"A sketch years later about a nonexistent man. A total con job, playing the Fake News Media for Fools (but they know it)! "

Tweets Trump about the artist's rendering of the man who Stormy Daniels says threatened her years ago.

Look, if she were just making up a face, why would she make him absurdly, cartoonishly good looking? It seems like a schoolgirl's dream of the boy I'd like to meet. That makes it inherently implausible. Why would the handsomest guy in the world take on the work of being a random thug? And why would a rich man send out a really cute guy to scare a woman? Shouldn't he look more thuggish? But see, that's evidence that this is the real thing: You wouldn't make this up. Would you?

It's 7 years too late. If there was a threat made to Stormy back in 2011, she's gotta make a police report THEN and THERE, and make the sketch, THEN and THERE.

Waiting this long, suggests strongly that she's exaggerating or making it up, because she's caught up in the whirlwind against Trump, sorry.

Not excusing threats and taking them seriously, but you cannot wait 7 years to report a threat.

If you were going to pay a guy to scare people, you should hire a scary looking guy. If you wanted to lure someone into a trap, you might want someone good looking, but this was the job of just making the person feel threatened.

My favorite police sketch story is from years ago, when the manager of a fast food restaurant who had faked a robbery sat there with the artist and actually described himself.

Can you imagine David Hogg as an enforcer. First, you know he wouldn't be carrying a weapon of any kind, and second that he can't do anything that would get him in trouble (he needs to get into a college). All he could realistically do is threaten to organize a boycott so that no one would watch her porn videos any more on pornhub.

I missed the part about what relevant, first-hand knowledge it is, that Donald Trump possesses, to call it a "con job," and to assert that the man as alleged by Stormy Daniels doesn't exist.

Last I heard, the White House was claiming that there was never any relationship between Stormy Daniels and Trump. Trump hasn't even shown the manhood to say one way or another whether that part is true.

Who even believes Trump anymore? Do his supporters believe him?!? Do they really? Think that what Trump says is true? Or do they think that, sure, Trump fucked this broad, and he tried to pay her to keep quiet and execute an NDA, and it is all because Trump's enemies want to bring him down and prevent him from doing important things as President of the United States?

I remember not so long ago what Althouse's judgment was, concerning the shithole comments kerfuffle. Althouse referred to it as a "smear." She wrote: "Because even assuming he said it, which maybe he didn’t, I think it was taken out of context and portrayed as racist in a way that was viciously out of proportion. There was an intense effort to destroy him."

It didn't matter, to Althouse, if Trump was being truthful or not. The main thing was that it was somehow being used unfairly, even if Trump really did say it.

I now presume that no matter how much Trump lies about Stormy Daniels, Althouse will not view Trump unfavorably if it is "taken out of context and portrayed... in a way that [is] viciously out of proportion," with Althouse as the judge of "proportion."

The problems with creating a sketch of a face from someone's years old memory should be obvious. But just in case it isn't, here's the two big ones:

1) Memory is notoriously unreliable and gets more unreliable with time. Don't believe me? Just ask two different people who observed the same event 7 years ago to describe it in detail to the best of their ability. Odds are extremely high that there will be significant discrepancies.

2) Sketches themselves are imperfect approximations. This sketch of a vaguely handsome caucasian guy seems has already been compared to about a dozen well known celebrities, media personalities, and politicians.

It brings to mind the infamous unibomber sketch that turned out to not be so accurate after all. It turns out it was a composite of a lot of other descriptions, and it actually ended up looking much more like one of the original sketch artists than Ted Kaczynski.

What relevant, first-hand knowledge do you possess that Stormy was threatened?

What relevant, first-hand knowledge do you possess that Trump and Stormy had a sexual encounter?

You don't, and yet you comment on here.

It's funny, for weeks, CNN and various media organizations have been almost begging for Trump to tweet about the Stormy "matter". Pointing out how, just as you have, that he hasn't denied or admitted an affair.

Today he tweets about it and they freak out for him calling it a con job.

Meanwhile, CNN is putting pictures of the handsome stranger (who looks like Stormy's lawyer with hair!) on the screen with Trump's words "con job" right underneath it. They don't even realize they are reinforcing his message. That's why he said con job. That's why he used those words. He doesn't care if it's a con job or not, he wants the public to think of it as a con job.

Dowe their certainty in leftist dogma ever shift or waver even one iota? Do they ever, ever change their mind?

No. And the people you think only get their news from CNN wouldn't either even if you told them the truth. You can't reason someone out of a position that wasn't arrived at by reason. It's a cult of virtue signaling, and if they haven't figured it out when the Left has gone as utterly odd the rails as they are, they are a lost cause. It's also a hard truth that the vast majority of people don't really change their political opinions after a certain age. In fact this goes far beyond just political thinking. People don't really change much at all as they age, they just become more cautious and maybe a bit less impulsive. Becoming more cautious and less impulsive can be mistaken for wisdom, but real wisdom is much more than just that.

No, unfortunately most people seem to have a belief system that is hard coded and immutable by their mid twenties. It's to the point that you can slowly and deliberately walk them through a thought process (usually in a socratic way) get them to concede and agree with you on certain points, but at some point you'll hit a wall where they refuse to accept something that's clearly true. With liberals and progressives it'll often be some fundamental aspect of human nature that they'll disagree with you on (if you even get that far and it hasn't descended into insults).

It's a bummer.

That was not enough for the others at Wash Monthly. They would attack me like Ritmo does and go to my blog for nasty allusions to my kids and stuff like that.

Kevin Drum, who I followed to Wash Monthly from his own blog, Calpundit, then went on to Mother Jones but I was blocked there as well. The left does not want to hear any opinions but their own and I think you fall into that category.

You even went to Patterico to quote Patrick Frey's angry attacks on me because he has bad TDS and does not want anyone to disagree with him there. I read and posted there for years and he has lost some commenters but picked up leftist trolls since the election.

We understand exactly where you are coming from. We are exposed incessantly to the leftist media. We can with detail and comprehension describe what the democrats are saying they are doing and what they are actually doing.

You don't have any clue who or what we actually are. You have to make up your own caricatures mostly to adapt to reality which constantly slaps you in the face.

Do people in this industry never get threatened or beaten?

Are they in the business of truth telling and believably.

A Confidence Artist (Con Artist for short) is someone who makes you believe in your fantasies enough that you will willingly hand over your money. Con Artist is appropriate here for those who are buying into this bullshit. They are the ones being conned by a professional sex worker.

You don't need to wait 7 years. Try just one day. I did this once, and this was a long time ago, so I don't remember the details, but I do remember my astonishment: my feeling of I can't believe this.

I asked about five different people about an event that they had all witnessed the previous day, and that I had also seen, and not only did no one's memory match mine, but they were each different from one another. This was not a significant event. It didn't matter terribly. So it wouldn't have been something people had talked over in between, and changed their 'memories' to match.

From the linked article:

You have to agree the photo at the link is pretty damn similar.

I’m quite sure you’ve tried to “teach” them your political ideology for years now. What went wrong?

Inga, they grew up with me being neutral about politics. I did not inflict it on my kids and my life was about very different things.

Two of them are lawyers, which answers some of that. Law schools are notorious for leftist indoctrination.

One daughter is a Bernie voter but I sent her the Jordan Peterson book, wondering if she would ever read it. She called me two days after it arrived to tell me how much she loved it.

As for closed minded, years ago when we were on a trip to England together, I finished reading Stephen Pinker's book, "The Blank Slate." It is about how most behavior is genetic and Stephen Jay Gould was wrong about everything being about conditioning.

She had gone to UCLA and got a degree in Anthropology and was a Gould devotee. She told me she would read it if I read Gould's "The Mismeasure of Man." That is the bible of the behaviorists and I had read it. A copy was in my library.

She still refused to read the Pinker book. That was 20 years ago and I think she is more open minded now.

She is in the art world and that reenforces the leftist urge. Her boss is a world famous artist who sells paintings for millions.

Her one brother kind of resents that her mother and I still sort of support her even though she is 36.

He and his wife are conservative and have pretty much made their own way.

All the kids are different. I did not get active in politics, except local politics, until after 2001.

Regarding the alleged threat to Stormy:

(CNN) Adult film star Stormy Daniels said in a Sunday interview that seven years ago she was threatened by a man when she was trying to sell her story about her alleged affair with Donald Trump.

During her first on-air interview detailing her alleged relationship with Trump, Daniels told CBS' "60 Minutes" that she was approached in a Las Vegas parking lot while she was with her daughter in 2011.

I would guess that most conservative commenters here were at one time liberals who came to see the hypocrisy of the left in everything from the apologies for communism, sympathies for sweet ideas over actual revealed terror, the hugging close of failed educational policies, the doubling down on the horrendous effects of welfare on the black family and the rest of the long list of power grabs clothed in sickening language of concern.
So, most of us here have believed what you think to be true and virtuous but found it wanting, wrong. So we generally know how you feel and think on virtually every topic of politics or social policy. Over the years though, I've softened on a handful of issues, most notably gay rights. I am willing to compromise there. For example, I think women - particularly hot Lesbians - should be allowed to marry. But not men.

The Marist poll of of 827 registered voters, taken April 10 through April 13, has a 3.9 percent margin of error. It found that voters are less willing to support than oppose a congressional candidate promising to impeach President Donald Trump.

Some 47 percent said they definitely would vote against a candidate who wants to impeach the president, compared with 42 percent who definitely would vote for that candidate.

Even 30 percent of Democrats said they would vote against a pro-impeachment candidate or were unsure.

But Lanza (a political scientist) argued that most Americans recognize that impeachment is and extreme remedy for serious breaches- not a political ploy to be argued with lightly.

"If Democrats go to the polls and impeachment is a litmus test, Democrats will not win back control of Congress...They will suffer historic defeats."
