At the Whale-Vomits-Jonah Café...
... feel free to spew what you like.
And remember the Althouse Portal to Amazon.
The photo is from the "Ancestral Modern: Australian Aboriginal Art" exhibit at the Chazen Museum. The painting in the foreground is "Whale Fish Vomiting Jonah" (1993) by Jarinyanu David Downs.
The fish story from the Bible (KJV): "Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly, and said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God. When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord. And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land."

Genetic counsellors are the professionals who advise on the results of tests for hereditary conditions, often after samples have been taken from foetuses in the womb as well as from the parents. Consequently they are often the first to know that the father isn’t the father. A study in America found that more than 95 per cent of them would not tell a man that the child wasn’t his. (Around 95 per cent of genetic counsellors are female, and you have to wonder if more men would be informed if more counsellors were male.)

A woman must never be made to feel bad about, or responsible for, anything ever. Especially if the victim is just a splooge stooge.

I would live inside a whale if I liked sea food.
But I don't.
US has completely pulled out of Incirlik AFB Turkey and Qatar.
Turks seem to have gone completely hostile.
I suspect it has to do with their relations with Saudi Arabia, which was once the financing behind Erdogan.
But Saudi has changed management.
Qatar is not with the Saudi program. Or the US one either apparently.
And the Houthis have bombarded Riyadh with seven missiles.
It seems the world still exists.
From the Gospel of Matthew the Tax Collector Chapter 12 verse 40:
for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. And here it is, Palm Sunday. We Catholics read the Triumphal Entry and The Trial and Crucifixion of Christ today.
And it gets better as Holy Week looms...And Good Friday aligns with Passover.
Trump is supposed to be lower than whale shit right about now.
“Our Lives” and “Occupy”. Anybody remember the “occupy” movement (Occupy Wall street, 99%, etc.)? In 2011/2012, the world was fascinated by this phenomenon. Young people were fired up, committed to making a change for good in the world. The press was fascinated: Was this the beginning of a new era of political activism?
Occupy was good at identifying the villains (the banks, Wall Street, the 1%). It had a vision of a better world (a world without greed, a world where money did not buy political influence).
But Occupy never had a clear idea of how to achieve that better world.
And ultimately when people’s arms were tired of shaking of fists and when the leader/organizers moved on to the business of normal life and when journalists began asking, “So what’s new?” the Occupy movement slowly stuttered to its ineluctable end.
Watching the March for Our Lives last weekend, I found myself thinking back to those days of Occupy. Occupy did not succeed in ending greed, or in reducing the power of money and Wall Street, or in changing the distribution of income.
It was good street theatre, until it became too repetitive; and we older wiser heads could smile and nod patronizingly at the children and how much they have to learn.
Considering the build up, the childrens was perhaps not Hudson hawk, but perhaps the last boy scout

It's passages like that make me regret I can't read Biblical Hebrew.
Luke makes a stronger parallel with isiah, its rather striking how 'the writing was on the wall' yet few were willing to admit it.
Craiglist personal just went off line due to a new law passed by Congress. Too bad, they were pretty funny sometimes.

Yes Doha is certainly a player, you might even they say they commissioned Mueller:

Funnily enough, I had much the same thoughts about the Tea Party.
I once saw Richard Dawkins unironically read the Jonah story on a TV show. It was a show about evolution and involved dissecting actual critters on screen ("Inside Nature's Giants"), alternating with Dawkins talking about the evolution aspects. But in the whale episode (they dissected a sperm whale that washed up in Britain), his last segment was a Biblical quote.
Unexpected, and I though a good way of conveying the hold such large animals have on the human mind. And it demonstrated that Dawkins isn't ALWAYS a jerk about religion.
Interesting in Toby duck, Melville throws everything he knew about whales into it, including sightings as far back as justinians time in office.
Tea Party had excellent ideas.
Dereg and rationalization, and no bailouts.
Some of which you are getting with Trump.
Ambergris is extremely valuable, though it's not really a dinner item.
The smelly Hebrew prophet impresses the Ninevites so much they thought that was a miracle from God so the repented. The Hebrew prophets up to and including Deacon Stephen liked to mention that the Ninevites repented at hearing God's word but the Jews always resisted the SPIRIT OF HOLINESS. Stephen got stoned to death about 3 minutes later. The truth is not popular.
Its also interesting re Qatar, that they had such a ubiquitous presence in financing all sorts of curious things, including US politics. Whether this was pass-through from other players who knows.
There will be other sorts of fallout from the weirdness in Saudi. Its getting very interesting.
It wee those events that inspire Allen drurys come nineveh come tyre when aloft wing president Ted Jason surrenders to the USSR.
Yes the Al thanis and their more prominent clan the kuwaris have sought to leverage the leadership of the world wide salami community, all the way being the seat of us operations in this region.
In such a way they resemble the mythical qumar emirate of the west wing, whose defense minister is so staunchly antiamerican that even a pacifist like Bartlett has him eliminated then covers it up. They borrowed this ending from Charles mccarrys better angel, written nearly 40 years ago.
False report re Incirlik and Qatar/Udeid, denied by CENTCOM.
Please Ann. We have had quite enough of your librul fawning over the silly primitive while everyone makes fun of the addled opioid heros overdosing to making flyover country great again. Can one whistle Dixie for the Rust Belt?
Howard, you can argue politics all you like, but this is just mean drunk territory.
Incirlik report turned out to be Debka, which figures.

There was a report in The Daly Beast a few days back about a couple of porn stars who were suing the porn company and the actors they worked with for a bad experience they had on the set. The girls were working in a sub genre--vomit fetish. I wasn't aware of this one. Apparently some guys get off by watching women vomit during oral sex. (How does one develop a fetish like that? Human sexuality is remarkably diverse in its expressions and triggering mechanisms). Apparently the secret to successful on set vomiting is to drink a lot of water and eat plenty of apples. The girls did this but they claim they were nevertheless treated in an abusive way to bring on the vomiting......lI don't know why but all this talk about Stormy Daniels reminded me of the article.
You notice how there is no news in the news

I've purchased Cecil B. DeMilles' "The Ten Commandments" from Amazon (really licensed). The license is good for perpetuity, which is a little blasphemous.
But I've never seen it in HD. I think that the last time I saw it on televivision was in the 80s, so it was a crappy print on a crappy TV.
First thoughts: too bad the HD can't do anything about the bad acting.
Second thoughts: good thing Jochabed made the infant Moses' bed out of reeds instead of rocks!
You can be so funny, that's why I come back here. I'm reminded of that Northern Exposure episode where Joel is in the belly of the whale with his Rabbi, it's been so long I can't remember too many specifics and there's not as much commentary on that episode or the show as I would have hoped for, but here it is http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0662344/
Young Moses: "Your perfume is like the wine of Babylon."
Nefertiri: "But I am Egypt!"

My pal Toothless left this poem for me on another thread.
Where he explained how people taking million dollar advances on their credit cards were responsible for the housing market crash.

Life is good ;-)
The Ten Commandments is getting better. Not so many beefy guards & slave masters spouting cliched dialog in Midwestern accents.
Jewish slave: "Must you also shame shame and defile our women?"
Midwestern slave master: "Dance you squealing goat!" (cracks whip).
Master builder (cracking whip): "No, your wings will not be singed, my dove, not by that fire."
The dialog in The Ten Commandments is pretty cornball.
There is similarity between the story of Moses, in DeMille's The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur. In both, a son of privilege (born a Jew) threatens the non-Jewish authority, is cast into slavery, revolts, and proves himself to be the master of his onetime slave masters.
The villains in The Ten Commandments can be excused by patriotism, bigotry, or whatever. The worst is Dathan, who is a Hebrew, is utterly corrupt. He serves only his own appetites.
I saw The Ten Commandments once on the big screen in 1984 or 85. I haven't seen it since on the HD televisions of today, but I do remember being a bit stunned at the difference in resolution because I had, of course, seen the film multiple times on ABC when I was growing up in the 70s and early 80s because they showed every year during Passover/Easter. Pretty much every other film I had ever seen up that point I had seen in the theater first then only later on television.
The part where Ramses' dad drives Moses forth, bereft of all but God, into the wilderness, is pretty good. But it ends with a herd of girls discovering an unconscious Moses, in full-on prophet mode, near a well. "It's a man!"
Rude Amalekites approach: "get out of the way, girls!" The Amalekites are driven off, and giggling girls assault a curiously submissive Moses and wash him in a well. Alas! I do not think I would have Moses' single minded determination to keep my eyes on God's Laws if I was surrounded by a bunch of giggling young girls eager to bathe my naked body.
These are fallen days.
I'm seeing another similarity, this time between the story of Moses and the story told in the old Escape radio program "Earth Abides": http://www.escape-suspense.com/2010/07/escape-earth-abides.html.
I hate Jungians, but maybe sometimes they are right.
In the Burning Bush scene, God is mumbling his words. They are barely audible, but they are commands. The words of Moses are clear, and are questions posed to God. Hmmm.
Impressive special effects, given the technology of 1956.
Intermission!
I'm going to stop blogging The Ten Commandments now, because I am getting sleepy. It's a very pretty movie. It tells you the story of the Jews and Passover, from the POV of 1956 American movie producers -- OMG, is that John Carradine? -- than it does about the Moses and Passover of the OT. Watch it anyway, 1956 looms larger in our mythology than Passover.

Obama envisions creating 'a million young Barack Obamas' during speech in Japan
I'm sure he could find a significant number of progressive women who'd sign up to carry them to term. It would be the ultimate in 2018 virtue signaling.

I'm always a jerk about religion because religion is the plural of delusion.
How many people here believe the goofy fish story?
"Australian Archbishop refuses to report pedophile priests or their victims to the law; claims that confession alone is a “higher” communication with God"
There's no reason to treat superstition with respect.
I'm always a jerk about religion because religion is the plural of delusion.
Atheist never do anything that could make somebody angry! <<-- That was ironic, in case you can't see it through your delusions, asshole.
There's no reason to treat superstition with respect.
Yes, it gets in the way of you proselytizing your own!
Did someone mention "angry"?

True! I plead guilty. My only hope is being made love to by you. I know your wife is just a cover-up. You crave and love me.
Hold me, please Moon. I dream of being made love to by a grimy contractor in denims and perma-stubble who cheats developers out of the work. It's seriously every woman - I mean, man's - dream.
Do you like your women a little hairy, too? Does the lady drop some hairs when you're doing the grouting and tile work?
You are so superior to those programmers. If only they would recognize it, right?
Are you going to Wharton, like Trump?

Right. The TEA party was just like Occupy whatever.
The pooping on police cars, setting shops on fire, raping people in tents. Good times; good times.
where are the basketball hoops?
