I am considering a VETO of the Omnibus Spending Bill based on the fact that the 800,000 plus DACA recipients have been totally abandoned by the Democrats (not even mentioned in Bill) and the BORDER WALL, which is desperately needed for our National Defense, is not fully funded.

In the best of all possible political worlds, Trump would have actually vetoed the bill. But that's not the world we're living in, esp. in the Senate. Yes, Republicans have a majority, but it's a bare majority and not even close to a controlling majority.
If those vote totals given above are accurate, then the Senate approved the bill by slightly over 66%, and the House by 74%. Trump's overarching political premise, so far as I'm aware, is that legislative power in this country should rest with the People, exercised through their elected representatives. Okay, according to that premise, the People have spoken. Loudly.
A pointless Trump veto of a massive, multi-issue bill like this would achieve nothing, and the political costs would be great. You think the Dems would what? reconsider their spending demands & reduce them? Hahahahah -- they'd double down and they and their friends in the media would have a field day of political posturing. And we'd still need a budget -- you think Ryan and McConnell could get a better deal after a Trump veto? If yes, explain why. If no, then why do it except as a useless gesture?

Actually, since I live in California, there IS no point in voting.
Normally I would agree with this. However it looks like this year things could be different. Democrats are so dominant in California that in 2016 many races had no Republican on the ballot in November because of our open primaries. (Two Democrats finished first and second in the primary and thus on the ballot in Nov.)
Because of this, many races have multiple Democrats running for it..sometimes half a dozen. This means the Democratic vote will be split. This should allow at least one Republican on the Nov ballot and in some cases perhaps both.

But from his very public tweets alone we know what Trump wanted – and most of it, aside from the military funding, was ignored by Ryan and McConnell. That is such a target rich environment for someone like me I hardly know where to begin. I would proceed to dismantle most of these these point by point with very detailed and link-reference analyses and data with graphs (wish we could post images on this blog) but I would be hijacking Prof. Althouse's blog for the rest of the night and it would not be fair to others who want to comment. But briefly: we already have an extensive social safety net, in fact, that is what is driving our country toward economic calamity; the wealthy already pay their "fair share" of taxes, maybe even more than their fair share; jobs at a "living wage" are readily available for those who are have at least a high-school diploma and are honest, reliable, and crime and drug free; the US is one of the least racist countries in the world and if you don't believe that you haven't traveled much; there are solutions to our broken immigration system but the Democrats don't want those implemented because they are desperate to turn all the illegal aliens and poor legal immigrants into reliable voters for socialism; "clean energy" is one of the biggest scams in history; and we need to tighten up our voter registration system to ensure that only citizens can register to vote, that people who do vote are who they say they are, and we ensure that once they have voted they don't vote in the same election again and again.

Critical? It’s one legislative battle among many more to come. I’ll admit that it was critical in the sense that our military preparedness is ALWAYS critical but this legislative defeat is merely one battle among many more to come.
Also, I’m not sure that a Trump veto would have been overridden. I believe Trump probably signed the bill because he didn’t want another government shutdown at this point – not because the assholes in Congress would have overridden his veto. Remember that there was a deadline to prevent a government shutdown in play.
But on the subject of overriding vetoes: I want Trump at sometime in the future to veto a bill and then for Congress to vote whether to override it. It’ll be a good way to flush out the phonies.

The big problems about analogizing modern Mexican politics and social system to the future state of the US -
- Mexico is for all intents and purposes a unified culture. Not always on the ground - see "Ley de Herodes", where the new alcalde has to deal with a pueblo where all the people speak only their Indian tongue. But the mass media and public, urban culture are unified. The US is not that, and will not be, it will be distinct tribal groups, determined by race, culture and even language, fighting for power. That will be more unstable than Mexico or Brazil.
- Mexico has an extremely wealthy neighbor to leech off of, providing the world largest, richest market, and thereby covering over every sort of social and economic failure. Mexico looks good, statistically, in comparison to much of the rest of the third world, but if you were to make any of the others a contiguous neighbor of the US they too would seem relatively wealthy. But a Mexico-standard US will not have some wealthier neighbor to bail it out.

US party affiliations are, as we have seen, largely irrelevant. The "Republican" control of Congress does not matter for the most part, as a large number of Congressmen and Senators are in practice inclined to the Democratic party platform.
The most important branch of government is also, as we have seen, not any elected or even judicial branch, but the bureaucracy, which is owned entirely by the Democrats, being the "party of government", owning the loyalty of its personnel. This is very much like Mexico, by the way.
Besides these, there are "branches" of government that are not included in your constitution that exist regardless, and cannot be ignored. In the US the Democrats have entire control of the high-ground of the intellectual culture, of academia, of corporate management (see Google, etc.), of finance, and of course of the mass media. This matters much more than what passes for the elected government.

To expand, on the nature of Democrats, it is interesting to consider the administration of Jimmy Carter. He had a Democratic Congress, a Democratic Senate (from 1978), and an extremely liberal Supreme Court.
Regardless of that, or perhaps because of that, that government passed much of the deregulation legislation that was later attributed to Reagan.

But the assertion that today's elites are less diverse or that prior elites were unaware of each other or of government isn't common knowledge. Elites today are far more diverse in race and gender, and that's the result of the opening up of the great universities after WW2 on merit to millions who never had, or thought they had, the opportunity.
Before WW2 Ann's grandparents would have raged against FDR and his cronies, almost all white men -- remember Frances Perkins -- who all came from the same schools and established families and who comprised a far more impenetrable elite than ambitious people face today.
That nexus of power consolidated in elites goes back right through our history -- to think that Southern planters weren't aware of Boston Brahmins, who owned ships, and New York financiers, who had money, as their partners and agents in the cotton and slave trades, is reading some strange history. This hurts, but Trump played it exactly right. As political theatre, I was very impressed by his midday "press conference" that knocked the networks off air to give him the bully pulpit. Wonderful bait and switch that left them sputtering after the fact that it wasn't a press conference after all, and that they had been snookered into letting Trump, our President, have a clear field to make his points.
Seriously, every point he made was politically brilliant.

Divergence began during the high unemployment of the deindustrialization of the 1970's. It continued, because the growth post-1976 or so was in the service economy.
Also consider that it was this takeoff of the service economy that brought in the female workforce.
