Now, I'm getting Ashley Madison ads!

Just now...

Was it because Oso Negro said "#useyourcooter"?

I had never seen that ad before today, but my commenters have been telling me for years that they've been getting Ashley Madison ads....

Meade uses a different computer. I'm the only one who ever uses this desktop.

They've branched out from ice cream.

I was going to suggest checking Meade browser history....

Who is Ashley Madison?

rehajm said...

I'd wager its all the Bill Clinton talk.

You are cool, Althouse! Someone should pick you up for a news show. "Cruelly Neutral". Well, usually. :)

I started getting ads for cars that my husband had been looking at. Different devices there, too. Just one datapoint.

Cookies, like hips, don't lie.

Learn to flirt, men! I think if one of my friends were to create a dating profile for me, one of the first words would be 'unprepossessing," but still flirting works wonders. Just say some of the things you are thinking!

If Althouse were to get ads based on items from her blog I would assume the ads would be from Transgender Dating Services.

I'm with Mockturtle. Who is Ashley Madison?

I don't get ads because I use two ad spam and social media tracking blockers.

I think that routers pick stuff up from other computers, with ISPs like Xfinity, and if you have DirecTV, the appliance spies and they serve ads on your TV. They have bragged about this in AdWeek.

Ann Althouse said...

I usually have an ad blocker on, but I paused it so I could read something that had a blocker blocker.

Ann Althouse said...

Normally the ads that show up for me are for shoes and clothing from retailers that I already like and use or retailers that they're reasonably guessing I might want to try.

Now, I'm getting a Planned Parenthood ad. I must have hit some "sexually active" switch in the algorithm. Maybe it was that NYT column about dominance and sadism that I blogged yesterday. I did use the word OKCupid a few times.

tim in vermont said...

It would be scary if they picked up on OkCupid and knew that you were married.

Oso Negro said...

@Tim in Vermont but Sometimes Florida - I bet you posted that for your girlfriend's benefit!

is it funny that EVERY reader jumped immediately to Meade used your computer? :)

I get ads for ad blockers.

I think Clinton will someday join that illustrious list of Democratic Presidents who are lo longer thought of as Democrats: Jefferson, Jackson, Wilson. The ranks of the fallen have been refurbished by Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt who are now considered Democrats by most thinking people.

Mockturtle and DBQ - A..M is a site for infidelity hook ups.

They had a hack a few years back that gave many guys and gals heart palpitations.

And just like that, Ann gets to spend some time living as a millennial :)

Thanks, Pete. I was afraid to Google it.

Rehoboth Beach has a shopping complex right on the main avenue which included a Hooters restaurant for many years...they never seemed to do very well and we always wondered what kind of market they would be serving in this family and gay-friendly town. Thankfully Hooters closed up last year and a new, more appropriate restaurant has taken its place---"Cooter Browns."

Maybe AM is just blanketing its core demographic: married people.

Yep. Me too. Thanks Pete

That ad does not look like it was targeted at women. Maybe they were hoping you would post it on your blog, and all the old, married guys who comment here would see it.

AI does lateral thinking.

Is AshMad open to professional porn stars like Stormy Daniels? I don't mean to demonize her, but I wouldn't mind taking her bowling, sharing a few Budweisers with her and then pursuing my way with her.

Underneath all that make-up and silicon implants surely lies a heart of gold.

Virgil Hilts said...

I sometimes get the AM ad here, but have never seen it anywhere else. I am impressed that people here are savvy enough not to actually type out the words. I suspect the title of this post is not going to decrease the reappearance of the ad.

Stormy Daniels is performing at a strip club in Middleton this weekend, so maybe that's why.

Thanks, Pete. I was afraid to Google it.

I use ad-blocking and vpn, and I was still nervous about googling it.

The AM ad I usually get here is of a brunette in a skin tight, fire engine red dress.

It's a show stopper.

Speaking of half-naked girls. I noticed this auction item from a farmer "hoarder" that accidentally killed himself on his farm. He was born in 52 so is about my age.

I was thinking that the girl plucking the chicken was not quite the age of majority.

It's a little shocking that what used to be classic naked, is now pornographic, but I think this one might be child porn. It's hard to tell her age.

The Chicken Plucker

Other than that comment, I think it is pretty good art.

Etienne said...

Comment below the art work:

"You are bidding on a poster that Allan bought at a swap meet. He just loved it. Linda wouldn’t let him hang it in the living room..."

Milwaukie Guy said...

I think the chicken plucker is above the age of consent in certain states, or used to be.

Rabel said...

Althouse, if you click on the arrow next to the x at the top of the ad it will tell you why Google sent you that ad.

I toggled Adblockplus off and on three times (with a page refresh between toggles) and got three different PP ads. The stated reason was that I had visited their website or app. That is not true as far as I know.

Also, if I wanted to visit Ashley Madison on the sly and not get caught I'd do it on the wife's computer. Just saying, as they say.
