New, improved Trump tweeting — now, shorter than ever.

ADDED: The new, totally terse tweet came a few after this series of tweets, which I'm reprinting to give you a more fleshed out view of our President's public display over yesterday's voting:

1. "5 for 5!"

2. "The Republicans have now won 8 out of 9 House Seats, yet if you listen to the Fake News Media you would think we are being clobbered. Why can’t they play it straight, so unfair to the Republican Party and in particular, your favorite President!"

3. "As long as I campaign and/or support Senate and House candidates (within reason), they will win! I LOVE the people, & they certainly seem to like the job I’m doing. If I find the time, in between China, Iran, the Economy and much more, which I must, we will have a giant Red Wave!"

4. "Congratulations to @LenaEpstein of Michigan on a job well done. Also, thanks for your great support!"

Striking photograph of Epstein at her Twitter page:

She won the GOP primary in Michigan's 11th District. The Detroit Free Press has this:
Epstein was all but unknown in political circles before 2016, when she helped to engineer President Trump's successful Michigan campaign, the first won by a Republican presidential nominee in the state since 1988...

"Lena definitely ran as the Trump candidate. Others (in the Republican field) attempted to but didn't have the natural connection," said Republican consultant John Truscott..... Truscott said that while the 11th district has traditionally been Republican, it only marginally backed Trump in 2016...

Well, most of the really hot young women in politics tend to be Republicans, for some reason. The vast majority of leftist women involved in politics would make Don Juan turn gay.

That doesn't include Hollywood whores, who as far as I can tell are liberal because if they aren't, they will lose their job. More of that famous liberal tolerance, after all.

I cannot believe how, after they just got burned for gloating about how they were going to abolish the filibuster for supreme court justices at the first sign of Republican opposition to Clinton's nominees, Democrats' supporters are now twirling their moustaches about how they're going to pack the supreme court as soon as people let them have power again. They can't help themselves!

Lena was running in the U.S. Senate primary. Then Dave Trott quit (announced he would not run again) and Lena jumped into this race.

I'm not sure, but she may have outspent the rest of the field combined, to get her 31% plurality.

I am astonished at the winner of the Dems' primary. Haley Stevens (never heard of her before this year) beat a respected mainstream Democrat, Tim Greimel, who is the State House Minority Leader. I thought the Dems could win this district (R+4) with Greimel. But that's not going to happen now. I think they just made it easier for Epstein.

This is going to be one of the best Congressional races to watch in the entire country. This one is a perfect bellwether for control of Congress. Watch what happens in MI-11. If Lena Epstein loses, that is a cataclysm for Republicans. Because (a) this is a perfect example of a Midwestern suburban swing district; (b) it tilts mildly Republican, and should be won by any competent Republican; (c) Lena Epstein is a true Trump believer and will rise or fall with Trump.

Franklin Hills Country Club. The A-Number-One-Top-of-the-Heap Jewish Country Club in all of Michigan. A supremely fine, very private club; with one of the very best Donald Ross golf courses in the Midwest. Routinely rated as the best hidden gem in the state. (Very, very little guest play.) Max Fisher (Ohio State University Fisher College of Business) was a member with a home on the course.

The idea was to raise some family/Jewish money for Lena. And it wasn't, and wouldn't be, the only political fundraiser catered at FHCC. That the club scheduled it, and then canceled it, was a terrible move. They should have avoided scheduling it if anybody felt it might be a problem, or they should have kept it on the schedule once they decided to accept the catering engagement. It was a rare case of terrible, incompetent management by FHCC. But it shows how deeply divisive Trump is, among country club Republicans and even Jewish country club Republicans.

How about “Does things girls like to do with her girlfriends instead of insisting on dragging him along.” That would be a start. Would that be sexist to expect?

“Doesn’t complain when he does stuff guys like to do with the guys once in a while.” Is that sexist to expect?

“Respects the work he does around the house, yard work, car maintenance, etc without discounting it to zero because if he doesn’t hate doing it, he must be having fun.” Is that a sexist thing to expect?

“Enjoys sex with him and regularly partakes.” Is that a sexist thing to expect?

Nothing about “trained” here. Maybe you think the Stepford Wives was a male fantasy, not male bashing.

"But it shows how deeply divisive Trump is, among country club Republicans and even Jewish country club Republicans."

But why? Trump has mostly governed like a conservative Republican, and he is strongly pro-Israel.

Only the tariffs deviate from GOP orthodoxy, and even they, for now, are mostly tools in fight. Russia is a mixed bag: bad optics at Helsinki, mostly sensible actions where it mattered. Sure, you could complain about high spending--but few Republicans in power have taken that seriously, so it would be unfair to criticize Trump for it.

Of course, he is brash and rude. Some people might take offense and vote to express their good taste.

But a vote against the Trump-supported candidate would result in policies much worse from a Republican point of view. So country-club Republicans who oppose Trump are dividing themselves from the Republican alternative. Doesn't seem rational--if, in fact, they prefer the more Republican alternative.

VANITY FAIR
"How Donald Trump Beat Palm Beach Society and Won the Fight for Mar-a-Lago"

"This was the genteel and closed world of private clubs in Palm Beach prior to the arrival of Donald Trump. Ironically, because of their tight restrictions and penchant for keeping people out, they became the Achilles’ heel that enabled Trump to alter the exclusionary culture of Palm Beach forever.

Getting nowhere with the Town Council on his Mar-a-Lago subdivision proposal, Trump needed a “fix-it person,” says Richard Rampell, the head of a prominent local accounting firm and the brother of the attorney who would help clear the way for Trump into Palm Beach, Paul Rampell. “So Trump meets with my brother, and my brother comes up with an idea to convert Mar-a-Lago into a private club that is open to everyone,” Richard Rampell tells me. At the time, Palm Beach’s Waspy private clubs had what he calls an open secret: as Trump claimed, they didn’t admit Jews or African-Americans.

With the specter of his lawsuit still hanging over the council, it voted 4--1 to approve Trump’s plan, and those who couldn’t, or wouldn’t, become members of the other clubs now had a club of their own."

Need I say it?

I will anyway: Just like Hitler.

It did lead to a subsequent post about Van M (yey yey), but more importantly (to self absorbed me) was some guy told me I was a foolish wank or some such. Probably sorta true.

In any case who knows why this time is filled with such bitterness and reproach. Maybe things will improve towards social civility rather than more snark and contempt with that new NYT editor hire. I noticed the Althouse post that got the most comments today descended into that subject quickly. Likely there was a lot of good faith discourse and well reasoned nods about who, whom and it's different when we do it and whataboutism and framing of the proper contextual analysis etc etc etc worlds without end

I do apologize in that I tried to add a little "quip" about rhhardin's ways - god love him - and renowned high standards (has there ever been a non- Hathaway film he didn't bail on halfway through?) which was taken the wrong way by Tim in Vt.

We live in a world of half baked thoughts. Maybe it was always so, only now it is on the interwebs. A world where the Prime Minister of Canada sends out a tweet to reprimand the Saudis and boom it leads to immediate trade repercussions. Identified contempt and smugness and thin skinnedness all around it appears. The showiness of tactics without seeming long-term strategic thought.

Some might say Trudeau was trying to imitate Trump. If so, why on this point, and why done this way? Where I live, the people that (generally) defend Trudeau have (generally) expressed open disgust with Trump.

Meanwhile in BC the statue levellers are pulling down a statue of the country's first Prime Minister with their Mayors support because the statue makes an identified cohort of indigenous people uncomfortable. If I was a snarky Saudi prince, hmmmm, I know what I would tweet back to Ottawa to set the cat among the pigeons.

You know that old joke? I've told that old one a thousand times. It is supposedly a true story.

Sammy Davis Jr. was playing golf with his Rat Pack buddies. Sammy was not a good golfer, and did not have an established handicap with the USGA. Dean Martin was a good golfer. (A 6 handicap at one time, and he played to it.) Frank Sinatra was an aspiring golfer; he had a handicap of some number but was not really good.

On the first tee, as they were trying to make a game and lay down some bets, somebody asked Sammy what his handicap was. Sammy said, "I'm a one-eyed Jewish black man. That's my handicap."
