"Powwow"?! Can you say that? Microaggression!

I'm trying to read this Washington Post article but I'm having a problem with the headline: "Fact-checking Trump’s rowdy powwow with Pelosi and Schumer."

Did Trump speak with forked tongue?

I won't read WaPo's "Fact Check" nonsense. Their track record is pretty horrible and biased. And trying to quantify something that's purely subjective like how bad a given lie is by rating it with "pinocchios" seems highly questionable to say the least.

WaPo should award honest injuns, leaving open the original sarcasm as a possibility.

Since they started doing endorsements, The Washington Post never endorsed a Republican for President. Think back through time and imagine how much bias is needed to accomplish that.

The Post has never endorsed a Republican for governor in Virginia going back as far as 1977, and no Maryland Republican has been endorsed for the Senate since the 1980s.

The have zero credibility fact checking politics.

Here's a bit of news for Ann: President Trump is a liar. Not only that, but he's a serial pervert, adulterer and sex abuser, a con man and a serial bankrupt, a money-launderer, an accomplice to a murder cover-up, an unindicted conspirator in campaign finance felonies, not to mention something ranging from the dupe, to the stooge, to the active and witting agent of Russian state, intelligence and organized crime interests. His personal lawyer is going to jail for three years and is cooperating with the government. At least 16 Trump campaign officials or associates have been shown to have colluded with Russians before and after the election. Ann and some of her readers don't appear to care about any of this, except to the degree that she finds the whole situation pretty hilarious. Hey, how many times have you heard of a lawyer going to jail for crimes he was directed to commit by his client, and the client goes free? None. This is going to be the funniest: when Trump's orange skin is fitted with an orange jump suit. He's going to be in a federal or state penitentiary within about two years, unless he gets busy with a plea deal. Ann will laugh at that!!

So the word "powwow" got you to blog and link the WaPo story, Althouse.

And because you blogged it, I clicked on the link and read the story. And in reading the story, I came away impressed at the level of mendacity employed by Trump in that meeting. (I was disappointed that the WaPo Fact Checker staff didn't dig into the truth or falsity of Trump's claim that he could get the House to vote for Wall funding in "one session," whatever that might mean. But whatever.)

So thanks to the word "powwow," the anti-Trump message was effectively communicated to me. All while I enjoyed some delicious coffee! And with my coffee, I had a little covfefe too!

I am so glad that you mentioned the Farm Bill. The Swampiest, most Pork-filled pile of shit in Washington DC is the Farm Bill.

But Trump is going to play Washington politics on the Farm Bill. And if you were going to suggest that $5 billion could have been a rounding error in the Farm Bill (I don't know if you'd agree with that, it might be a bit of hyperbole), I'd agree.

But Trump seems completely happy with the Farm Bill. As with the other Swamp Dwellers, Trump is happiest when he is spending taxpayer money and taking credit for it.

That was such an interesting part of the Oval Office Powwow. Trump fighting over $5 billion for his Wall, while they all patted themselves on the back for the Farm Bill.

It just goes to show how The Wall is all about Trump. This minor down payment on any wall extension is all about Trump's ego, and his base, and his previous campaign, and a future campaign, and Trump's wanting to claim victory.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said in June that “on average, my department now blocks 10 known or suspected terrorists a day from traveling to or attempting to enter the United States.” But that includes all ports of entry. And almost all suspected terrorists are apprehended at airports — not along the southern border.

Does that really rebut, much less factually refute, what Trump said?

Native Americans were hardly monolithic in their cultural values. For instance, among the Yurok (and their neighbors the Hupa and Karuk, with whom they shared an identical culture, though the tribes otherwise spoke radically different languages) — riverine folk who inhabited the lower basin of the Klamath River in California (California's third largest river, after the Colorado and Sacramento) — all the best land within about a mile of the aforementioned stream was privately owned.

It's no doubt no coincidence that the modern Yurok reservation (the Yurok being the largest Indian tribe in California) closely follows that one-mile radius from the River.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan are investigating whether President Trump’s 2017 inaugural committee misspent some of the record $107 million it raised from donations, people familiar with the matter said.

The criminal probe by the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office, which is in its early stages, also is examining whether some of the committee’s top donors gave money in exchange for access to the incoming Trump administration, policy concessions or to influence official administration positions, some of the people said.

What Trump promised, to get elected, was that "Mexico will pay for the wall." Let Trump get Mexico to pay. Congress should withhold the taxpayers' money.

Yes, it's increasingly obvious after dozens of indictments, several convictions, a couple prison terms, and widening inquiries now into not only campaign finance violations, inauguration corruption and ties to the Saudis, not to mention the Russian spy who's singing like a birdie, that poor little Donald Trump is entirely innocent of any wrong-doing whatsoever! Not only, but he's, like, really smart, and of course really funny and personable. But even, if he did actually commit numerous crimes, Ann and some of her readers are persuaded that in fact, since it was Trump who committed them, that they must not be crimes at all! That's because the President is exactly the human paragon Ann and some of her readers find most admirable. She thinks he's a smart man, an honest man, a subtle thinker and a great president. And really funny, too. That's the sort of penetrating analysis some of her readers flock to read. Hahahahahahaha!!

iowan must have only read the blurb, and seems to confuse the US attorneys' office with the media. Here are the sentences from the WSJ story that follow the lead:

Giving money in exchange for political favors could run afoul of federal corruption laws. Diverting funds from the organization, which was registered as a nonprofit, could also violate federal law.

The investigation represents another potential legal threat to people who are or were in Mr. Trump’s orbit. Their business dealings and activities during and since the campaign have led to a number of indictments and guilty pleas. Many of the president’s biggest campaign backers were involved in the inaugural fund.

The investigation partly arises out of materials seized in the federal probe of former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s business dealings, according to people familiar with the matter.

Of course, the theory holds: even if these are crimes if other people did them, they can't be if Trump, because. The other thing that's going to good coming out of this is that Mike Pence will get nailed. So funny!

Oh, fuck off. Now you made me go to YouTube, and look up an appropriate video montage of Trump crowing at his many asinine stump speeches, about how Mexico will pay for the wall.

I'm not going to trust Trump, who might say that if Congress will fund the wall, Trump will figure out some way to make Mexico pay or otherwise get even financially with the Mexican people.

No, Rusty; I'm not into that. I'm like every reputable bank in the United States that would have declined to loan the Trump Organization $5 billion dollars in 2016. (Of course there was Eric Trump, answering a golf writer's question about funding for Trump's Scotland properties, saying that they could get all the funding they need from Russia.)

The silver lining in the never ending investigations is that it will set precedent for examining all of Obama's and Clinton's donors, friends and family members.
Every dollar donated to Obama or Clinton in any way, shape, or form can now be investigated.
Obvious to even the most partisan is that Hillary and Bill speeches are not worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Obamas book advances not worth millions of dollars unless something is expected in exchange, whether favors already done or future influence imagined.

Trump and associates being investigated for things done years and years ago. Open the books on all of Clinton's and Obama's people. Should be interesting.
