Trump tweet-threats "Two can play that game!"

"If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!"

Maybe with the Senate wins we can now have an Attorney General who will lead an investigation of his own damn department.

And how about an Inspector General for the CIA?

I encourage the Democrats to resist and obstruct Trump's agenda 24/7 for the next two years. Let Maxine Waters lead the charge. Keep Peter Schiff in front of the cameras. Bring Gwen Moore into the spotlight. Chuck Schumer will, of course, need no help finding the microphones.

Let's have a vote on impeachment because (fill in blank).

Send in the clowns. Results matter.

Unlike Clinton's missing emails. Trump's tax returns are in aa known place and should be available to the public; this is a fight worth while and should take as much time or money as the Republicans have spent on Clinton investigations.

Trump isn’t turning over his tax returns. Not that anyone could even understand them. The IRS will ignore House subpoenas as they have always done.

They’ll send some lackey to testify and that person can roll their eyes at Ocasio-Cortez stupid questions.

I don’t understand this idea that Congress has the right to publicize the President’s tax returns. What legal basis is there for that?

The husbands of Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi are bankers who by hard work and shrewd business acumen have become extremely wealthy over the years. Their success is a triumph of the free market system. They're not like those other bankers that Nanny-Max preach against.

Trump did no worse in the midterms than other recent presidents despite 90% unfavorable, biased coverage and daily TDS editorializing from the Resistance mediaswine and the inconstancy of Paul Ryan and John McCain, etc. Republicans are portrayed by the media and celebrities as evil. More likely they are merely petty and stupid. The Democrats and their media consorts are evil (or dupes of the evil). Conservatives are in defensive mode preferring petty and stupid to evil. Ultimately, “Evil” will prevail.

Meanwhile, Trump needs to can Sessions, Rosenstein and Wray and hire partisan ass kickers to clean the DOJ/FBI house and pursue Democrat wrongdoing. Schiff and his ilk will get the message soon enough. Without a strong AG Trump’s threats are just blather.

Why?? The tax returns are a settled negotiation between Trump, and the IRS. I can see how revealing Trump's tax return might make the IRS look bad, but paying less taxes makes Trump look smart.

"Ahh, but the tax returns that's... that's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with... geometric logic.."

I don't get it. Why a connection between possible House investigations and investigating leaks? What do they have to do with one another? If there were leaks that violated the law they should be investigated period. Whether or not to investigate leaks shouldn't be a political decision.

This idea that tax returns can be successfully subpoenaed by Congress is hilarious. Good luck with that. If you want to see the tax returns, you will need someone in the IRS or Trump's accountants to leak them- you won't get them by subpoena.

Here’s an illustration of the ongoing ignorance of lefties. They don’t understand the difference between public and private conduct. Citizen Trump, like all developers, filed tax returns taking advantage of all loopholes. Sec. of State Clinton breached the public trust and committed two federal felonies. Despite the Comey whitewash, that is a no brainer.

I use “ignorance” generously. I have long suspected that lefties don’t care if it is criminals and grifters who forward their agenda.

Yes. The bad thing is that nothing will be able to be done (not that Congress does much anyway). The good thing is that nothing will be able to be done.

Except. Of course, Trump has a phone and a pen....not to mention a Twitter account.

How can anyone look forward to two (six?) years of investigations and counter investigations or believe that such investigations are in the public interest? But as surely as the sun will rise on its diurnal cycle, the Dems will promptly begin theirs. In that case, the GOP must not unilaterally disarm. So countering investigations, here we come.

Investigations are clearly just theater. Put somebody in jail for Christ's sake. Firing is bullshit for these crimes. You can go to jail for having pot, but not for major felonies of willingly leaking classified information over and over? WTF? Both sides can now drain the swamp together in glorious bipartisanship.

Trump was spot on calling Moms Mabley "Low IQ Maxine". She was my representative for years in California, and she is dumb as a brick, as well as racist and dangerous. "No Justice - No Peace" during one of the worst and most deadly riots in history. She is an embarrassment.

When so much of what Congress does is garbage legislation, accomplishing less over the next two years is probably the best possible outcome. I noticed the stock market was rising yesterday. The DOW is up almost 400 points when I checked a few minutes ago. Gridlock means less legislation gets passed. That's likely a good thing.

I awaited the results yesterday hoping the Republicans would not only hold but gain in the House. Obviously, I was wrong about that. The lunatic fringe has gained control of the Democrat Party. Given historical election patterns, they will regain the White House before too long (most likely in the 2024 election). That's inevitable. I want a sane Democrat Party when that happens, not the socialism and politically correct lunacy we're seeing today. For that to happen, the Democrats need to suffer a massive defeat on the order of McGovern in 1972. Then, if there are any sane Democrats left, they can work to bring their party back from the extreme edge they're dancing on today.

I assume you also don't get why children aren't spanked unless they do something wrong. I mean, if spanking is a good thing, it should be done independent of the child's behavior.

This is a case of the process being the punishment. And while in general I do not favor that, that is exactly what the Democrats are threatening with their investigation. So Trump is making it clear that he will give as good as he gets.

If Democrats go after the tax returns, they better have something substantive, not just legal stretches, novel theories of criminality, or the kind of shit they threw at Kavanaugh or its going to backfire big time.

steve uhr said...

Ignorance -- initiating an investigation for political reasons is an abuse of power. Unlike your hypo, congress isn't doing anything wrong by exercising its oversight responsibility. Even if it were, that is not a legitimate reason to investigate something else entirely.

Why hasn't Trump already asked the FBI to investigate the leaks? The FBI isn't Trump's private tool to use as he wishes to investigate and punish his enemies. That is how banana republics do business.

Ignorance is Bliss said...

steve uhr said...

Yes, it is. And it is exactly that abuse of power that Trump is responding to. Calling it oversight does not change that, just as Trump calling it a prosecution of leaking does not change that.

steve uhr said...

The problem is that trump is saying that he will investigate democrats BECAUSE they are investigating him. He admits that the investigation is political in nature. When has that happened before? There have been politically motivated investigations before, but who has ever admitted it? Bad form.

And how can you say that all investigations by the house are an abuse of power. You don't even know what they will be investigating. Why, for example, is an investigation of trump's intricate international and largely unknown business relationships and whether they may have impacted his official duties not legitimate oversight?

tim in vermont: If Democrats go after the tax returns, they better have something substantive, not just legal stretches, novel theories of criminality, or the kind of shit they threw at Kavanaugh or its going to backfire big time.

Maybe someone can explain this to me. Are the Dems claiming that there is good reason to believe that there is something shady in Trump's tax returns, and that the IRS is looking the other way regarding tax-evading financial shenanigans? You know, *that* IRS? Or maybe that the IRS is incompetent to evaluate returns for non-compliance, and Congress needs to do it for them? Or perhaps that there is a category of "tax returns" out there that have nothing to do with what gets filed with the IRS?

'Cause as far as I can make out, lefties are demanding that those tax returns be made public so that the Congress can investigate whether the IRS is withholding information about Trump's tax returns from the IRS.

Or are they just planning to ook and scree and hope that they can convince the usual idiots that paying only what is legally owed in taxes is "not paying one's fair share", and therefore an (impeachable) violation of the law (as long as the employer of tax lawyers in question isn't a Democrat)?

Inga...Allie Oop said...

So Trump basically admitted he is obstructing the investigation once again, this time by open retaliation.

roesch/voltaire said...

FYI asking for tax returns is not an investigation. Federal law gives congressional tax committees the power to obtain anyone’s tax returns. If the taxpayer doesn’t consent in writing, the committees still have the power to obtain the returns in a secret meeting,
So this will take few tax dollars and should reveal what an honest man Trump is.

That condition has already existed for two years, so why not for the next two or perhaps even more years? Trump is fighting the Russian investigation, firing top FBI and DOJ people, which has exposed his complicity. Additionally, he enlisted House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes to distort facts and accuse FBI investigators of being liars and crooks; Nunes deliberately kept relevant info private by refusing to have his committee interview the Trump staff and family. Finally Republican committee members declared - no collusion - but Senate Intelligence reached the opposite conclusion. So have the courts and the Grand Jury.

Perhaps now we will get a look-see at Trump's tax returns and an investigation into his emoluments violations. From there to the Trump Laundromat is an easy transition.

FIDO said...

Sure. And the Senate Judiciary committee can start to look into the State Department and ask questions about leaks, and lack of application of their own rules re the Clinton Private Email server.

Then we can ask MORE questions about all those destroyed IRS hard drives and chase down a few more culprits and smear their reputations. This is called a 'Clinton'.

I am not for corruption. I am against witch hunts. The Democrats have engaged in witch hunts a lot recently. So doubt about their motivations isn't 'politics'. It is 'history'.

'I don't like you' is not an impeachable offense.

He is fuzzy on that term, as well as 'evidence', 'due process' and 'presumption of innocence'.

Now, for a sensible person, this disqualifies Democrats from power. Alas, every thinks that ignoring those precepts means they will never be on the wrong side of the guillotine.

It just means they get a later place in line. Ask Trotsky.
