An excellent press conference — Donald Trump and Theresa May.

I understand that only MSNBC showed a split screen during the presser, giving the 'protests' equal coverage.

mockturtle said...

It was interesting to note that both the President and the PM treated the press with the levity they deserved.

I would t have mentioned sharing intelligence.

MI6 is in deep doodoo trying to take down a candidate for president.

Seeing Red said...

May needs this more than Trump.

Seeing Red said...

Spending 24 Billion pounds on US materiel.

This is probably the best chance of an actual free trade agreement.

Very unlikely it seems.

Sounds like Theresa has a new dance partner.

Seeing Red said...

Bam bam bam

Unfair spending is unfair.

Trump's an alpha male and a very stable genius, we're lucky.

Acosta: I have a question.

Trump: CNN fake news, no questions.

Tank: Best President ever.

Funny how this bumbling fool just keeps winning and winning.

320Busdriver said...

Soooo flamed were nbc and CNN.....the very fake news

Seeing Red said...

He also laid out the terms for his meeting with Pooty-Poot and trashed W and Obama.

So much WINNING!

Seeing Red said...

Trump is a liar he said we’d be tired of winning.

Not yet!

Seeing Red said...

Theresa needs this dance partner.

Via Insty:

The State Department has, since the Obama administration was in office, been hiding a key report believed to expose the number of Palestinian refugees as far smaller than the U.N. and other have claimed for decades. The public release of this information could alter how the United States provides funding for Palestinian refugees....

Take the deal.

Isn’t it remarkable, to listen to a UK politician (could be from any party) speaking in clear English? Using complete sentences and a meaningful, intelligent vocabulary? Compared to Trump.

I can smell a Never Trumper a mile away.

rcocean said...

I don't know if the UK politicians are better than Americans but they certainly are more articulate.

Every PM since Churchill has been smarter than his US Counterpart. The only exception would be Clinton Blair and whoever the PM was during Nixon's time.

Style is so much more important than Substance.

rcocean said...

Trump has a different talking style that's deliberately full of hyperbole.

He got a smile out of May by describing their relationship as "Beyond Special"

The Press seemed to be behaving better than usual. None of the braying jackassery we usually get.

When Nixon took office the Brit PM was Harold Wilson, who had such a brilliant academic career at Oxford that he was made an Oxford Don at 21. Very smart.

John Major, who became PM during Bush '41 term, left school at 16 with 3 O Levels (I had 10, which was fairly typical of children staying on in school). Not that smart.

Theresa May is a dead woman walking. She should have stepped down after her disastrous call for a snap election that resulted in the Conservatives losing seats in Parliament and forcing her into a coalition government with the DUP. Since then, May's negotiating of a so called "soft Brexit" (May, like former PM Cameron was fanatically pro-EU), has resulted in the resignation of David Davis, the Secretary of State for Brexit, and more recently Foreign Affairs Secretary Boris Johnson. Nonetheless, Trump erred in stepping into British politics in a totally inappropriate way by criticizing May's handling of Brexit and talking about Johnson as a future PM. Press conference kabuki does not make up for that.

Interesting to see that Class is still being judged by speech usage 113 years after GBS wrote Pygmalion. Will that rude Trump man ever master the correct accent like Liza Doolittle did??

mockturtle said...

Sadly, you are right, Farmers. Tact is not a Trump strong point.

The Professor has it right that what we watched was a near perfect press conference used as a teachable moment for Europe and America. And millions of people hung on their every word because of the highlights of yesterday's Trump interview with The Sun. That filled the house. Then he educated them all.

I almost feel sorry for the Fake News guys going up against Trump. It is like watching the Harlem Globe Trotters tour. And Meadowlark Trump dribbles in circles arond the Narratives and makes trick shot after trick shot.

Trump is so much more intelligent than you are Chuck that you can’t even see the difference.

Mr. Groovington said...

There were displays of his personal weaknesses there that Teresa May would never make, no balanced personality would. Trump can’t leave himself out of it. I’m not sure if he’s a shameless self-promoter or insecure or both, either way he talks shit sometimes. But he has America first, and is working through his list of promises as best as he can.

I have a lefty streak saying the high water mark of an honorable society is taking care of those who can’t take care of themselves. The left can’t walk the talk, I gave them 40+ years to show me one example, it never came, so fuck it. That presser was awesome. For his second term he needs to go further left and do what the liberal liars, kleptocrats and hypocrites, can’t do.

The skill-set to become Prime Minister in a Parliamentary System requires a gift for a certain kind of Bafflegab. Blair and Thatcher had it in spades, May a bit less so.

Howard said...

Gotta agree with Achilles that Chuck is completely clueless. Trump keeps it simple and repeats himself often because he knows how to grab the attention of the masses and effectively communicate his ideas to them. Most politicians speak directly to the press and their peers with little thought to Ma and Pa Kettle.

Too Smart By Half, AKA Too clever by half. (idiomatic, of a person, plan, theory, etc.) Shrewd but flawed by overthinking or excessive complexity, with a resulting tendency to be unreliable or unsuccessful. (Wiktionary)

See: Bill Kristol, Jonah Goldberg, Bret Stephens, Morning Mika Bershinskeeee

Funny how the smelly WalMart crowd, assorted hillbillies and the deplorables fully comprehend Trump.

I will gladly compare my vocabulary, reading list, and linguistic facility with Chuck's. When I graduated grade 8 I took a vocabulary test, and scored above the 99th percentile for college graduates. And I understand Trump just fine.

Speaking of intelligence, how 'bout that Cash for Clunkers program from the previous administration? Now there was an economic growth plan from the smartest (Columbia, Harvard Law) president ever.

Agree with Farmer 100%. Trump was out of line.

DanTheMan said...

>>Good to see the Queen has her handbag.

Chuck, are you going to just let this guy call you names like that?

rcocean said...

"Smarter or credentialed?"

Both. Again, despite someone bringing up PM Wilson's Education and intellect, I don't think he was smarter than Nixon. Because Tricky Dick, whatever his faults, was one of our smarter Presidents.

Of course, when I say "smarter" I mean IQ or being more articulate as opposed to "wise" or having the right policies.

You can see the same thing in the English vs. American Press. I've been following the Trump visit on BBC and in some of the better English papers. Good God, they're light years ahead of our Dumbo American reporters. Compare the BBC to NPR/PBS. What an embarrassment. Seriously. I think everyone at NPR/PBS is about 20 IQ points below the people at BBC.

rcocean said...

I suppose we should be happy that everyone at the WaPo Or NYT is so provincial and dumb compared to the Leftists at the BBC, Guardian, or London Times.

If they were better writers or smarter - they'd ruin the Country even faster.

Did anyone catch the video footage of the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker stumbling and losing his balance before the NATO dinner? It is amazing and kind of a metaphor for what is going on in Europe.

Take a look. The scene at 1:54 is great.

Merkel and May will be out of office by the end of the month.

If we are lucky the communist asshole Corbyn will be made Prime Minister and we can officially drop England. Perfidious Albion has long been an albatross. We have been carrying their poofter asses since World War Two. Enough is enough.

Baby's coming you Midwife pussies!

Howard is just being a typical liberal who pretends he doesn't understand simple shit.

I can't wait until the God Emperor calls Jim Acosta by his nickname. Fredo.

How many young English girls were raped by Muslims last night? How many grannies were knifed and robbed by Abdul on scooters? How many people died because they couldn't get treatment from the communists at the National Health?

England has made a choice. By electing people like the Mayor of London they elected to become a shit hole country. They are making the choice which is of course is their to make. We don't have to pull their chestnuts out of the fire this time.

Let them bow down to the Germans in EU. They deserve it.

The press conference was very enlightening and very entertaining. When I heard about the Sun article on GMA (ABC News) this morning I thought it was so bad the Queen was going to cancel tea with Trump. I guess that was what the Brits call “a tempest in a tea pot”.

BTW, the comments that accompanied the you tube of the press conference make the worst commenters here look like Solons by comparison.

The Donald and Theresa are not getting along all that badly, judging from her body language.
Watching Questions for the Prime Minister it is obvious that she does not like Labour, she dislikes the Liberal Democrats, and she detests the Scottish Nationalist Party (with good reason, I might add). I don't see any of that in her manner with Trump whatever their differences about policies might be.

I must say that this is clear and preposterous meddling by Mueller in the affairs of government. You may object to the notion of President Trump firing Mueller or attempting to control the direction of his investigation, but I think it would be reasonable to defer to the President to control timing of the publicity in such a case. I suppose Mueller or Rosenstein would never have warned the President let alone discussed it with him.

Sorry, readering, but no. Mike K and I were just hashing this out. Blowjobs don't create blood relations unless you have your ovaries in your throat.

But maybe you do. Linda Lovelace had her Grafenberg spot in her throat.

No, really, it's true. I saw it in a documentary.
