I remember in middle school geography we were taught climate zones - torrid, tropical, temperate and Arctic with latitude range for each.
By climate change are scientists saying these zones now are changing latitudes? Will disappear?

We are fast approaching November, 2020. That will also be the 400th anniversary of the landing at Cape Cod of the Mayflower carrying 100 Pilgrim colonists of New Plymouth. Half of them died of a disease they faced while suffering from famine and exposure for the winter. But they kept their faith and made it a successs that spring and summer until the First Thanksgiving that fall. And yes, they ate Turkey, lobster, duck, cod and other fish along with Indian corn taught them by Squanto.

Later, Cotton Mather attributed their successes to William Bradford whom he called their Moses, and whose very well done written account in 1648 is considered the first great American literature written. The British Army captured the original manuscript circa 1777 in Boston, but we got it back from England after an 1880 lawsuit.

IIR the Professor is descended from Cotton Mather. The Mather community arrived in 17 ships in 1630 and founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony in Boston Harbor. They were Puritans rather than Separatists, but they greatly respected the Pilgrims at Plymouth as the spiritual founders of New England.

Would it not be more informational if data can be used to generate *average* temperature for 1degree` latitude bands instead of global *average*?

I just received my car insurance renewal bill along with a note apologizing for the steep rate increase, but the cost of repairing these complex new cars and medical treatments have really risen in recent years.

All that "free" stuff is getting quite expensive, isn't it?

etbass said...

It pays to shop for new insurers for both auto and homeowners insurance. Rate creep just seems part of the business strategy. I find almost invariably that I need to change companies every 3 - 4 years and find better rates by sometimes 50%. Then the creep starts again, with the new company. Easy to shop nowadays on line and takes no more than an hour or so.

I know somebody who was on the flight from West Palm to Boston last night that was delayed for 7 hours because some kids heading to Boston were upset at being bumped and made some comments on Snapchat about “blowing up the plane.” They brought in a SWAT team, bomb sniffing dogs onto the plane, offloaded all of the luggage to check it, on and on so the passengers didn’t get in until about 6 a.m.

The geniuses were wearing gear that was a certain shade of Crimson with a white ‘H’ on it. Fucking geniuses, well connected no doubt, since their names seem to have been kept out of the papers.

Narayanan Subramanian,

"Would it not be more informational if data can be used to generate *average* temperature for 1degree` latitude bands instead of global *average*?"

I think this would confuse more than it clarified, because so many factors affect climate besides latitude. You'd be averaging the Mediterranean coast of Italy and France with southern Vermont. Mount Everest and Tampa, Florida lie darned close to the same latitude.

On a more positive note, Democrats flipped 41 US House seats.

“In a speech addressing the Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vest) movement Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron stuck to his green agenda, promising to close 50 per cent of nuclear plants and make France carbon-free by 2050.”

That’s the sound a 1st world nation makes as it charges to the bottom.

Everyone is a racist, Inga. That's as far as your tiny leftwing Rachel Maddow brain can take you.

tim in vermont said...

Nothing like the 63 Republicans flipped on Obama, and they took the Senate too, but if it makes you feel better....

Speaking of Supreme Court Justices, here is an interesting quote I just ran across from Salvador Dali:

The difference between false memories and true ones is the same as for jewels: it is always the false ones that look the most real, the most brilliant.

WWIII Joe Biden, Husk-Puppet + America's Putin said...

How many house seats were flipped in 2010 after Obama poisoned our nation with his progressive Davos decline?

Just for your comparison amusement.

tim in vermont said...

The new Democrat House is going to undertake the same climate change agenda that led to riots in France. Coupled with the same immigration agenda that led to Brexit and Merkel stepping down.

Pass the popcorn.

Surprise, calling people racists doesn't work anymore!

The new Senate majority is going to ram through another constitution respecting judge when Ginsberg dies in the next two years. Hopefully you aren't still around to see it, you retarded old cunt.

tim in vermont said...

How long are Democrats going to be able to hide behind the media’s skirts pushing two extremely unpopular agendas? Only so long as they have zero success, is my bet.

Ousting Claire Hillary Clinton McCatkill from her lifetime of personal graft in the senate was the most delicious.

So what explanatory purpose does global average have if it won't work to average by latitude?

WWIII Joe Biden, Husk-Puppet + America's Putin said...

The best part of the democrat agenda is their non-stop desire to destroy our health care system. Single payer - Universal health care - medicare for all. Whatever they call it, it will make us long for Obamacare's failures and lies.

Narayanan said...

Complex systems should not be simplified Willy nilly silly.

Narayanan said...

It's unscientific to do so.

tim in vermont said...

Of course the Democrats still have Democrat Bob Menendez, credibly accused child molester in the Senate, so Inga has that to be proud of.

tim in vermont said...

At least Republicans rejected Roy Moore. Democrats have stuck by their little “Lolita Express” frequent flier.

wildswan said...

The Dems are going to repeal the tax cut, impeach Trump in the House and raise utility bill prices by raising taxes on gas and coal. Generally go to Venezuela by way of California. It won't do anything for the nation but then they hate America first when they get up in the morning so they won't mind. I sincerely hope the House Republicans are ready to fight, not to play we're all friends together in DC.

WWIII Joe Biden, Husk-Puppet + America's Putin said...

Menendez - who let his eye doctor scam Medicare & helped him do so.

New Jersey has such high property taxes, nobody can afford to buy anything on a living wage. But that's because democrats care.

Democrats also cast 9 million more votes than Republicans in these midterms. Can’t wait for 2020.

WWIII Joe Biden, Husk-Puppet + America's Putin said...

Inga is excited for the corruption to regain it's former glory.

tim in vermont said...

Yeah, pile up the votes in the blue states. Out of power party always does well in the mid terms, So you can figure that was your high water mark. When this Russia thing totally collapses, what then?

The creator of Sponge Bob Squarepants has died. I would sometimes hit on Sponge Bob while surfing. If you watched for more than a minute or two, you were hooked. The jokes were funny and utterly devoid of malice. He must have been a good man. I'm genuinely sorry to hear of his death and at a relatively young age......I wonder if Spongebob will live on or if Spongebob was strictly the rssult of one man's creative vision.

tim in vermont said...

I am sure that the impeachment won’t produce any backlash, so I say go for it!

tim in vermont said...

SpongeBob is the best. I have wasted many the minute on that show. When my kids were little, I enjoyed them, and I even enjoy him with the next generation of rug rats that find their way to my house.

tim in vermont said...

Manchin, of course, had to lie to win, and uncorked the truth about how he felt within minutes of winning. How do victories like that translate?

President-Mom-Jeans said...

SpongeBob was an infinitely more important and well written show than Girls, no matter what Althouse's delusional opinion says.

Remind which Senator was an avowed Klan Member? Byrd? I seem to recall he was a democrat, the same pro-slavery party of Civil Wars days, and predominant opposors of Civil Rights legislation in the post-WW2 era. Makes you wonder if calling conservatives racist isn't just another case of libs accusing others of their own guilts.

Moore dated girls above the legal age. All the girls were conscious. The one time he was with a girl below the age, he cut the date short following discovery. There was no rape, rape-rape, or superior exploitation. Has any new evidence come to light about an alternative history?

No thanks to Baker V Carr or Reynolds V Sims. If the Framers had had any idea of the demographic change from a rural population to an urban one, they would have created some way of limiting the power of cities.

I think VDH is starting to get tired of being odd man out at NR:

Today, Jim Geraghty writes snidely:

VDH writes, “The hostile reaction to Trump is a sort of proof of his success.” Does it follow, then, that if Trump was widely loved, it would be proof of his failure?”

Geraghty creates a false either/or binary.

Not "My good friend Jim didn't quite get my point".

As an aside, that post takes literally over three minutes to finish loading in firefox. That's absurd.

I read a book review tonight, about a book on the capture of Eichmann. The review said it was a great book, except it was “troubling” and “problematic “ that Eichmann was presented as evil.

So when you think Inga is as bad as it gets, think again.

it's Really Quite Simple Walter!
Hyde-Smith is a Republician, ergo she is A RACIST!
or
Hyde-Smith is a White, ergo she is A RACIST!
or
Hyde Smith is from Miss Sippi, ergo she is A RACIST!

when, like Igna, you paint with a large brush; it takes few strokes

@gilbar, also, Hyde-Smith was running against Mike Espy, a race-baiting Black asshole, and she failed to drop out of the race and bow down at his feet. Is any further proof needed?

"The hostile reaction to Trump is a sort of proof of his success."

Absolutely, because the success of his policies/the approach he takes to his policies makes him much more dangerous to his opponents, but within and without the Republican party.

Hagar said...

I was surprised to see Mike Espy was running for Mississippi senator. I thought that they had dropped the charges against him against a promise to leave town and never come back.

And how many of those were legal registered citizen voters voting legally? How many of them were still breathing? How many illegal voters? How many of those votes were cast by Dem party workers after they found out how many votes they needed to manufacture?

Probably not, since he lost the election so there was no further need to pursue any more dirt (real or contrived).
