The horror of efforts to connect the Pittsburgh massacre to Trump.

I will just give one example of the kind of commentary that feels like an immoral elevation of politics over humanity: "Trump’s Response to the Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting and His Obsession with the Word 'Frankly'" by Katy Waldman in The New Yorker. First, overuse of a word, a verbal tic, is not an "obsession." Second, 11 people were shot to death; who cares about Trump's repetition of a word? I like to do language analysis, but 11 people were murdered. What seems like an "obsession" here is the desire to get after Trump with anything and everything that comes up. Can you just stop for one day?

I'll just quote the fifth of the five paragraphs in the linked piece. Was this worth saying? Does it even make sense?
Before opening fire on the Tree of Life congregants, Bowers posted a message to Gab, a right-wing social network that, like other online forums for extremists, casts itself as an embattled bastion of free speech. “Trump is a globalist, not a nationalist,” Bowers complained on the site. “There is no #maga as long as there is a kike infestation.” The gunman’s accusation evoked a riff-cum-vocabulary lesson from Trump’s rally in Houston on Monday. “A globalist is a person that wants the globe to do well, frankly, not caring about our country so much,” the President explained, before asserting, “I’m a nationalist.” The “frankly” in this case—meant to expose the dirty truth about globalists, and to preface Trump’s oath of fealty to tribal politics—reads as far more honest than anything the President said on Saturday. He is frankest at his rallies and on Twitter. There is a difference, of course, between saying what you mean and saying what is true. Trump is not practicing frankness when he deplores hatred. He is being frank when he foments resentments that are phantasmal. For him, falsehoods carry the weight of facts, whereas reality is “truly unimaginable.”
You can connect anything to anything if you want, and when it's that hard to do, you must really want it. Did Katy Waldman look back on that paragraph and think, God, am I smart. What a language master I am, unlike Trump who keeps saying "frankly"?

"He is being frank when he foments resentments that are phantasmal" — I can't believe she didn't get out the thesaurus and find a synonym for "resentments" that began with an "f" sound. Let me try... He is being frank when he foments fuckeries that are phantasmal.

This argument about globalist vs nationalist vs HItler is fun for the media outlets, I suppose. When you hate someone, you hate everything about them and you want everyone else to hate them too. That's our free press today. They hate Trump. They hate having Republicans in charge. It colors everything they say and do and they can't see it.

I go back and forth on whether they believe this "stuff" or if its just sophistry meant to advance the cause. The cause being their own economic well-being at the expense of the working and middle-class Americans who are cast as deplorable because it is a lot more easy on your conscience when disenfranchising people if they are morally inferior.

Everybody practices tribalism to some extent. The author's tribe is upper-class, educated, people who believe what she does. She doesn't see that as a tribe, but they have the same values and interests and they look out for each other. I don't know her background, but it seems like a lot of people in that tribe are related to each other or at least went to the same schools.

The things that Trump is saying, that Globalism enriches the financial interests of Wall Street at the expense of the middle-class, that exporting manufacturing harms the middle-class and weakens the US, that migration should be controlled to prevent the importation of cheap labor, thus depressing wages, were standard talking points of the Democrat party right not that long ago. The Clinton legacy with blacks is increased incarceration, Trump is working on prison reform.

I've noticed this about the headlines at liberal media sites- New York Times, New Yorker, The Atlantic, New York Magazine, etc. The headlines invariably blame Trump for whatever horrible event happened. They put me off so much, I don't click through, so I'm not sure if they accurately reflect the article they are supposed to represent. It all seems so demented. Also, they come up with stunning speed. There is no way the author had time to reflect on the event, whatever it was, before blaming Trump for it.

This is what comes from having a mono-culture in the newsroom. Had there been a decent mix of political views among the writers and editors of The New Yorker, this column never would have been published -- at least not in its present form. When the Bernie Bro shot-up the Congressional Republican baseball team at practice, did MSM publications allow columnists to attribute responsibility for the attack to Bernie Sanders? No, because that would have been irresponsible (and because they would have offended over 90% of the the people in the newsroom). When someone does something bad, and someone writes a column blaming Trump, there's no push back from any of the other writers or editors. All that's heard is cheers.

Trump is the standard-bearer for angry white christian men. He speaks to their grievances, and gives them hope. Trump is the one who feels their pain, and gives voice to their anger and disappointments.

This has been a common thread in the media for two years now, including Fox News, The American Conservative, and Rush Limbaugh.

The Pittsburgh killer is an angry white christian male. Trump has a unique understanding of what interests him, motivates him, and makes him angry.

That's why it's natural for people to connect Trump with hate crimes committed by angry white christian males, like this one in Pittsburgh. In fact, you'd have to try pretty hard to miss the connection, it seems to me.

Left-wing friends of mine constantly insist that Trump refuses to unequivocally condemn racism, white nationalism, antisemitism, right-wing violence, etc. etc. and is stirring up the crazies with his nationalist rhetoric.

When I quote whole paragraphs of speeches where he does condemn all those evils unequivocally, they call it lip service, because Trump is still saying racist xenophobic things elsewhere.

By which they mean: Trump still insists on no illegal immigration, and no tolerance for radical Islam. And when he fights back against the characterization of anyone to the right of center (for instance: anyone who might not want a Lee statue torn down) as a Nazi, they hear it as Trump defending Nazis.

Has anyone written anything even close to rational about Trump in the New Yorker since he won the election?

Mostly the New Yorker is what it has been for the last few decades, an outlet for those with highbrow tastes who are embarrassed to have such tastes, and people of means who are embarrassed they can afford the goods and services advertised there.

But on anything remotely connected to Trump, everything published in the New Yorker has just been so insanely hysterical that reading it has become cringy-voyeuristic, like observing the carnage at a car crash: you don’t really want to read or view it, yet it’s so garishly bad it’s impossible to not at least take a peek.

As with most hysterias, the hysteria says far more about the hysteric than about whatever the hysteric is hysterical about. Has the New Yorker gone nuts because Trump is not some hayseed from Texas, but actually born-and-raised in, umm, New York?

"The horror of efforts to connect the Pittsburgh massacre to Trump."

It all revolves around the reality that Jews primarily fund the antisemitic party, the Democrats, and their candidates. They very likely, anymore, provide more funding than any other source. Jews also provide a significant amount of the top leadership of the Democratic Party (averaging maybe 10% of the Senate for some time, including such notables as Schumer, Feinstein, and Sanders), as well as being its intellectual leaders. They would be far safer, and fit better, in the Republican Party, essentially becoming a silent part of the whole, as the Mormons did, in trade for statehood (Mormons had been Democrats up until then, but switched to Republican in a deal for statehood that included 8 Senate seats) (the 2 groups have comparable portions of the population, and Senators, Mormons faced more 19th Century discrimination (and murders), but face no violent discrimination any more as Jews continue to face to this day).

Jews, for the most part, in this country, face significant cognitive dissonance with this Faustian bargain that they have made with the Democratic Party. Cognitive dissonance just like we are seeing right now in the desperate attempts to pin the shootings at the PA Synagogue yesterday on Trump and the Republicans, trying to rewrite the reality that this shooter, as well as the perpetrators of almost all antisemitic hate crimes in this country, are leftists, and tied to the Democrats. The Dems can't afford to lose them financially, but need the votes of the most antisemitic elements of society. You hear this in the ever more outrageous conspiracy theories Jewish Democrats seem to use among themselves to justify continuing to belong to and support the antisemitic party. For example, bring up conservative and Christian support for Israel, and you immediately hear about the Rapture, some Christian Evangelical thing that I only hear about from Jewish Democrats. The reality is much simpler - Jesus, his family, Disciples, etc, were all relatively devout Jews living in and around modern day Israel, which the Bible tells us is the Jewish Promised Land.

Ron Winkleheimer said...

I understand that this may not be the moment that you wish to critically examine Trump's verbal tics, Althouse.

Was there ever a time when you critically examined Trump's verbal tics? With the same rigor and sarcasm with which you critically examined the writing in The New Yorker or the New York Times?

I must say; there is a part of this that is or should be obvious to your long-time readers. You don't go after the verbal recklessness of a Sean Hannity or a Lou Dobbs or a Jeanine Pirro because -- I have seen you write in the past -- you find them and all who are like them (left and right?) to be too boring and annoying.

I presume that you read The New Yorker and the New York Times because you have done so for decades, and you find some if not most of the writing to be fascinating. And because you are struck by their editorial aggression against Trump, while you have a neutral (at least!) view of Trump.

You seem to rarely take note of the legitimate criticism of Trump's regular, repeated recklessness in his use of language. Trump's language ought to mean a lot more to the national discourse, than a magazine or newspaper columnist.

Chuck said...

By the way, seeing Bruce Hayden quote Althouse's line, "The horror of efforts to connect the Pittsburgh massacre to Trump," prompts me to observe that it really is a good line and a clever observation by Althouse and I congratulate her for it. No. The narrative must be continually fed. It is a shield and a totem for the intellectually vacuous modern liberal.

Liberal and conservative writers used to produce ideas, just as engineers produce designs and factory workers produce products. After a long, sad decline in the ability to reason, modern liberals just produce words full of signaling but devoid of worthwhile meaning.

Of course, the natural result of hating Jews is that White Christians must also hate Jesus, his family, Disciples, as well as David, Solomon, Moses, etc, because they were all Jews. Which, of course, contradicts the original point.

This is unmitigated bullshit. Their enemies didn't call them socialists, we called them fascists. It is stupid that you claim that "we" celebrated their "socialism" in the U.S. prior to WWII, when you consider that most of their prominent fans were on the right (e.g., Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh). The early Nazi party was indeed socialist (or at least the factions in the Ruhr valley), but once Hitler consolidated power, some socialist rhetoric stayed, but the policy was right wing and openly courted the industrialists and the traditional (Prussian royalty dominated) military. Goebells, who was an ardent socialist and was responsible for most of the socialist rhetoric that continued throughout the Reich, was a slavish follower of Hitler.

What "socialist" policies did the Nazis institute? What industries did they nationalize? Where was the land reform to break up the large estates in Prussia? The Lebensraum plans were downright medieval. Enslave the remaining populations of Eastern Europe to serve imported Aryan landowners who would be granted large estates.

Fanatics and ignoramuses will never learn or accept that which belies their belief systems, but, for what it's worth:

"The early, pre-Nazi party that Hitler joined toyed with forms of market control to benefit small businesses and to halt ostensible "foreign" - that is, Jewish - control over markets. But such dalliances would not last long. Yes, Mussolini had been a socialist early during the First World War, but broke with his comrades to support Italian expansionism, and then formed his fascist party to crush them. As in fascist Italy, Nazi ideas were self-consciously formulated to negate those of the left, not to imitate them. When Hitler took over the party in 1921, he shredded the anti-capitalist parts of the old party's platform.

"Under Hitler, the party looked squarely to the middle classes and farmers rather than the working class for a political base. Hitler realigned it to ensure that it was an anti-socialist, anti-liberal, authoritarian, pro-business party - particularly after the failed Beerhall Putsch of 1923. The 'socialism' in the name National Socialism was a strategically chosen misnomer designed to attract working class votes where possible, but they refused to take the bait. The vast majority voted for the Communist or Social Democratic parties.

The minority anti-capitalist strand of Nazism (Strasserism) on which van Onselen fastens was eliminated well before 1934, when Gregor Strasser and the Storm Trooper (SA) leader Ernst Roehm were murdered with over eighty others in the "Night of the Long Knives." In fact, Strasserism had already been defeated at the Bamberg Conference of 1926 when the Nazis were polling under 3% of the vote. Here, Hitler brought the dissidents back into line, denouncing them as 'communists' and ruling out land expropriations and grassroots decision-making. He heightened the party's alliance with businesses small and large, and insisted on the absolute centralisation of decision-making - the 'Fuehrer (leader) Principle.'

"When the already isolated Strasser brothers tried to reinvigorate their project one last time in 1930, Hitler and Goebbels banded together to force Otto Strasser to leave the party and Gregor Strasser to publicly recant. When the first electoral breakthrough to a popular vote of 18% came in 1930, the Nazi party's anti-capitalist minority were well and truly defeated. The 'Night of the Long Knives' purged the old SA, not because they were a hidden vestige of socialism, but because Roehm's army of street thugs were a potential threat to Hitler's personal consolidation of power. A struggle over socialism in the Nazi party played absolutely no role in the purge of 1934.

"For their part, businesses welcomed the Nazis' promises to suppress the left. On 20 February 1933, Hitler and Goering met with a large group of industrialists when Hitler declared that democracy and business were incompatible and that the workers needed to be dragged away from socialism. He promised bold action to protect their businesses and property from communism. The industrialists - including leading figures from I.G. Farben, Hoesch, Krupp, Siemens, Allianz and other senior mining and manufacturing groups - then contributed more than two million Reichsmarks to the Nazi election fund, with Goering tellingly suggesting that this would probably be the last election for a hundred years. Business leadership happily jettisoned democracy to rid Germany of socialism and to smash organised labour."

Don't think our own big businesses wouldn't be as eager to jettison democracy...what faint vestige of it we still retain. In essence, that is what they've been working toward for decades.

The pure libertarian wing of the republican party is under fire for open borders without any concern for cultural assimilation and impacts of dumping millions of poor, uneducated, low wage workers into our nation at precisely the same time that technology is delivering massive disruption in employment with low skilled workers destined to be replaced rapidly by machines in all sorts of occupations.

Libertarians don't concern themselves with thinking about 10's of millions of unemployed people standing around with nothing to do.....and where that leads.

Interestingly enough, the open borders libertarians, like the Koch brothers, are fully aligned with the far left/dems (who want the permanent majority 10's of millions of immigrants would give them).

Heather was a high school graduate who had worked for years as a waitress and a bartender until 2012 when she was given the opportunity to work at a local law firm in Charlottesville, VA. Upon getting this opportunity to better herself and establish a career, Heather embraced and worked hard to become a paralegal. While working as a paralegal, Heather continued to voice her concerns and views about equality. She often expressed her deep frustration because minorities, genders, and religious cultures were being unjustly treated. By speaking out for justice and equality, Heather embodied the spirit of the civil rights movement.

Heather was a young woman deeply involved in taking a stand against injustice when she didn’t have to do so. Heather’s story shows how much has changed since the civil rights movement, but it also shows how much hasn’t changed.

It has been noted that the NeverTrumpers went Full NeverTrump and aligned with the dems right about the time that Trump stood up at the South Carolina republican debate and blasted GW Bush and all the other US leaders who backed permanent interventionist policies in the Middle East and elsewhere.

It is said that is the moment Bill Kristol went Full Cuckoo and devoted himself to helping the dems/left/deep state/anyone who hated Trump.

He wasn't the last.

At that moment, the NeverTrumpers aligned with the dems to stop Trump.

But that is ironic, isn't it. Cookie here will probably tell you that HE is for ending all the interventionist polices of the previous administrations, republican and democrat. (he can confirm that himself).

Bernie Sanders talked about that.

Both Trump and the many on the left speak continuously about the rigged system and concentration of power in the US.

But here is where it gets interesting again: Where is the power most concentrated? Washington DC? Some say yes. Others say no, that Washington is the symptom. It's really the most massively powerful corporate entities that we have ever seen: The tech giants.

And even more ominous: the tech giants are in control, to a large degree, of the information that is provided to people.

And those tech giants are not transparent and have their own agendas.

So where does that lead a sort of traditional conservative who expounded for years on free markets, free exchange of goods/services/people?

Right back to Teddy Roosevelt progressivism. Which overlaps with some of the left on policy grounds.

Which is why Trump is so dangerous. He has "broken" out of all the previous paradigms.

The dems could have coopted him early where they agreed. Instead, their identified strategy was full "resistance". In so doing, the shoved Trump all the way over to Full Conservative and given us the most conservative governance any of us have seen in our lifetimes.

And, oh yeah. He also happens to have existed within the media stew/milieu that has equipped him to be one of our most effective mass market communicators and brand manager.

This is why I think what happened in Brazil is a huge indicator. Brazil has been poorly run for centuries.

Lula and his party were the left's dream on success. Then they got into office and did what lefties always do. They stole the church silver.

Bolsonaro was such a threat that they tried to assassinate him. Right on TV.

He survived and is president. The Guardian describes him as another Trump, which he may be.

A new axis in the Americas looked possible on Monday as Donald Trump expressed his delight at the victory of extreme rightwing politician Jair Bolsonaro in the Brazilian presidential election.

The US leader said he had had an “excellent call” with the former army captain who openly admires dictatorship and torture. “We agreed that Brazil and the United States will work closely together on Trade, Military and everything else!”, he tweeted.

The remarks suggest an affinity that could reshape politics in the region and beyond.

Let's hope so.

Quite true. But that was meant as a criticism of the welfare state, not of open borders.

@bbkingfish,

What is it about houses of worship that makes them so attractive to angry white christian males with murderous intent?

Charleston -- Black Christian church -- A.W.C.M. murderer
Milwaukee -- Sikh Temple -- A.W.C.M. murderer
Texas -- White Christian Church -- A.W.C.M. murderer
Pittsburgh -- Jewish Temple -- A.W.C.M. murderer
Kentucky -- Black Christian Church -- A.W.C.M. murderer*

Why is this style of mass assassination, in the House of the Lord, so particularly attractive to the angry, frustrated, Christian man of light complexion, do you think.

What is your proof that any of these guys were "believing" or "practicing" Christians? One is not a "Christian" because one is white, male, & right wing. One is a Christian when one believes & lives according to the beliefs of a Christian sect.

Does that apply to any of these guys? Show us the proof.

How do you know? Did you ask him ?

If there were no welfare state, I would be OK with open borders. We used to have that, you know. Mexicans came and went to work. Then they went home.

Read "Centennial," sometime.

The subject of Ann's post was the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre. I am talking about that, and other recent mass murders where the assailant chose church services as the venue for selecting his victims, whom the murderers did not even know.

I am talking about mass murders of anonymous citizens in church, so mass non-murders of public figures known to the assailant, crazy though that assailant might be, is not really the same thing at all.

This is true even though the guy who shot (but did not kill) Rep. Scalise, one James Hodgkinson, is himself an angry white christian male.

Angry white christian males kill lots of people who aren't at church at the moment of their demise, and they attempt unsuccessfully to kill many, many others. But those have not been the subject of any of my comments here. So please try to stay on topic.

@Robert Cook, Inga, Freder,

Fanatics and ignoramuses will never learn or accept that which belies their belief systems, but, for what it's worth:

No, it's more complicated than you side likes to believe.

The term "socialism" means the ownership or control of the means of production by the state. There is no particular need for that state to be organized along Marxist principles for it to be "true" socialism.

It was asked above "What did the Nazis nationalize?". Well, I'll get to that, but let me increase your level of discomfort first by pointing out that another supposedly "far right regime" Mussolini's Fascist Italy had the second largest percentage of state ownership of the means of production after the USSR in 1932. So, there's one "right-wing regime" that nationalized lots of industry.

There's a good reason for the Nazi's "failure" to implement the full range of their social paternalist program as outlined in their Party platform -- they were in power for 6 years before they were in a full out & out war. Let me explain.

Hitler comes into office in 1932, but doesn't consolidate power even within the Nazi Party until after the Night of the Long Knives in July, 1933. The Night of the Long Knives resolves the issue of if the Armed Forces will stay autonomous rather than go under the command of the SA, as the SA would have preferred. Hitler knows he cannot alienate the army officers because he thinks Germany will be at war soon, and even though the SA has more men under arms than the German Army (capped at 100,000 by the Treaty of Versailles), Hitler needs the professionals not the play-soldiers.

And here lies the reason why the Nazis never went full-on "Soviet-style" expropriative socialist: The Nazis studied the history of the Bolshevik Revolution & they knew that War Communism had destroyed the Soviet economy, thus forcing Lenin to introduce the New Economic Policy (NEP). The Nazis thought that their abrogation of the terms of the Treaty of Versailles (also a major part of the party platform) stood a very good chance of inciting France and/or Britain into armed action against Germany. This is in 1934/35, not 1939! But for the Nazis, the abrogation of Versailles was the key to military & economic recovery.

So, what did they do? They made peace with the hated Juncker aristocratic officer corps & they supported German industry as it was, because they were soon going to be at war. The Nazis started with the policies of the NEP, because they could not afford the chance of destroying their industrial base right before a war.

@bbkingfish,

So, essentially you have no proof that any of the guys you call out as being "White Christian males" are "Christian". It is, after all, more difficult to discern than "white" & "male". It would just be so much easier if one of them had screamed "Ad majorem gloriam Dei!" during a massacre, wouldn't it? But. no such luck.

@MichealK,

I've read a lot of Milton Friedman's stuff. He was very much opposed to the welfare state, and favored the free movement of both people and goods across borders. He was not an anarchist but called himself a classical liberal, which is quite different from today's liberalism. Friedman favored freedom for both markets and people, and he had faith that free markets could and would ameliorate most social problems if only governments would let them.

bbkingfish said...

What does whether or not they were "practicing" or "believing" have to do with anything?

I never said or implied that I thought they were "practicing" or "believing" Christians. In fact, if I had to guess, I would assume that these murderers weren't enthusiastic church goers, but that certainly wouldn't make them any less Christian. The bar among Christians, after all, is not terribly high for identifying oneself as Christian.

Christ, even Donald Trump claims to be Christian, but he's never "practiced," any religion at all, has he? Famously, the man couldn't even name his denomination during the election. Remember?

But Trump recently has, for political purposes I assume, taken to calling himself Christian, and all those evangelical "leaders" seem willing to play along, so Christian is what he is in my book.

So, until I hear that one of these church mass murderers is calling himself muslim, buddhist, hindu, or an avowed atheist, I'm thinking he's actually a good, old-fashioned, angry white male Christian mass murderer of church congregants.

That seems to be the only species of mass murderer of church congregants we grow in the USA, and no one here seems to take any issue with that, at least.

YoungHegelian said...

@bbkingfish,

What does whether or not they were "practicing" or "believing" have to do with anything?

Because you're the one who's claiming "white Christian male" constitute some sort of causative properties for mass murderers! But, you have no idea what the term "Christian" might mean except as some sort of catch-all bucket for your sociological hobby horse.

never said or implied that I thought they were "practicing" or "believing" Christians. In fact, if I had to guess, I would assume that these murderers weren't enthusiastic church goers, but that certainly wouldn't make them any less Christian.

I think I already posted that I would agree if there were no welfare state but there is.

The problem is that many Big L Libertarians, ignore that fact and still advocate open borders which attract the useless mouths that Democrats think will vote for them as soon as they can get them registered, as is happening in California. I would not be surprised if most of Hillary's plurality in CA was votes by illegals.

My wife's drivers' license expired on her January birthday 2016, the same year that illegals could get DLs. She could not get an appointment to renew until April.

The world is the way it is, not the way we wish it was.

Certainly.

There are three groups that want high-density population centers and population replacement: Democrats, businesses, and Pro-Choice/feminists.

The issues are the progress of anti-nativism, diversity, and immigration reform in lieu of emigration reform.

Who said anything about causative properties for mass murderers?

I merely pointed out some obvious common features exhibited within a particular sub-species of mass murderer in the USA, one that I can't remember seeing before the past few years, and, thus, was worthy of note. No need to go all super-defensive on me.

I said or implied nothing about causation. Please confine your critiques to things I actually say or do, and spare me the fruits of your hallucinations.

Freder: "You use phrases like "useless mouths", yet are surprised and shocked when we call you a Nazi."

Every republican since literally Dewey has been called a nazi. (Truman called Dewey a Nazi an a Communist!).

So, no. Why would anyone be surprised that a party full of Freders, who have access to the complete results of the Bundy trial which exposed govt corruption but continue to lie about it, would also call every republican alive a nazi?

It has literally been going on for 75 years.

Freder Frederson said...

I usually ignore these rants because they are off topic, but you have worn me down. Just because the BLM acted improperly and may have indeed harassed the Bundy's, does not excuse the Bundy's blatant criminality over many years (trespassing on federal lands and refusing to pay grazing fees) and taking up arms against the Federal government

Birkel said...

Actually, according to the court, the BLM's behavior did precisely excuse the Bundy family and friends.

Do you often type things diametrically opposed to the truth and easily checkable, beside?

Freder Frederson said...

Actually, according to the court, the BLM's behavior did precisely excuse the Bundy family and friends.

No, the justice department's concealing pertinent facts about the behavior of federal agents made the judge throw the case out. In other words, they got off on a technicality (which the right used to despise).

Birkel said...

Yeah, no. Conservatives believe in due process. When government uses its power to harm private citizens, we object. The Constitution is not a technicality. And frankly, I am unsurprised that a Leftist like yourself objects to constitutional protection of individual rights.

And what did the Justice Department hide from the court? The illegal behavior of BLM employees. That is as I stated. You are wrong on principle and on the facts.

It's a damned shame you are such a state-power-fucker that you cannot admit the plain facts.

First, overuse of a word, a verbal tic, is not an "obsession."

It indicates something they feel a need to emphasize. Trump says "frankly" a lot because he knows people rightly think he's a liar, and has to overcompensate by pretending that he's actually sincere. It usually indicates what the person knows they are weak in. In Trump's case, that weakness is honesty.

Second, 11 people were shot to death; who cares about Trump's repetition of a word?

People who want to do something about the policies that this Jewkiller of a president pushes for despite their link to a 50% rise in anti-semitic hate incidents.

I like to do language analysis, but 11 people were murdered. What seems like an "obsession" here is the desire to get after Trump with anything and everything that comes up. Can you just stop for one day?

Can you just stop absolving him of everything that he does for one day?

No, you can't. This head-in-the-sand bullshit stops today. Worst anti-semitic massacre in U.S. history. Something's going on and you're going to keep hearing about it - whether you like it or not.

Did you object to our use of torture in Abu Ghraib, Gitmo, and elsewhere, (resulting in several reported deaths)?
