"... she was positioning herself at the forefront of those condemning Mr. Weinstein, despite the fact that her sexual relationship with Mr. Weinstein was between two consenting adults which lasted for more than four years... The sheer duplicity of her conduct is quite extraordinary and should demonstrate to everyone how poorly the allegations against Mr. Weinstein were actually vetted and accordingly, cause all of us to pause and allow due process to prevail, not condemnation by fundamental dishonesty."
Said Harvey Weinstein's lawyer, quoted in "Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer slams Asia Argento’s ‘stunning level of hypocrisy’" (NY Post).

That's not bad from his lawyer.
But he should hire a publicist for stuff like that.
It's not going to work though. Too many people have already made up their mind.
Harvey Weinstein's lawyer: "Squirrel!"
This is like giving a pass to Hannibal Lector for the people he didn't eat.
Who's on trial?
We want a porno-mainstream society
and a Victorian approach to political correctness
I'm sure they never expected it to "work", in the sense that it would sway popular opinion towards Weinstein. You could hire 20 publicists and you wouldn't accomplish that.
The target is just the small percentage of people who can maybe be made to newly realize that everything is not always as it seems, and that Weinstein - however disgusting he may be - is entitled to a fair trial before he loses his freedom or money.
There is the concept of "passing it on," ie, your life is made miserable by your drunk, alcoholic father, so .... you grow up to be an alcoholic and make life miserable for your wife and kids.
Maybe, she was wrecked by Harvey Weinstein's sexual assault, and, because she's stupid, inadvertently set out to wreck someone subordinate to her.
Hey, I should become a psychiatrist!
When he's right, he's right.
Argento's bad behavior does not excuse Weinstein's.

As Glen Reynolds repeatedly says, "Teach women not to rape." I've not figured out what's going on with female teachers aged say 22 to 46 who molest young boys.
Pretty soon we'll start hearing about Weinstein's horrible childhood.
Or will they save it for the trial?
Argento is Weinstein’s silver lining.
So I'm watching right now -- might as well put this comment here -- so I'm watching an episode of MASH where Hawkeye once again is egregiously sexually harassing four women in a row. How is this pretentious, smug, sanctimonious exercise in leftism still on the air??
And now we have one nurse who is all angry because Hawkeye was NOT sexually harassing and objectifying her.
Will there be a TV movie? Just asking..............
What are Argento’s allegations against Weinstein? He’s saying a consensual four-year relationship. What is she saying?
Burn, Hollywood, Burn.
show-folk. what would you expect?
I don't like Weinstein. And now, I don't like Argento either.
Given the circumstances surrounding her seduction of the minor, she must have screwed up the kid in a lot of primitive ways. You just can't do that. Same thing with a priest seducing a kid. You're crossing too many wires........Hollywood and the Catholic Church have this in common: they just don't have any idea how bad their miscreants have damaged their reputation and how sickly their moral pronouncements now sound........This adds an extra layer to the schadenfreude. Post modern schadenfreude with some Freudian top spin.
That lowers her moral high ground a few thousand feet.

Vizzini: A word, my lady. We are but poor, lost circus performers. Is there a village nearby?
Buttercup: There is nothing nearby... Not for miles.
Vizzini: Then there will be no one to hear you scream.
Weinstein is a repulsive pig and deserves what is coming his way. But no one should be surprised that some accusers are dirty too. It's Hollywood. May they all be held accountable.
So Argento will not get a share of the loot.
Maybe, Harvey should pay Argento $380K and we can all call it a day.
So #MeToo really means: I agreed to a sexual transaction, then stayed in a useful relationship, then bitched about it afterwards, when it was convenient cover.
So is this exposure Bourdain's revenge?

Yes we do. We know all too well. In fact, we have a word for it -- "scandal" -- which rightly understood means leading others away from the good because of the bad example. And we have the severe warning of Jesus to avoid any scandal -- that it would be better to have a millstone around one's neck and tossed into the sea than to cause scandal, that is, to damage the reputation of the faith, the Church and her teachings, the Gospel, and/or Christ Himself, so as to cause people to fall away.
It's all whatever appeals to women. Clicks, traffic, hysteria.
Didn't Alice say something along the lines of "Well! They were both horrible people!" or something like that about the Walrus and the Carpenter? Seems appropriate here.
Two sleazy scorpions in a bottle. Go scorps! I hope you both lose.
You won't often go wrong if you remember that people are often guilty of the thing they accuse you of doing.
If I were prosecuting a case against Weinstein, she's a witness I wouldn't use. I suppose I have plenty more.
But I think I'd want to be sure that Argento was also prosecuted, or that there was a damn good reason she wasn't.
Do you disagree?
Her dad made some cool horror movies.
Confused said...You won't often go wrong if you remember that people are often guilty of the thing they accuse you of doing.
For example, accusing others of foreign meddling in elections.
Four years with that fat ugly SOB! What is up with women and money? It's gross.
The dude is so nasty looking that I could believe that every time he got laid it was rape, but I'd be very wrong. Some actually choose to have that thing climbing all over them. It's like a horror film, if you ask me. How much do you really want that money? There are so many other ways to make it. Does he keep barf bags next to the bed?
It's borderline beastiality.
Her tattoo art suggests she’s damaged.
The only course left, is for the rapist to kill herself on Trump's Hollywood star.

Remember the last time reports of child rape came out about the Catholic Church years ago? Over a couple dozen accusations? I do.
Media smashed them incessantly for days. 24/7 coverage.
Reports come out about hundreds of victims and institutional coverup now?
Nothing.
As long as the pope is a good globalist and pushes socialism and open borders they get a pass.
The Catholic Church is on the side of evil now. As an institution it is a net negative to the world like the public education system in the US.
Argento's bad behavior does not excuse Weinstein's.
No, but it speaks to her character and credibility.

This is shorthand to disregard her testimony.
Even whores can be raped. Even bullies can be abused.
The only objective 'rule of law' way to deal with this is have Weinstein be punished for his crimes and Asia be punished for hers.
This statement is not about defending Weinstein as it is to forestall Feminist special pleading because 'she's a girl/victim'
Because one can also be an abuse victim AND an abuser.
She clearly is.
This is shorthand to disregard her testimony.
Okay, I'll admit it. This makes me question how many of the allegations are true, and how many are coming from bandwagon riders.
Then let me join you! I do NOT think we should just 'believe all women' for that very point!
I happen to think he's guilty.
But it has to be PROVEN in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
Same as her. Same as Trump. Same as anyone else.
And yes, I have the exact same doubts as to the veracity and quality of the accusers. I would like their testimony vetted for accuracy and truth.
Which group does NOT like their accusers vetted for accuracy and truth? Hmm!
We have to be BETTER than them while still shoving their rules up their asses.
amended.
'I would like their testimony vetted...' should read "I INSIST their testimony be vetted".
Because one day that man they try to rush into judgment might be someone I know or my son.
So we need to examine ALL testimony.
@Mark: Alan Alda gets a pass for vile behavior because he mouths off so much about conservatives. It is the oldest game in the New Testament of leftism.
Obama gets a pass for his involvement with terrorist bombers and cop killers Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn and lying about that involvement (8 years of dinner together several nights a week, not "some guy in the neighborhood") because he is a leftist and offered the promise of a black presidency. Furthermore, Ayers and Dohrn were sexual predators -- there is documentarion that they both sexually abused people, and even their colleagues speak in their memoirs of disturbing behavior by the two. so how do Democrats square this?
Finally, Hollywood actors and directors, probably including Robert Redford, helped Ayers and Dohrn escape from the law after cop murders and bombings, including the failed plot to murder hundreds of soldiers and their girlfriends at a dance in New Jersey, a plot that failed when the killers blew themselves up in a townhouse next to Dustin Hoffman's townhouse. When are they all going to be held accountable for their behavior? The coverup for these scum resembles the coverup by Catholic hierarchy. We could use a few grand juries on these issues.

Depends on where you live. Here in Pennsylvania where the recent report was issued, there has been wall to wall coverage. Legislators are all talking about extending the statute of limitations.
It has also been noticed that the state AG Josh Shapiro who issued the report is playing it up for all it is worth. Notwithstanding that the investigation was actually started by his predecessor, it is clear that he thinks he can ride this issue to the Governor's mansion. See for example, this spot-on commentary:
https://www.pennlive.com/opinion/2018/08/shapiros_slickly_managed_press.html
I'll know the Pennsylvania report has traction when I see a similar investigation everywhere else in the good old USA.
Yeah, we've been saying this all alone. Weinstein was a predator, but that doesn't mean the ladies' stories are very credible. Hollywood is an awful place, and the ladies were willing to be part of it in order to get a career, which is all they mostly cared about.
It's going to be hard to try Weinstein for things like rape. That was always obvious.
Still missing the Rose McGowan tag. Unless she is subsumed under #Hypocrisy. Her reaction: be gentle to Argento.
Yes, covering up sexual abuse is not particular to the Roman Catholic church. It sure would be nice if AG Shapiro would investigate the public school teachers and their unions covering up sexual abuse by teachers--oh, wait, we can't risk alienating our donors. The hypocrisy goes round and round.
Speaking of due process, you have to amend that July post about Weinstein's interview with Taki, who has disavowed the quote you highlighted.
Jeffrey Dahmer outing Son of Sam clears neither.
Amazing how many lawyers don't know when to just shut up. There's no need to answer this; it doesn't help even if you're right.
