And the primary isn't until August. I don't see how the Democrat has a chance. Here's the left-liberal Capital Times,
"Large field of governor candidates worries some Wisconsin Democrats, emboldens others":
As the candidates in an already large field search for ways to separate themselves from the pack four months ahead of the August primary, some Democratic insiders aren't pleased by the latest developments — but others say the continued interest in running is just a sign of strong tailwinds for Democrats going into November....
There are 11 candidates at this point. The newest one is Mike Crute ("co-host of the political Devil's Advocates radio show, owner of WRRD "Resistance Radio" and a Madison-area property manager"):
Crute, 47, said he's getting in because none of the candidates already in the field — which has been growing since last summer — are demonstrating the "boldness of candidacy" it would take for a Democrat to beat Republican Gov. Scott Walker, a skilled politician with a strong campaign infrastructure.
"It’s not that there are not people I admire in the field. They’re all really nice people," Crute said. "But Scott Walker, in my opinion, is an S.O.B. and if you are not willing to at least act that part when necessary, then you probably cannot beat him in a head-to-head matchup."
Ha ha, very funny. That's one way to stand out in a crowd. Ask Donald Trump.
"Mike Crute, doing what he is doing, makes this look like a circus. It is not serious," the insider said. "This field is naturally winnowing itself out and he is crowding it to serve his own ego. It’s a stunt, and it is bad for the race."
But it
is a circus. So why not be a first-rate clown. Again: it worked for Trump.
Prior to Crute's announcement, 38-year-old corporate attorney Josh Pade announced his own plans to join the field... Shortly after Pade and Crute joined the race, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was considering another run.
Now,
that's funny. Barrett is the one Walker beat in 2010, when he first became governor, and then beat again in 2012 when he was subjected to a recall.
But [a] Dem strategist — who voted for Barrett in 2010 and 2012 — feared a Barrett campaign would harm the party's chances. "He offers neither a fresh face nor fresh ideas," the strategist said.
Do any of the 11 already in the race have "fresh ideas"? Really, I'm just asking. Please, tell me in the comments: What are the "fresh ideas" offered by any Democrats in the Wisconsin gubernatorial race? If there aren't any, why not be out and proud? Your face is an unfresh face, and we should love that old face. Old faces are lovable too. And if you're destined to lose to Scott Walker — which I think you are — why not go down gracefully with the man who's got the most experience losing to Scott Walker?

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller???
It’s the same impulse that leads many to want Hillary to run again: thwarted entitlement.
Caligula made a horse a senator to prove a point. Some Democrats want to make Hillary president to prove that same point.
And if you're destined to lose...— which I think you are — why not go down gracefully...
I think that was the attitude of the establishment GOP facing Hillary!
It's all Trump's fault for making people believe that any fool can run for political office. The Dems are so blinded by their believe in Trump's lack of talent that they have convinced themselves they are all political stars. Good. It should be fun watching the Dem march to the left in WI as the state in general marches to the center right.
Fresh ideas?!? Surely you jest. The freshest is spend a lot of other people's money..... and we know how long that idea has been around.
Trump was rude to make possible solving problems that the payoff system doesn't allow you to even mention.
Scott Walker is the most qualified candidate to run for WI governor. Why isn’t he at least 50 points ahead?
Tax hikes. Free abortions. More Illegals. Union big-daddy mob graft. Use the D-corruption machine to manufacture fake charges against Walker.
The Party platform.
Plus Trump is so gross and icky and and and.... The Russians!
When I visited the Capitol over the Christmas holidays I got the impression that while the career employees weren’t exactly thrilled to be working under a Republican, they had at least learned to accept their fate with a certain level of resigned acceptance.
No way Barrett wants to run. I don't think he really wanted to the first two times.
Scott Walker seems like a nice guy, not a SOB.
That idiot should be made to explain.
Whe n did the last Democrat "fresh idea" appear? 1932?
The Dems have one fresh idea
Take away the Federal tax cut. That's a Federal plan but area Dems support it.
And I have a idea which I call the Pelosi Crumb Law. If the Federal tax cut gets taken away on the Federal level, restore it on the state level in Wisconsin by putting in place an exemption from Federal taxes like the one Pelosi lost in California and which she is determined to get back by repealing the tax cut. See, deplorables? why not learn from our betters? If state taxes can become a Federal tax deduction in California, why not in Wisconsin? Only this deduction will be deduction for all Wisconsin Federal tax payers, not just California and New York tax payers, not just Crumbs Pelosi and the NYC hedge fund guys. Just frame the Wisconsin law so that the deduction restores the tax cut, "the crumbs", that Pelosi wants to take away.
And write the law so it restores the tax cut as a deduction on Federal taxes to Wisconsin tax-paying manufacturing also. Encourage the guys who bring jobs to Wisconsin.
So the Dems want to take away your crumbs?
The ads write themselves.
If they want fresh ideas then they should run Mary Burke again. They won't be her fresh ideas, but they'll be someones.
Michael K: "Whe n did the last Democrat "fresh idea" appear? 1932"
1917.
I dunno, fixing the roads is an idea Walker isn't delivering on. It might not be new and fresh but driving up north this weekend the need was clear.
I suppose you are billing Walker's $100/kid bribe this summer as a new fresh idea?
Its been nothing but old and tired bad ideas out of both parties here of late, with no ability to solve problems. Transportation budget is a debt filled joke, schools keep paying for everything via referendum not budgets, Foxconn does not help a majority of the state.
Maybe rewarmed bad ideas and millions of RGA money will reelect Walker, but it won't take much to seem new based on recent WI politics.
Bill Clinton was the last national Dem with some “fresh ideas.”
The GOP is mainly Crony Capitalists for open borders, $1 trillion deficits, and “free trade” in which other countries pay off the 1% here. Mitch McConnell is the GOP.
The Dem Party is mainly Millionaire Socialists for open borders, $1 trillion deficits, and a trillion higher-ed industry in which the nomenklatura has 6-figure jobs in order to indoctrinate students into a Revolution that will end with 50 million dead and the US in ruins. Bernie Sanders is the Dem Party.
The best thing about Trump is he isnt in either of the Failed Parties. He commandeered the GOP for his own purposes and has pretty much vaporized it. And he’s made the Dem Party out itself as the Anti-American Red Scum they have become over the last decade. It’s Bernie’s Party now, comrades. An old white guy from a small white state who went from an unemployed deadbeat dad to a millionaire with three houses. Or one house and two dachas, befitting the General Secretary of the Party.
Universal everything.
The real trick to being a Democrat running for office is trying to appear reasonable.
A small change in perception makes a big difference. Althouse writes:
"Mike Crute, doing what he is doing, makes this look like a circus. It is not serious," the insider said. "This field is naturally winnowing itself out and he is crowding it to serve his own ego. It’s a stunt, and it is bad for the race."
But it is a circus. So why not be a first-rate clown. Again: it worked for Trump.
Circuses are tents full of entertainers exchanging skilled performances for cash - everybody is happy. The happiness concept eliminates Trump even though he believes himself to be a competent performer.
Trump, you must understand, performs in a traveling carnival perlieu as the barker selling all sorts of lies which deliberately degrade human beings as freaks and I don't have patience enough to list the debilitating names he gives to his aberrant cadre.
I read that the DNC has a new idea. After free tuition and single payer comes Reparations! That will be a winner!
Dems new idea:
Venezuelan Socialism!
I mean it worked for Trump v Clinton.
I agree that transportation might work for the Democrats -- but they only seem to want to run on revoking Act 10, as if that would be popular.
Good roads, clean air and clean water. That would be a platform if they could work on an answer to 'what about jobs' that would inevitably follow. But all I see so far is Act10Act10Act10.
Running as the not-Scott will work about as well as running as not Donald in 2020.
So, Althouse, to answer your questions, Dems have no new ideas. But it's not clear to me that Republicans have any either. Status quo only gets you so far.
MadisonMan, it calls to mind the scuba joke 'You don't have to swim faster than the shark, you just have to swim faster than your buddy'
Dems might not have much for ideas, but it isn't hard to have more ideas than Walker - or more than his Legislature can deliver.
Whether the Dems can offer that we will see, but the bar seems low.
When a politician has a fresh idea, it's mostly that s/he should be governor or senator.
