2 contestants were cut last night. I only liked 2 of the remaining 5 and predicted both would be cut. But one survived:

You have to endure so much loud, show-offy belting to put up with the show. It's amazing that someone with restraint, taste, and quiet charm made it to the end.

Baby woke up. So I and the wife woke up. Everyone else is back asleep. Now I am watching American Idol clips at 4 in the morning.
I couldn’t quite finish them all.
If one of them could make me some food I would be happy. Probably not vote for them because I am too lazy to vote but I would have some food.
I have never watched an American Idol show but I've seen a few clips. Great song; great performance.
I just watched a few videos of Maddie on youtube, including her telling of a story of a breakup. She is engaging and natural - she is a nice midwestern girl. Nice voice, hardworking and down to earth. I hope she goes far and doesn't get ruined.
She beat Kermit in the audition, but Beach Boys did that one perfectly. It is encouraging, though.
Maddie is a winner in every critera. Her parents can be proud. Heck, the Creator God must be proud.

"God Only Knows" is a sublime. When the group came through our area and percormed at the St Augustine amphitheater they projected Carl onto a huge screen behind them and sang along with him. What a wonderful use of modern musical technology. One of my top five favorite songs too.

Agree. Her vocals were lovely but the instrumentals and harmony didn't round it out enough IMO.
I thought Maddie sounded high when she started God Only Knows. I guess that's her style or something. But it sounded a bit off. When she got to God Only Knows in the song, something clicked and she went to sounding normal.
I was laughing at the commercials. They were all for cancer drugs, seemingly. So I guess we know the audience of Idol now.
I thought all of the 5 were pretty good singers. The rocker did well to follow Carrie's advice to tone it down a notch or three. The black kid has mannerisms that bug me, but oh man can he take it to church when he sings.
The Muppet Show was a big deal at my college eating house. A future dentist, who did amazing glass enamel on copper work, made our homecoming queen candidate a Kermit medallion to wear. Another candidate said, "Look at that girl, she's wearing a frog!"
That sorta country twang might get old in a 2 hour concert, but it's hands down better than melisma, the wiggling I can't abide, and oversinging, which gets old quicker.

That is the most lady-like thing I have seen you say on this blog. That sounds just like my wonderful mother.
She's good. She strikes me as one of those Idol contestants that will be amazing with her own songs.
This reminds me of the movie, Love and Mercy, which is one of my favorites. Probably my favorite movie about a musician. I'm going to watch it again.
My wife was thrilled that Maddie made the cut. The problem is that "the other blonde" also made the cut. The prediction is that the two young women will split the vote for that demographic and the young man will win the competition. That wouldn't be a bad outcome. He, too, has shown restraint, taste, charm, and self-deprecating humor throughout the competition. (This is all according to my wife. I've not been paying much attention.)
God I hate those eyebrows. They're everywhere now, especially on the Hispanic girls where I live.
The 2004 interview is so interesting! I was reflecting on your observation that your opinions on feminism have fluctuated over time. Mine have as well and they still are changing, and not in any linear way.
That led me to think that there is a difference between some theories/doctrines:
* How often one is likely to change one's position within a particular doctrinal space (pro, anti, other) over decades
I don't think the answer to that question is about the personality of the person whose position is changing. Rather, I think it says something about the doctrinal space. I'm just not sure what it says.
She is a bit pitchy at times, like she is singing a bit out of her natural range.

The persona of indy ingenue singer doesn't work for me.
I listened too about half of the song. She was flat a lot of the time, she missed notes and her phrasing was terrible. I hate to think what the people who lost were like.
My wife is a big "Voice" fan. Most of the contestants spend their time screaming. Subtle they are not.

I really like Cade, but he has spent the last few weeks singing off key in the lower register. It has truly been an underwhelming season with lost of fast forwarding.

I would like to know why you wouldn't have gone to art school if you could do things differently in your life.
Art obviously is still a part of your life some 40 years later. It trained your eye as is evident in most of your visual postings. Do you think you could have trained yourself just as well without the formal education in art? Or what gives about that particular answer?
Well, I appreciate the low key approach, without the mugging and smug gestures, but I also thought she was often off key.
