But I repeat myself -- boy is snowboarding BORING.

So, the snowboard gold medal dude just wrapped himself in Canada's flag. That is so wrong. He really shouldn't have done that.

You can express pride about particular Canadians — I'm thinking, um ... — but don't express pride in Canada, eh.

That did it. Right ?

No MK. It didn't.

I posed this question on the Scot Peterson thread, but I'm going to ask it again. Suppose the goal of the FBI and the Broward Sheriff's Department was to facilitate, rather than prevent, Nikolaus Cruz murdering his classmates? What, precisely, would they have done different?

The FBI had two tips about someone with an unusual spelling of his name figuratively standing on the table waving his AR and announcing his plans to shoot up a school, but did nothing.

The Broward County Sheriff's office had been called to his house dozens of times and did nothing.

The four deputies had to know that they outnumbered the shooter but stood around outside the school doing nothing.

Time for some new leadership in both agencies.

And all of the City of Coral Springs wants it clearly understood that those four were all Broward County Sheriff's deputies and not any kind of policemen

BTW, I'm not saying that there was a conspiracy to kill children at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which it turns out lots of people really are -- explicitly saying. The old saying that one should never ascribe to conspiracy that which can be explained by raw incompetency was never more apt. But someone is paying the individuals in genuine US dollars to do a job, and it seems clear that the job was not to do nothing about threats to kill children.

What ever happened to Crack MC? I went looking for his blog recently and it seems the last post was in 2017. He went a bit nuts, but from time to time, that can happen to anyone. Hope he's okay.

Got to watch the entire CPAC speech on CSPAN tonight. Trump was in his prime and relaxed with his friends. How anyone honestly still hates him after this year of being an authentic leader and brilliant at communicating truth to us is a mystery.

So about this Gates guilty plea --

I noticed that one of the charges was new -- allegedly lying to investigators in an interview held on February 1, 2018. That would be AFTER he was already under indictment on other charges (which I believe included other specious charges of lying to investigators).

So, what's up with investigators questioning a defendant who has already been charged?? At that point, he has legal counsel. So, either the government violated his Sixth and Fifth Amendment rights in questioning him without his attorney present, or he received ineffective assistance of counsel in allowing Gates to be questioned or in allowing him to give an answer that the government could later claim was false.

Either way, the whole thing -- but especially the charge and plea on this -- stinks.

David Kramer, an associate of John McCain, is taking the 5th in response to a House Intelligence Committee subpoena for testimony about the sources of the Steele Dossier. Previously, Kramer had told congressional investigators that he knew details about Steele's sources- some reports had stated flat out that Kramer said he knew the identities of the sources, but refused to share them with the committee during voluntary testimony. So Nunes issued a congressional subpoena, and Kramer took the 5th today to avoid testifying.

My interpretation is that Kramer lied the first time, either knowingly or was passing on disinformation he wasn't in on. To keep from being found out to have lied the first time, he bailed this time.

It is fear. They know he is systematically ending their game. It must be difficult to contemplate obscurity after so long on top.

I would like President Trump to tweet (favorably) about Jordan Peterson and Scott Adams. Both Peterson and Scott are NOT “conservatives.” Both extremes of the political spectrum (radical Left, radical Right) are condemned by them. Neither of them are “ideological” in any classical sense of the word.

Scott is a self-professed casual classical liberal who favors socialized healthcare and is merely an explainer of the Trump phenomenon and who provides some useful analytical tools to help those who are interested to understand Trump.

Peterson is a bona fide intellectual who at the moment is attacked by the Left and is thus mostly concerned with them but who has no love of the radical Right. This is not immediately evident since the radical Right is mostly leaving him alone and he doesn’t have to respond to them. Peterson, for instance, is conservative on sex and pornography. He advises never to have sex on the first date (or second or third, for that matter), to be cautious with new encounters and to ignore pornography which he believes is dangerously soul-killing. Keep in mind that the man is a practicing clinical psychologist, as well as a university professor.

A tweet from Trump regarding either of them would detonate the usual ideological Leftist shitstorm and that is good. The more of these shitstorms Trump can generate the better because they serve to reveal the true nature of the neo-Marxist Left – which is most of the MSM, educators, intellectuals and Democrats and which is arbitrary, totalitarian and anti-intellectual.

And Trump himself is anti-ideology. Trump is a slightly right of center pragmatist. And he is pulling the Right more toward the middle of the spectrum – which is also good because the radical Right (alt-rightists and white supremacists), while small at the moment, could grow quickly into a larger movement, which would be very bad. If most of the Right is near the center of the spectrum it would marginalize the radical Right. Eventually I believe Trump will also pull the Left more toward the center. This is where I want the bulk of the political class to be – near the middle.

The only things I think that can stop Trump now is assassination (which I worry about constantly) and an unpopular war, which I doubt will happen.

I got up to empty my bladder and I see that (1) Ester Ledecka won the snowboard parallel giant slalom (she is the reigning world champion in the event) to go with her gold in alpine skiing. A totally historic achievement, only person to ever win golds in two different disciplines in the same games.

Then (2) the US Curling team won gold decisively. Shouldn’t be a big surprise because after a poor finish in Sochi the US Curling Ass’n held tryouts to pick a “team of the future” to train to do better in PyeongChang. And not a single member of this team that won gold was on it. They got together on their own, trained on their own with no official support, and started kicking butt. In the end the national association was forced to sponsor them, and now they have a gold.

Pretty funny grackle, isn’t it, that none of our resident anti-war trolls will give Trump any credit for not banging the war drums to go and remover dictators like in Libya and Syria.

It’s almost as if they aren’t really against war, just Republicans.

The only conspiracy theory I have heard about Parkland was that the BSO was under pressure to lower the number of Hispanic arrests by simply not arresting Hispanics, so Nikolas de Jesus Cruz got a pass.

Hagar said...

But why did Sheriff Israel use such language about Scot Peterson, but not even a mention of the other three deputies?

Which is a "conspiracy theory" only because it is a theory about a conspiracy. It's a matter of public record. Read it and weep;

Nikolas Cruz could have been arrested and charged on numerous occasions. He was not, because the good liberals of Broward County don't want to fuel the "school-to-prison-pipeline". Since Cruz had no record, he was able to purchase an AR-15, after passing the background check. So they fueled the "school-to-graveyard" pipeline instead. The moral seems to be, stay the fuck away from the schools in Broward County, or anywhere else for that matter.
