I've been pondering the problem of pornography. I understand that the internet has made it easily accessible, and Amazon even sells it for Kindle. Combined with the aggressive #MeToo movement, I fear young men are turning to porn instead of learning to have good relationships with real women. I've been reading some studies that suggest frequent use of porn rewires the male brain to respond better to porn than to real women. When I was in medical school we were taught that porn is OK and a normal interest for young men, but I don't think this is any longer the case with its easy availability. And what will these porn/whore robots do to them? Thoughts?

I think the same is happening with video gaming. One of my daughters married a guy who I liked and was nice looking and smart but all he did was play video games. He was not interested in social life or families. He worked and had a reasonable job but at home it was all gaming.

They finally divorced and it was hard on her. She was thinking she wanted kids and a normal life.

@Sydney,

I buy this. True, I haven't been on the dating scene since I got married 23 years ago. Back then, we didn't have the internet; instead, we had an occasional Playboy magazine and an occasional strip club. Indeed, I lived in North Beach in San Francisco, around the corner from the famous Condor and other SF strip clubs, but only went 1 or 2 times. They seemed totally worthless, because there were too many attractive real, live SF females to meet and date.

Now, it seems that young males have lost the fine art of dating, are paralyzed with fears of being deemed sexual harassers by angry politicized women, and have tons of access to porn, whenever they want it.

Do they have corn maze attractions out that way? New England isn't know for raising a lot of corn, but there are several local farms that do grow corn and set up mazes at this time of year, presumably to attract and entertain families with kids.

Just have to find the right women. Legal immigrant women from Eastern Europe are good prospects for young men. A lot of good young black women and Latina women.

Don’t date a white female who graduated from college unless she believes in Hod and attends religious services at least a few times a month. If a lad is in high school, don’t date a young White’s female who wants to go to college unless you met her through church or some similar religious based connection.

And don’t donate your sperm.

Let the Julias die off alone and childless. In 50 years, society will be better off.

The only way to go now, is to get hormone injections and get a nice pair of tits, become a shemale, and then find yourself a nice lesbian woman.

Lesbian women seem to be alright with a semi-operational penis, but you have to have tits.

That is to say, the more hormones, the less roto gets to the rooter.

Porn for men is aimed at ejaculation, which abruptly ends their interest in sex, so that obsession isn't obsessing them for a while. It's a defense against brain wiring.

The social effect is that there's no sexual reason to interact with women. It's not a rewiring though, just the disappearance of a former practice.

Women could combat it by giving men a nonsexual reason to date them.

The optimistic view, I suppose, is that more realistic fake sex will reduce the willingness of men to accept bad relationships in exchange for sex. Which will force a reckoning in human relationships and make them more mutually rewarding.

It’s the “only Nixon could go to China” thing. Until #MeToo has cost the Democrats a Presidency or a Senate or Supreme Court majority, it will have no real validity with half the population. Did you believe the Rolling Stone article on Rape at UVa?
Did you believe the allegations against Ted Stevens?
Did you believe Monica Lewinsky? Juanita Broadderick?
Did you believe the initial allegations against Larry Craig?
Did you believe the initial allegations against Anthony Weiner?
Did you believe the bribery allegations against Judge Hastings?
Did you believe that Dan Rather's report was true?

This list could be lengthened easily.

I would think that the Venn Diagram of people who correctly divined the truth in all these cases is pretty near a Null set. (I applaud the acumen of those who bat a thousand) And now we have another allegation to consider.

I presume Judge Kavanagh is innocent and that he should be appointed to the Court. If it turns out later that he is found guilty of what happened, he can be impeached.

I love CSPAN.

Yesterday, Jiminy cricket said no one is going to want to become a judge anymore. I remember in the early 90s a friend saying who’s gonna want to become a cop after the LA riots? My answer is that this almost never happens. The law schools, last time I checked are stuffed, overflowing. Young people are not always gazing at the fires that the middle-aged are sometimes stoking.

Well anyway, yesterday’s hearing was good. I agreed with nearly everyone I heard! How’s that possible? It also renewed my respect for Feinstein. She is an awesome lady. There’s probably many stances I would not agree with her on, but she is upright and one of the most articulate people I’ve ever heard speak in Washington, DC. She would have made one of our best presidents, I’m sure.

One thing that disappoints me on the Democratic side is that no one really ever reflects my view - that it’s difficult to know what happened, but that the man is a dumbass and on that basis should be voted down. But I’m an oddball Democrat anyway, who agrees with what to me is the most obvious description of the problem that Dump gave about the immigration crisis — FIX THE PROBLEMS IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY.

Finally it’s sad that boys are required to do less and less physically these days, and I know Camille Paglia says that it’s the LACK of socialization that makes men rapists - whereas the feminists she critiques say that it is the socialization itself that creates rapists - but maybe the physical side of existence and survival, well there’s something to be said for it, and we lose it at our peril. I think dudes like Kavanaugh are an example of that loss, there are others.

Then again, who knows!

Bottom line: Feinstein is guilty of spoliation of evidence.

She hid the evidence from the Chairman of the committee, and the Chairman was denied the knowledge he needed to conduct a fair session. Then caused the evidence to be leaked to the media.

The Senate should now vote to sanction Feinstein. It is the right thing to do.

Ford’s friend said she didn’t know Kavanaugh and never met him.

That’s a refutation of Ford’s Claim. Saying she didn’t remember a small gathering of 4 boys and Ford and her isn’t helpful but doesn’t contradict. Saying she doesn’t know Kavanaugh contradicts. They both could not have been there. So Ford is wrong about one thing she said is a fact.

And after the way Ford shit on her friend the other day, she came off like people with mental illness do when their version of reality is challenged.

Let’s hear from Ford’s parents. The FBI must interview them.

The highly partisan Snopes can’t even bring themselves to admit that the story is true, but they aren’t stupid enough to say it is false. Apparently Snopes doesn’t like the spin people from the center and right side of the news spectrum are putting on it because it makes Feinstein look bad.

Trump's "loving parents" is a callout to this between-the-lines disavowal by her father. As an analogue, a non-sexual offer of friendship is good, too. We've all had hot "friends" who sometimes crossed the boundary of friendship, into romance or one night stands. In addition though, I've been fortunate to have a lot of healthy platonic relations with attractive women - my sisters' friends, my friends' sisters, my friends' wives, my wife's friends, etc, etc.

That's why I can't stand these angry feminists. Mostly, they have shitty miserable lives themselves, and blame others for it.

There's a lesser known Springsteen song called "Lost in the Flood" off his first album so unless someone was a real devoted fan at that underage drinking swimming party, I don't think that song (or album) was on the stereo That Night That Summer Some Place Possibly in '82. Maybe a few cuts from The River album but even that's doubtful. (Can't think of any song references associated with Lost in the Weeds.)

Hopefully my posted references to songs NOT likely to have been playing - Van, Prince, Sheena Easton, Eagles, Bruce, maybe a couple more - it's been going on so long, I can't remember all my posts.... in any case, I hope by eliminating the "nots" it can help to pin down what exactly was being played too loudly. That would be a dramatic breakthrough to other possible details, on that I'm positive.

FBI leaks begin

"Corrupt elements within the DOJ and FBI have a vested self and ideological interest in supporting attacks against supreme court nominee Kavanaugh. Less than 18 hours later, those corrupt FBI officials begin leaking information to the Washington Post.

(Via Washington Post) The FBI has begun contacting people as part of an additional background investigation of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, including a second woman who alleges that the Supreme Court nominee sexually assaulted her, according to people familiar with the unfolding investigation.

The bureau has reached out to Deborah Ramirez, a Yale University classmate of Kavanaugh’s who alleges that he shoved his genitals in her face at a party where she had been drinking and become disoriented, her attorney said Saturday."

Michael K said...

More on the mysterious boyfriend that she didn't want to talk about.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse produced an enlarged poster of the calendar entry and laid out the Democratic theory.

"Dr. Ford said that Kavanaugh and Judge and PJ and at least one other boy were all at a house," Whitehouse said. "Well, we know Brett Kavanaugh was there because it's his schedule. And here's Judge, and here's PJ. Here are all those three named boys and others at a house together just as she says."

"She said Kavanaugh and Judge were drunk and that she had a beer," Whitehouse added. "They were drinking, just as she said."

Whitehouse is going apeshit about this date, July 1, 1982 in the calendar.

Rachel Mitchell, the prosecutor Republicans hired to question Ford, asked Ford about Garrett. Ford was willing to talk, but she refused even to say Garrett's name.

"You mentioned that there was a classmate who was really sort of the connection between you and Brett Kavanaugh," Mitchell said to Ford. "Who was this person?"

"I think that that case with Mr. Whelan, who was looking at my LinkedIn page and then trying to blame the person, I just don't feel like it's right for us to be talking about that," Ford responded.

"I'm not trying to blame anybody," Mitchell said. "I just want to know who the common friend that you and -- "

"The person that Mr. Whelan was trying to say looked like Mr. Kavanaugh," Ford answered.

"OK. How long did you know this person?"

"Maybe for a couple of months we socialized," Ford said, "but he also was a member of the same country club and I know his younger brother as well."

"OK. So a couple of months before this took place?"

"Yes."

"OK. How would you characterize your relationship with him, both before and after this took place, this person?"

"He was somebody that, we use the phrase, I went out with — I wouldn't say date — I went out with for a few months," Ford explained. "That was how we termed it at the time. And after that we were distant friends and ran into each other periodically at Columbia Country Club, but I didn't see him often."

"OK."

"But I saw his brother and him several times."

"Was this person the only common link between you and Judge Kavanaugh?" Mitchell asked.

Oh oh. He was at the party Whitehouse is excited about. She did not name him.

How did she know he had became a judge? Appointments to the court of appeals generally aren't national news. She and Kav didn't go to the same school, so her alumni newsletter probably wouldn't have said anything about it. If she heard about it on social media, I would be interested seeing her social media reaction. Come to think of it, I would also be interested in seeing her social media postings as Trump considered Kav and other judges for the seat. At the hearing, she testified that they were all highly qualified, or something. I wonder if that is how she described them at the time.

Under California law, as with almost every other state, in order for a person to identify publicly as a psychologist they must be licensed by the California Board of Psychology, a process that includes 3,000 hours of post-doctoral professional experience and passing two rigorous exams. To call oneself a psychologist without being licensed by a state board is the equivalent of a law school graduate calling herself a lawyer without ever taking the bar exam.

According to records, Ford is not licensed in the state of California. A recent search through the Department of Consumer Affairs License Bureau, which provides a state-run database of all licensed psychologists in California, produced no results for any variation of spelling on Ford’s name.

Looks like the Delmonico can be cut from any of the steak cuts. The stuff we buy in stores, is graded Choice. The best steakhouses only buy Prime, and the top end restaurants, buy prime, then age their own beef and cut their own steaks. Aging is just controlled rotting, the tissue breaking down is where the tenderness comes from. The Delmonico is created by the prep, and cooking. I haven't ordered one before. Like you, Ribeye is always reliable. Fillet Mignon is what I go with if I want to treat myself. The beef tenderlion is the most tender and flavorful part of the cow. A cook has to try very hard to mess it up.
In the Des Moines area, there was a big influx of Sicilian immigrants in the 1920's. They opened dozens of super clubs/steakhouses/speak easys. One of their creations is what they called Steak De Bergo. Fillet, with a whole cream, butter and garlic reduction. It is very tasty.

She is an expert so she can't be nuts and the survivor must be believed.

The #metoo mob demands Kavanaugh stand for all sexual abusers. Politicians are afraid of confronting this mass hysteria, where the "victim must be believed," due process be damned. It's strange to watch this in real time as opposed to reading about it in the Middle Ages or some other less enlightened period.

Too bad Dr. Ford couldn't be questioned on the topic of "false memory." It is worth looking at a few articles on false memory, what that is and how do they happen:

Distinguishing True From False Memories: Need for Corroboration

Also, "...memories are often mixed; some parts are accurate and some are not. Separating the two can be a chore under ordinary circumstances. A woman might have consciously repressed childhood sexual abuse by a neighbor or relative. Some experience in adulthood may serve as a retrieval cue and she remembers the abuse. This disturbs her and disturbs her dreams. She has nightmares, but now it is her father or grandfather or priest who is abusing her. She enters RMT and within a few months she recalls vividly how her father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, priest, etc., not only sexually abused her but engaged in horrific satanic rituals involving human sacrifices and cannibalism. Where does the truth lie? The patient's memories are real and horrible, even if false. The patient's suffering is real whether the memories are true or false. And families are destroyed whether the memories are true or false." ELIZABETH F. LOFTUS

I don't think the election will hinge on this but I do think the impact it will have worsens your side's prospects. Republicans are just defending elitist prep school frat-boy bullshit and are too defensive to understand the difference between a matter of character and a matter of criminality. For all that conservative berating of whatever "Me Too" or feminism means, their side is being a hell of a lot less black and white about the offenses and consequences in this case.

From Basley Ford's Transcript (from WaPo):

"...Over the years, I told very, very few friends that I had this traumatic experience. I told my husband before we were married that I had experienced a sexual assault. I had never told the details to anyone — the specific details — until May 2012, during a couples counseling session.

The reason this came up in counseling is that my husband and I had completed a very extensive, very long remodel of our home and I insisted on a second front door, an idea that he and others disagreed with and could not understand.

In explaining why I wanted a second front door, I began to describe the assault in detail. I recall saying that the boy who assaulted me could someday be on the U.S. Supreme Court, and spoke a bit about his background at an elitist all-boys school in Bethesda, Maryland. My husband recalls that I named my attacker as Brett Kavanaugh."

"...FEINSTEIN: Well, can you tell us what impact the events had on you?

FORD: Well, I think that the sequelae of sexual assault varies by person, so for me personally, anxiety, phobia and PTSD-like symptoms are the types of things that I’ve been coping with. So, more specifically, claustrophobia, panic and that type of thing.

FEINSTEIN: Is that the reason for the second door — front door…

FORD: Correct.

FEINSTEIN: … is claustrophobia?

FORD: Correct. It doesn’t — our house does not look aesthetically pleasing from the curb.

FEINSTEIN: I see. And do you have that second front door?

FORD: Yes.

FEINSTEIN: It’s…

FORD: It — it now is a place to host Google interns. Because we live near Google, so we get to have — other students can live there."

There is a good 2015 Google Street View of her house in 2015 on in this discussion thread that shows only ONE front door:

Two Front Doors????

"...And are there any pictures of her house floating around? Does she have two front doors?"

(Scroll down)

The room is not the "master bedroom" as alleged in the thread. Instead (according to the 2008 building permit) it is a new 735 square foot bedroom extension to the house. almost certainly built in the backyard, not the front yard.

Yancey Ward said...

One of the oddities of Ford's story might be easily explained by the theory that the therapist's notes were right all along, and Ford has not only been lying about it, but actively working around this inconvenient detail all along.

The polygraph exam required Ford to write a statement, the veracity of which she was required to attest to during the exam. Now this was an exam she took on August 7th, if memory serves, a week after she had sent the letter to Eshoo and Feinstein naming Kavanaugh as her assailant, and in the "early 80s" (I will come back to this date description in a moment). However, in the hand written statement she was required to write for the polygraph exam, she does two very unusual things- (1) she doesn't name Kavanaugh at all- it is a generic description of a potential sexual assault, and (2) she first wrote "early 80s", then changed by crossing out the "early", leaving the description of the time as simple "80s".

Why would she do these two seemingly inexplicable things in the polygraph statement- her story she is telling publicly is that it was Kavanaugh who attacked her, and it occurred in the "early 80s". If she is telling the truth, then the statement for the polygraph should have had both Kavanaugh's name and the unredacted "early 80s", but she not only omits Kavanaugh's name, but actively edits her own writing on the general date. At first, I couldn't explain this, but then someone reminded me of the therapist's notes and suddenly it is possible to make sense of this odd behavior. I have been working on the assumption that her entire story is a fabrication beginning to end, but if you give her the benefit of the doubt and accept the therapist's notes as a true depiction of Ford's assault, then you realize that she wrote the polygraph statement that way because it was the literal truth, but if she names Kavanaugh and keeps "early" next to 80s, then suddenly the statement isn't the truth, but is, in fact, a lie, and she was afraid she would fail the exam if she had to attest to that.

I defy you to come up with a better explanation for that polygraph statement- I can't think of one. In my next comment, I will address the 1982 part.

Yancey Ward said...

When Ford first wrote to Eshoo and Feinstein, she was generic with the date- early 80s, but later settled, by Thursday, with Summer of 1982, thereabouts. How did she settle on 1982? In her testimony, under cross from Mitchell, Ford highlights the encounter with Judge "6-8 weeks later" at Safeway where he allegedly couldn't look at her. This all sound plausible, but Ford uses it to pin the year of the assault down to 1982 6-8 weeks before she saw Judge working at the Safeway- she makes a point of this in her answers to Mitchell. Someone quoted a part of Judge's book where he describes working part of the Summer of 1982 (he points out it was the Summer before his senior year) to pay for football camp at a local supermarket. In other words, Ford could easily have constructed this story from Judge's book.

You might think this is nothing, but there is one other thing about Ford's story that hasn't made any sense with the date 1982. She testified that the first 4 years were the toughest- specifically, her college years. These parts of the story don't cohere with an attack in 1982, but does cohere if it was an attack in 1984.

In summary, if you give Ford credit for telling the truth about being attacked, and that the therapist accurately reported this story in 2012, a lot of the confusing issues from Ford's testimony and her documentation suddenly makes a lot more sense, but then you realize she is likely a pathological liar and has deliberately libeled and slandered Kavanaugh. If I am right, Ford is a cunning liar.

A lying bitch said something happened sometime in the summer of 1982 or 1983. And it happened at some house. And she didn't know how she got there. Or how she got home. And all the people she said were there said nothing like that happened.

No, the woman just flung out an obvious lie and only odious losers like you latch onto it.

But keep up the good work.

Every decent male out there knows leftists like you will vote for rapists like Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton all their life and jump to destroy good men just to gain political power.

You made 10 new republican voters today easy. Good work you slobbering fool.

And this could also explain why she won't detail how she got home, or how she got to the party at which she was attacked- the answer to both questions is that she drove to and from the party herself- she had a license by 1984.

That inability to describe how she got to and from the party has bothered me all along, and it why I had assumed she was making up the entire story- she couldn't claim somebody drove her home because that would be another witness she would have to either not remember, or name and run the risk of being denied by that person today, and it would be harder to explain that denial because it would probably be a more unique detail that the witness might be expected to remember 36 years later- note how she dismisses the statement by Keyser- that it wasn't a memorable event from Keyser's point of view. That arguement would be harder to invoke in the case of the person driving her home if that was the story she told, so she keeps it simpler and denies remembering how she got home.

There was no rape allegation. And therefore no criminal allegation.

Somebody has not been paying attention.

@Yancey, what if the party was in her own home and she doesn’t want to admit it?

I see ritmo is outraged that we don't suspend the rule of law.
We have to believe this woman !!!
She can't remember where, when , or who but demands, like ritmo, that we take her seriously.

Christine Blasey Ford has two front doors, but only one backdoor. That fails the feng shui test even with her two front door knobs. The key question the committee failed to ask: Was Kavanaugh trying to enter her front door or her backdoor? Coming in the backdoor requires addition preparation and consent, and represents a painful new chapter in this circus.

In summary, if you give Ford credit for telling the truth about being attacked,

I have been giving her credit for recovered memory in therapy for alcoholism.

The house remodel is a lie. The point about her using Judge's book to fix a date is a good one.

It's been a while since I read a lot about recovered memories but the day care kids invented details that were not real, like wounds with no scars and tunnels under the McMartin preschool.

Laslo's riff about not coming up with new details on the plane flight is funny but probably also true.

@Yancey, alternatively an entitled young woman like young Christine Blasey might very well have driven to a party and driven home drunk on just a learner’s permit. Daddy can always fix it if something goes wrong.

You have to have lived in the Washington metropolitan area to appreciate how damned rich many of its residents are, how damned privileged their kids are. These days Montgomery County, where the Blasey and Kavanaugh families live, is still well to do, with (per Wikipedia) median has slipped down to 17th richest county in the United States, with a median household income just a tick under $100,000. It’s eclipsed by #1, the Virginia suburb of Loudoun County where the median household income is $134,000. Counties that are bedroom communities for Washington, DC, occupy 4 of the top 6 and 7 of the top 20.

Back in the early 1980s Montgomery was on top, and the Washington Post never printed the words “Montgomery County” without sticking the word “affluent” in front. Althouse is so caught up in her jealousy of the Kavanaugh family that she overlooks how even more wealthy and privileged the Blaseys are.

The nonsense about not being able to goto private school was a bit of a tell.

You know, I scrolled back through the comments to see if I missed any good points and it is apparent how poisoned this blog is by Ritmo. If there are 200 comments, he will post 100 of them, one right after the other,

I'd post far fewer of them, if you and your but buddies didn't post so many easily disproven falsehoods and nonsense and shoddy reasoned emotional bullcrap so much of the time.

So I've got my work cut out for me. You never refute a single thing I say.

Tell us again about Craig Venter's "discovery of the human genome." LOL!

Oh, I'm sorry. Was reminding you of that a form of "poison?"

Pussy. Just admit when you're wrong.
