA, the EPA, the CDC, a progressive tax code and taking aim at Medicare, Medicaid and SSI?"

Rolling back onerous rules at OSHA and the EPA are a definite plus for employment numbers as we have seen. I don't know much about the CDC, so can't comment on that one. As far as the big 3 I'm assuming you are aware of their unsustainabiliy. For God's sake think of the children.

"It's hard to be for the poor when you're focusing so much attention on what you can do for the rich. I mean, other than the xenophobia bit. Better the rich get working-class Americans to quibble amongst themselves in an ethnic war than in a class war."

I caught the "racist!" part of that, but didn't understand the rest. I thought we were talking about ways to improve the condition of the poor and how we can decrease income disparities.

Onerous = The slavemasters don't like it!

Hey. Slavery greatly improved the labor force, as well. Didn't do shit for the laborers, but at least those getting the most out of their labor didn't have to contend with pesky regulations keeping the air and water clean and the working conditions humane.

Here's what happens when you get rid of "onerous" regulations. Trump gives you diarrhea!!! Occasionally lethal, too.

Onerous. LOL!!!

...didn't understand the rest.

Or the first.

I thought we were talking about ways to improve the condition of the poor and how we can decrease income disparities.

Probably by not voting for a guy like Trump who is increasing them.

Start with that part. Obviously the rest of the whole deal is something you're not going to like.

The I never heard of that thing that is everywhere so I don't believe you ploy!

Inga actually claimed that the left were not instituting hate speech rules on campuses across the country.

Inga probably doesn't even know that obama kicked Mattis to the curb during his Presidency.

There's alot of things you can't allow yourself to know to be a lefty/LLR in good standing.

pacwest said...

Good point about the water regulations rollback, but having had dealings with OSHA and the EPA (mostly OSHA) I assure you that onerous is a mild word when applied to the Obama era increase in regulations. A perfect world would be nice I guess. Have you run the numbers on the cost to the general populace on that?

And don't get me wrong. I think that pollution is a huge problem. I'm especially worried about the oceans. I also wish you would consider downstream costs (not financial ones since I can guess your views on that) to society associated with what you are suggesting.

"Probably by not voting for a guy like Trump who is increasing them."

I'm unaware that that was the case. My understanding is that real wage growth for the first time in a decade is ameliorating that somewhat. But that brings us back to the topic at hand.

Do you agree that building a strong barrier to illegal entry can help with your concerns about the poor?

I read up on "FMF", Fleet Marine Force, a term Inga mentioned for her daughter. As Marine support this daughter was required to learn "Weapons Fundamentals (Detailed knowledge of small arms such as the M9, M16A4, M4, M1014, M67 grenade, M203, and M249SAW) and machine gun platforms (M240G, M2 .50 cal, Mk19)." To demonstrate her knowledge "a candidate is expected to perform a disassembly and reassembly of many of the taught weapon systems." It made me laugh to think of Inga lashing away at commenters here as psychopathic gun nuts while her daughter was out there field stripping the "M9, M16A4, M4, M1014, M67 grenade, M203, and M249SAW and and machine gun platforms (M240G, M2 .50 cal, Mk19)", bless her heart and thanks for her service.

I'm surprised that, on a blog that often turns serious issues into esthetic maters of taste, as befits comfortable retirees in comfortable university towns, no one has seen fit to comment on Trump's true statement that this wall is "at the same time beautiful."

It's clever, really, to borrow the minimalist esthetic preferred by lefties and apply it to the one thing they despise most, the one thing they want the deplorables not to have, the one thing most likely to stop their supply of landscapers and nannies and washers of dishes, the one thing that has come to symbolize their hatred of their country.

I would argue this fence simply needs better marketing. Allocate an extra half billion to paint those things to look like pencils and crayons. Who could possibly be against raising education awareness? Maybe Crayola will even throw in some dough.

PV and PC. A ready source of subsidy, revenue, and diversity. Station environmentalists on the border to protect the colorful, yet green, wall.

See, this isn't scary.

re: pencil and crayons, and green

Trump the educator. Trump the conservationist. Trump the artist. Trump halts the progress of catastrophic anthropogenic academic disparity (lowest common interest), immigration reform (at both ends of the bridge and throughout), and aesthetic decline (it's a boy, it's a girl, it's a [colorful, yet green] wall).

n.n said...

How can anyone criticize a rainbow. Perhaps a double rainbow. This calls for a parade... powered by the colorful, yet green, carbon [dioxide]-neutral (excluding recovery, processing, maintenance, and reclamation) wall. We'll have a gay old time.

n.n said...

Maybe Crayola will even throw in some dough.

That would be Pillsbury. Crayola can wax eloquent.

Ty said...

Yes! It's one giant art project. Now we can use some NEA funds. A fence as art. Many may scoff, but back in the early 90s I was passing through Carlsbad, CA. Everywhere I saw protest signs to "Remove the Bars". I thought it was referring to actual drinking establishments until I went to a surf shop and got the explanation. The city leaders decided to hire some NYC artist to create a sculpture which ended up looking like a silly giant fence right near the beach. We had been by there earlier and I assumed it was some safety fence or something. I'm not sure what ever happened with that but here is a relevant article..

About the effigy thing, given the nature of walls it is usually not all that difficult to get such things stuck on the top of said wall, regardless of its form. I suppose it is easier if the top is pointed, but flat top walls are perfectly serviceable for hanging things.

William said...

I doubt if he means "beautiful" in a purely esthetic sense. He does often use words in ways that are somewhat different than the most widely accepted usages/meaning. And he tends to hyperbole as well. My guess he was saying that it is relatively esthetic rendering of a giant wall, especially compared to giant concrete monoliths, coupled with the fact that it performs its function well. A "beautiful" solution to a significant problem.
