Just pondering this - I don't think the Dems have a good chance of winning either the Senate or the House in this year's midterms, but surely they have a decent chance at winning the presidency in 2020?

It cannot be hard to find a better candidate than Hillary Clinton! Especially if they decide to let the Dem voters decide on the candidate. Let's face it, Bernie Sanders would have won the general if he had been the Dem candidate, and I do believe that if it had been really left up to the Dem voters he would have won the primary.

I just suddenly realized that the sustained temper tantrum the Dem politicians have been having since November 9th, 2016 is about something they DID TO THEMSELVES.

“In a January 18 meeting between Trump and top generals in the Pentagon’s tank (a room reserved for top secret discussions), he broached the subject of a military parade, again.

Two officials briefed on the parade planning report:

Surrounded by the military’s highest ranking officials, including Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford, Trump’s seemingly abstract desire for a parade was suddenly heard as a presidential directive, the officials said.

“The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France,” said a military official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the planning discussions are supposed to remain confidential. “This is being worked at the highest levels of the military.””

I think a parade with marching and bands and lots of color is a fine idea. But leave the hardware at home Who are we trying to impress? North Korea? They know we could vaporize them with one hand behind our back.

"On March 17, 2017, the Chairman and Ranking Member were provided copies of the two relevant FISA applications, which requested authority to conduct surveillance of Carter Page. Both relied heavily on Mr. Steele's dossier claims...."

"The bulk of the application consists of allegations against Page that were disclosed to the FBI by Mr. Steele and are also outlined in the Steele dossier. The application appears to contain no additional information corroborating the dossier allegations against Mr. Page, although it does cite to a news article that appears to be sourced to Mr. Steele's dossier as well."

Are we ashamed of the men and women, who defend us or the uniforms that denote their commitment? Are we ashamed of the hardware that creative, industrious Americans have invented, developed, built and man everyday in our defense? Are we ashamed of our willingness to defend ourselves, our country, and our values?

I guess, some of us must be. It's sad when the French outshine us in pride of self-defense. The French for Christ's sake!

The only problem I have with a military parade is that it can't possibly demonstrate the true power and scope of our forces, but it can express and our pride in those who do all that work and sacrifice for us. OMG! how terrible.

Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners."

https://www.militarytimes.com/newsletters/pay-benefits/2017/11/13/pentagon-may-stop-running-state-side-schools-for-military-children/

“The Trump administration is considering a plan to end the military’s longtime operation of schools for military children on dozens of stateside military bases, part of a broader push to cut costs and reduce the size of the federal workforce, according to information obtained by Military Times.

The military currently operates 47 schools on military installations in seven states in the continental U.S., serving a total of about 20,000 students. The proposal, which has support from some parts of the Pentagon, would turn over operation of those schools to local school districts”

Lucien said...

"This proposal to stop running schools on military bases is among the reform initiatives that are the result of the Trump Administration’s direction to government agencies in April to develop a plan for reforming the government and reducing the federal workforce. In an interview with Fox & Friends Tuesday, President Donald Trump refused to accept responsibility for the risky special operations raid in Yemen earlier this month that resulted in the death of Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens.

Never mind the fact that Trump personally approved and ordered this flawed raid; never mind the fact that he personally signaled during his campaign that he wanted to order more aggressive counterterrorism actions like this. When things went bad, it was the fault of the military — not Trump.

“This was a mission that was started before I got here. This was something they wanted to do,” Trump said. “They came to me, they explained what they wanted to do ― the generals ― who are very respected, my generals are the most respected that we’ve had in many decades, I believe. And they lost Ryan.”

The military, in other words, is to blame for the tragic loss of one of their own. Trump himself, in his own mind, is blameless.”

“Donald J. Trump belittled the parents of a slain Muslim soldier who had strongly denounced Mr. Trump during the Democratic National Convention, saying that the soldier’s father had delivered the entire speech because his mother was not “allowed” to speak.

Mr. Trump’s comments, in an interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News that will air on Sunday, drew quick and widespread condemnation and amplified calls for Republican leaders to distance themselves from their presidential nominee. With his implication that the soldier’s mother had not spoken because of female subservience expected in some traditional strains of Islam, his comments also inflamed his hostilities with American Muslims.

Khizr Khan, the soldier’s father, lashed out at Mr. Trump in an interview on Saturday, saying his wife had not spoken at the convention because it was too painful for her to talk about her son’s death.

Mr. Trump, he said, “is devoid of feeling the pain of a mother who has sacrificed her son.””

https://www.militarytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2017/10/23/military-times-poll-what-you-really-think-about-trump/

“Yet while Trump is especially popular among enlisted troops, officers have a much lower opinion of him.

And women and minorities in the ranks share similar skepticism.

Overall, about 44 percent of all troops surveyed in the Military Times poll have a favorable view of Trump, while roughly 40 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him. That’s a stark contrast to opinion polls of the general public, which have shown Trump’s popularity at less than 40 percent and an unfavorable rating as high as 56 percent.

Yet, the poll of more than 1,100 active-duty troops, conducted in September, shows a deep divide over service members’ opinions of the commander in chief, whose first nine months in office have been marked by military policies that have drawn both praise and concern from Pentagon leaders.

While almost 48 percent of enlisted troops approve of Trump, only about 30 percent of officers say the same, the poll shows.

Among the many takeaways in Military Times’ far-ranging poll of service members’ attitudes toward President Donald Trump and his policies, the clearest may be these: The commander-in-chief’s strongest support within the armed forces comes from the uncommissioned, the Marine Corps, and the Army — and his biggest critics in the service come from the officers’ ranks, the Navy, and the Air Force. What service you’re in, and whether you’re enlisted or not, turn out to be the two biggest factors in your support for Trump.”

Guild - we have Trump because the Republican/Independents who were interested enough to vote in the Republican primaries were really, really pissed off at the power structures in the Republican primary. And it so happened that they had a real option this time, even though when he first appeared over the horizon everyone treated him like a joke except for the voters.

Why won't the Dem voters be feeling the same thing? It seems to me that many of them were for the last go-round. What if they get THEIR insurgency candidate? Isn't that what some of them are trying to do now? Isn't that what they were trying to do in the last election?

I look at the exit polls, and Trump was the "change" candidate, for obvious reasons:
https://www.cnn.com/election/2016/results/exit-polls

6% of the voters voted for third party candidates - enough to swing it either way.

The Republicans in Congress who don't back Trump are really missing the point. They only have the majority because of the voters Trump brought out. People don't like the Republican party. They just hated what they were offered by the Dems more.

I don't believe in the system, but I do believe that the voters are really fed up and will not be any fonder of it in 2020.

When there was a large military establishment in SF, at the Presidio and the Hunters Point shipyard, etc., there were a large number of military families resident here, and they did not have DOD schools - not all bases/duty stations have them. I was also a military brat in the SF Bay Area and we did have a military base school.

It was no different than any other.

The real concern from a navy perspective is that we often have bases in really bad public school areas (all run by democrats, naturally). It's no surprise that in those areas the parents on the bases don't want their kids bussed off base to attend the typical lefty s***hole schools.

The newly partially unredacted Grassley memo is must reading. In particular, I had forgotten the title of the Isikoff story that the DoJ had cited as corroboration of the Steele Dossier- here is the title of the story as it appeared on September 23, 2016:

"US Officials (emphasis added by YW) Probe Ties Between Trump Advisor and Kremlin"

Do you see the problem here? It is highlighted by the thing Isikoff said this weekend about his surprise, because he had asked an official in law enforcement in the Obama Administration if the allegations were true- that they were investigating Page, and it had been confirmed. So, explain to me how this story could have ever been cited as corroboration- the title of the story itself reveals it to be self-corroboration, and thus completely invalid as corroboration. Astonishing, truly astonishing.

"The military currently operates 47 schools on military installations in seven states in the continental U.S., serving a total of about 20,000 students. The proposal, which has support from some parts of the Pentagon, would turn over operation of those schools to local school districts”

I believe sending the children of personnel on military bases to the local school districts has long been the norm, not the exception. I grew up in Atlanta near Ft. McPherson, now closed but once Third Army HQ and later FORSCOM HQ, and all the children living on post went to City of Atlanta schools. The Army had its own fleet of olive green busses to take them. The DoD made a payment to the Atlanta school system in lieu of taxes to cover the expense. A lot of my friends in high school lived there, and I will soon have been married to one of them for 45 years.

Powerline's take on the parade is pretty good:

"President Trump has a unique ability to make liberal heads explode. You can see this one coming: libs will ramp up their use of the F-word, while normal Americans will wonder what is wrong with a parade:

'A date has not been selected, although officials said Trump would like to tie the parade to a patriotic holiday.'

Of course he would! That only makes it worse, for the Left. While liberals may not be traitors, as the president suggested in a moment of levity, most of them are not very patriotic. So a military parade down Pennsylvania Avenue, reminiscent of the Grand Review of the Armies at the end of the Civil War, will send liberals into a tizzy that the rest of us can enjoy.

Where did Trump get the idea of a military parade? From France:

'The inspiration for Trump’s push is last year’s Bastille Day celebration in Paris, which the president attended as a guest of French President Emmanuel Macron. Trump was awe-struck by the tableau of uniformed French troops marching down Avenue des Champs-Élysées with military tanks, armored vehicles, gun trucks and carriers — complete with F-16 fighter jets flying over the Arc de Triomphe and painting the sky with streaks of blue, white and red smoke.'

But wait! Aren’t the French sophisticated Europeans of the sort that liberals want the U.S. to emulate? If they can have a military parade, why can’t we? No doubt liberals will come up with an answer to that question; it will be entertaining to see what it is. As Steve likes to say, get out the popcorn!"

Tammy Duckworth will undoubtedly scrabble for another Teddy Roosevelt quote obedient leftist fools will dutifully drop in comments sections all over the Internet.

So Adam Schiff (D-Pervert) was sniffing for naked pictures of President Triumph. The question is, was he going to share them or keep them to himself?

”To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but it is treasonable to the American public.”

That’s a great quote, but has anybody made such an announcement? I watched the tape and saw that he remarked on the fact that Democrats couldn’t even clap for an announcement of record low black unemployment. Put words in his mouth!

Newly revealed text messages between FBI paramours Peter Strzok and Lisa Page include an exchange about preparing talking points for then-FBI Director James Comey to give to President Obama, who wanted “to know everything we’re doing." The message, from Page to Strzok, was among thousands of texts between the lovers reviewed by Fox News. The pair both worked at one point for Special Counsel Robert Mueller´s probe of alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Page wrote to Strzok on Sept. 2, 2016 about prepping Comey because “potus wants to know everything we´re doing."

Any of you people consider what a royal pain in the ass a military parade is for the poor suckers who have to march in it?

Germany’s Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control approved a license for a company to sell military applicable technology to Iranian companies that subsequently was used in Syrian regime chemical weapons attacks, reported the German publication Bild on Monday.

The German company Krempel, located near the southern city of Stuttgart, sold electronic press boards to Iranian companies that were used in the production of rockets.

The Jerusalem Post reported in 2017 that multiple German intelligence reports revealed that Iran sought chemical and biological weapon technology in the federal republic.

Obama’s friendly regime in Iran.

I think it’s a dumb idea, but your comment reminded me of that scene in Catch-22 about parades. It’s a dumb idea, bot not impeachable.

Ha! A billionaire doctor is buying the LA Times and other media outlets. The press is losing it because he's complained about "false reporting" in the past, has been seen with Trump and could possibly be a Trump supporter. Oh noes!

”And we haven't seen anything yet. Wait until robotics and AI, artificial intelligence, really takes off. So when people are insecure and anxious, they often defend against their own feeling by rejecting others. That often happens with minorities. It happens with ethnicities, races, religion and it also happens with respect to women …. it was an outgrowth of all this anxiety and insecurity that is playing on people and leading them in a hunt for scapegoats.” - Hillary Clinton

So why do we need uncontrolled immigration again when the jobs are due to dry up?

It's a mixture of both. I'm an Air Force brat, and I attended a DoD elementary when my dad was at George AFB in Calif...but I went to a civilian middle school there, and a civilian Jr high at Homestead Fla. I attended DoD elementaries, middles school and high school while on American air force bases in the UK.

One nice thing about attending DoD schools is that they all pretty much use the same curriculum and pacing guides...so when you move (which you do often) you are pretty much doing the same thing at your new school you were doing at your old school. This was definitely not the case when moving between civilian schools or civilian/DoD schools.

Regarding Tammy Duckworth, this is from Wikipedia:

"In 2009, two Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs employees at the Anna Veteran's Home in Union County filed a lawsuit against Duckworth.[24] The lawsuit alleged that Duckworth wrongfully terminated one employee and threatened and intimidated another for bringing reports of abuse and misconduct of veterans when she was head of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs." In the end the State of Illinois announced that the suit had been settled for a paltry $26,000 with not admission of wrongdoing. The plaintiffs announced that they did not wish to accept the settlement but the judge vacated the trial, Illinois being a thoroughly corrupt state and all.

The Vietnam era veteran supports Donald Trump and believes that in a just world Tammy Duckworth would be in jail for allowing the people she was supposed to be supervising to abuse veterans.
