Standards don't matter if they are just things you enforce on other people. They get their power when you visibly live by them yourself. For example, why should Republicans abhor Donald Trump when it was the mainstream media who lavished attention on him in the first place. As long as it got them ratings and they thought it was hurting the GOP, the media was thrilled to give Trump more air time than anyone else.
Then when he won, the media had a chance to reflect and decide that maybe standards should matter after all. But instead, they continued to only matter for Donald Trump.

the FBI ignored a 2002 tip from a scientific colleague of the actual anthrax killer, who turned out to be a Fort Detrick scientist named Bruce Edwards Ivins; the reason is that they had quickly obsessed on an innocent man named Steven Hatfill; the bureau was bullied into focusing on the government scientist by Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy (whose office, along with that of Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, was targeted by an anthrax-laced letter) and was duped into focusing on Hatfill by two sources – a conspiracy-minded college professor with a political agenda who’d never met Hatfill and by Nicholas Kristof, who put his conspiracy theories in the paper while mocking the FBI for not arresting Hatfill.
In truth, Hatfill was an implausible suspect from the outset. He was a virologist who never handled anthrax, which is a bacterium. (Ivins, by contrast, shared ownership of anthrax patents, was diagnosed as having paranoid personality disorder, and had a habit of stalking and threatening people with anonymous letters – including the woman who provided the long-ignored tip to the FBI). So what evidence did the FBI have against Hatfill? There was none, so the agency did a Hail Mary, importing two bloodhounds from California whose handlers claimed could sniff the scent of the killer on the anthrax-tainted letters. These dogs were shown to Hatfill, who promptly petted them. When the dogs responded favorably, their handlers told the FBI that they’d “alerted” on Hatfill and that he must be the killer.
Technically, Trump and CNN do have different jobs.

I was watching CNN when they cut to Trump’s press conference regarding the opioid crisis. Melania and then DJT commented on the mailbombs. CNN cuts right back to the studio and everyone on the panel immediately bashes Trump. Didn’t say enough, didn’t say it right, didnt name CNN or the other recipients specifically, wasn’t presidential enough, couldn’t be believed on this because he’s so coarse to others, didn’t take any responsibility, and on and on and on. It was, as usual, a 24/7 bashing session. They are oblivious to their hatred...

CNN is heavily invested in the bomber being a right winger (odds are in favor of that imo). If that is not the case, if it turns out to be a false flag, they won't be able to climb out of the hole they've dug. You can't backsplain vitriol like they've shown. Plus, if it turns out to be a left winger their responsibility in the matter is *exactly* what they are trying to inappropriately blame Trump for.
It seems to me the Trump accusers have put themselves in a position of betting the farm on this one, while Trump himself has minimal exposure. Not that bright.

Even our local rag, which used to be a moderate-Republican paper, has succumbed to the madness and has become a simple propaganda sheet. There was a headline on a column this week that read "Trump blames victims for being bomb targets." Accurate except that he didn't, there were no victims, and there were no actual bombs. None of which matters when your raison d'etre is to scream your hatred of Trump every day. I wonder if they will ever figure out that they aren't exactly supplying value to an under-served market; there are 10,000 places to go for the daily dose of anti-Trump. Failure is the end game for most, except those like WaPo that are subsidized by a billionaire.

The suspect lives in Adventura. Debbie's congressional district. I live in the area, not many Republicans in Adventura. What isn't clear is if all the fake bombs were sent from South Florida or if some were sent from elsewhere. If some were sent from elsewhere then there must be more than one suspect involved.

Unlike others (you) who are so eager to breathlessly jump to conclusions, I want to know the real story. Who is this guy. What are his voting patterns. Does he have an online presence. Do others who know him in real life have information about him.
Until we know these things the rest is just fluff and rumors. There have been so many instances of false or premature reporting that later have to be walked back, that I really don't believe much of anything anymore without positive proof.
What we do know....if the reports can be accepted as true is that the 'bombs' were not real, or able to actually detonate.
