At the Monday Night Cafe...

... maybe there’s still something left to talk about that hasn’t come up yet.

Elizabethtown, NC, got 36 inches of rain. Fortunately, most of it's on high ground right next to the Cape Fear.

How about talking about this -- Christian Yelich (Milwaukee Brewer) hitting for the cycle for the 2nd time this year. WOO HOO!

We haven’t talked about BYU’s trick play, the halfback pass. They named it Buckey, back in summer when they planned and practiced it.

I mentioned it in another thread.

But, yur wrong about the name. They call it "soaking."

I see Lonesome Joe Biden has decided to top Hillary Inton. She only called Trump’s supporters “a basket of deplorable.” Joe says Trump supporters are the dregs of society. Time to make some ads to get turnout up for Republicans candidates.

Arashi said...

So, am I a 'deplorable dreg of society' or a 'dreg of deplorable society'? Is there a difference?

I only have two degrees, so I probably am not smart enough to figure out - can someone help elucidate?

Apropos the other thread: I am pleased that Althouse kicked a bad habit -- the habit of starting some semi-indignant argument by saying, "I can't believe . . ."

On the topic of things that will help turn out Trump voters:

Taco Bell employee refuses to help client who doesn’t speak Spanish

If this story keeps going viral, it will probably move the needle more than Biden calling people dregs or Democratic skulduggery on Kavanaugh. When the Spanish speakers start discriminating against people for speaking English, as if that's unacceptable, and the victims happen to be black ... that's more people being peeled off the left's coalition toward Trump.

So with this Kavanaugh thing and Christine whomever accusing him...and the Dems allowing it...exactly how many men are going to be left in the Democratic party by midterms?

The packer-Viking score (29-29) is unique in the history of the nfl. Meanwhile, in college football, in 1968 Harvard and Yale played to a 29-29 tie. Harvard scored 16 pts in the final 42 seconds, prompting the famous headline in the Harvard Crimson -- "Harvard Beats Yale 29-29"

GDP Now 4.4 perecent

Industrial production rose more than expected in August and is up over 5% in the past year- the fastest pace since 2010.

Despite the stronger than expected average hourly earnings released two weeks ago, CPI and PPI reported last week were lower than expected.

Despite tariff related headlines, equities climbed higher and in-line with guidance and commentary from Q2 earnings season. (US Trust)

Meanwhile, those places lefties want us to copy can’t get out of their own way, with growth still sluggish in Europe and emerging markets.

The remnants of Florence move through my area today. Call me crazy but I enjoy the occasional rainy day.

In other news, my Red Sox are one win away from clinching the American League East division title. With 103 wins and 12 to play the odds are they will break the franchise record for wins in a season (105), unless they decide to rest key players.

What if Brett Kavanaugh was out of town most of that summer? What if he was at football and basketball camps? What if he was working in another city?

Ford has no idea what she is in for. The MSM is warning Senators to go easy on her. No way.

According to anti-Spitter on the preceding thread, you've been conned. (Why you can't debate a leftie.)

I don't know what kind of work anti-Spitter is in (LOL) but in my career I can't recall more indicators of growth looking so positive. It's the type of activity that leads to higher standards of living- the type people felt was missing all of the last decade...and all of it is coming in the face of 1- an economic decoupling with the rest of the world, which is still facing sluggish stagnation, and 2- what is supposed to be an inappropriate trade war begun by a madman...or an idiot (I forget which he is this week). Equity markets say emphatically the US is winning.

Did anyone know the Emmy awards were on last night? Me either. Recaps are saying the show was bad as per usual BUT there was little Trump bashing. Perhaps they are all preparing for #DoMeNextMeeToo or perhaps the childish ranting has reached the top line and it's not pretty....

Just worked the Fiji Islands. 3d2ag. That's a little amazement that happens from time to time, with a 15 watt transmitter by the computer mouse.

With a bigger setup the amazement would disappear and it would be a get-those-countries chore.

Band conditions (40m) do have to be favorable, so there's still that rarity.

"On Real Time with Bill Maher last week, movie star Jim Carrey emphatically said, 'We have to say yes to socialism, to the word and everything....We have to stop apologizing.'"

That's from Reason Magazine - a Libertarian magazine, though Michael K is sure I wouldn't be able to discern that. I do know that because, in my estimation, only Libertarians take seriously what anti-vaccine cranks, like Carrey, say on other anti-vaccine crank's talk shows. As a matter of fact, if they really took them seriously, they'd use their anti-vaxx positions against them and eliminate them as a political threat, but, of course, that's too logical for Libertarians because they're all insane and don't really care about socialism.

They just like talking about it.

If I'm reading history correctly, blacks fell in with communists because - even as late as the 1930s - white Americans, generally, still were racist to blacks - making the commies our only option.

Today, whites demand blacks give up communist affiliation - without whites giving up the attitudes, generally, that drove blacks to the commies in the first place.

White people are a hoot.

That's a big theme in Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man. But he wrote about the betrayal of blacks by the communists.

I don't know what that "but" means to you, but it means blacks have no one to trust in America.

The Crack Emcee said...

Commies on one side, racists on the other, all fighting over the only folks in America with no past, trying to make a future.

That's a fucked-up situation.

I'm not following the Kavanaugh accuser story in great detail, and have only skimmed the comments here at Althouse,  because there's only so much stupid I can take in my life. What I mean  by that is, are sensible people really saying that we are going to judge a grown person by things they did as teenagers? Are we next going to judge potential Supreme Court appointees based on their potty training? By just how terrible their "terrible twos" were?

Althouse herself says that she doesn't trust people who are portrayed as being super virtuous. But going down this path and saying it's ok to judge highly accomplished, sucessful adults based on their antics as minors means that we will only ever have candidates who have been squeaky clean their entire lives*.  How many people fall into that category?

Normal, sensible people think this is more proof that we need to #walkaway from the increasingly silly Democratic Party.
_________
*Well maybe this only applies to  Republicans, since we're all aware of the double standard that says democrats can leave women to drown and get a pass. Ironically for the Democrats this double standard is the reason why we got Trump. Dems really need to rethink their tactics because  the fact that "grab them by the pussy" Trump won is proof that average Americans -- which  includes many women-- are increasingly sick of their shit.
