ORANGE. BOWL. CHAMPS.

Poor Mark Richt. He let his German heritage come out on National TV. All Mark wanted to do was show the dumb Referee what holding looks like.

Wisconsin was clearly the superior football team.

No interceptions thrown by Hornibrook won the game. That was my worst fear.

Humperdink said...

Yep, Richt did not acquit himself very well last night. His behavior will be a sports highlight for a few days.

The pressure is now on the Wolverines to keep the Big 10 undefeated.

A very strange football year for the Big Ten: 8 BT teams scheduled in bowl games, 7 BT teams won bowl games, 1 last unplayed bowl game with a BT entered. Will the BT sweep its bowl games this time.

Oh well, there's always next year!

Hahaha so typically Bucky. QUick, without looking, who won the last five. The last one?

BIG. FUCKING. DEAL.

Big 10 went 3-6 last year.

It's been a terrible year for the Pac-12 this year.

Ah, ha. The word is out now that white referees from the Jim Crow SEC stole the game for Wisconsin's white team that was playing against Miami's black team.

We have our W, but what was up with the Miami Hurricanes and the letter U. Single U. Not the first letter of either the school or the mascot. Do they think they're the only U-niversity or do they pronounce Hurricanes 'Urricanes.

I also had many comments about the uniforms, which the 'Urricanes wore in a very unattractive way, baring middle sections, with a big fat belly bulging out. Why is that permitted?!

Members and alumni of the University of Miami have long had a habit of stressing the "the" (and pronouncing it thee) when talking of their school. This has often been shortened over the years to "The U". (Much as many people refer to USC as SC)

Players (especially line men which are more likely to have "a big fat belly") want to wear their uniforms as tight as possible to make it harder to hold them.

Really? I thought it was because they could not pronounce/spell a multi-syllable word.

Miami calls themselves "The U". Kind of like Ohio State calling themselves "THE Ohio State University." It's a product of WINNING. FOOTBALL. CHAMPIONSHIPS. and CONFERENCE. TITLES.

Another "uniform" question...what is up with the symbol on Wisconsin's band uniform?

"Turnover chain my fucking ass."

Lately, I've been making a hand signal with my left hand in a horizontal position, and my right hand underneath it in a vertical position forming a T, which stands for Trump is President now, and not hillary. You can do it too.

I havent watched all the bowl games, but what I have seen, looks like defense is back in vogue. only 4 games reached scores in the 50's

I'm so happy for Wisconsin! The Big 10 is definitely letting the Bowl Committee know they didn't give enough credit to the toughness of the league this year.

I thought the Miami uniforms were designed to look like Gucci, which goes along with their "turnover chain". It all felt very showy and Miami to me, and I can't say I'm a fan.

There’s nothing I enjoy about Miami. The players , fans, and coach are all trash. Wisconsin plays football how it’s supposed to be played, by smashing it down your throat. I love it. And who the f is Van Gienkle? That guy played lights out in the Big 10 championship game and last night.

Any else notice how often players do this stupid first down signal every...single....time... they get one? We got it, you got a first down. Congratulations. And Richt should get a suspension for basically hitting the ref.

Ann Althouse said...

I thought the Miami uniforms were nice looking. I said so at the beginning of the game. But I think the idea of a uniform includes uniformity in how the uniform is worn. It should convey the team's overall message. And a bare midriff should be forbidden.

AllenS said...

The only thing worse than a bare midriff is a butt crack. Both caused by short uniform tops.

Humperdink said...

"There’s nothing I enjoy about Miami."

I agree. Ever since they showed up in battle fatigues back in the '80's when they played PSU, they have been a classless bunch. I think they are turning the corner in the regard, but last night's performance by their coach took them back a few steps.

Any team that beats Miami is a friend of mine. On, Wisconsin!

Nice job Badgers. They beat a good team on their home field. The coach is a keeper (if they can keep him.) It's also clear that there is depth on the roster. Some top players were lost to injury and they continued playing well.

I doubt Chryst is going anywhere. He's home. I worry about keeping the defensive coordinator. He's getting job offers, including a head coaching position.

It's a product of arrogance.

Congrats, but wish it had been Penn State. At least we won the Fiesta Bowl---what a game it was, too!

DanTheMan said...

Note to Badgers: The game started at 8PM Eastern Time. You didn't start playing until 8:PM Central Time. Next time, set your phones accordingly...

I'm with Fabi: Anybody who beats Miami is OK by me!

(Much as many people refer to USC as SC)

If you Google something with "USC" you get South Carolina.

Those of us who attended have never used "The U of" in describing the school.

Sadly, SC is in another of the doldrums that follow the driving out of a very successful coach, like Pete Carroll.

They have also hurt the team badly by the inexcusable treatment of the kicker last year.

This incident is being made common knowledge among recruits.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

Yeah Badgers! Now don’t complain about the taxes it takes to keep UW running.

Big Mike said...

I think that calling themselves "the U" came from the fact that there are two Miami Universities playing Division 1 football. The Miami University that Wisconsin played last night is in the state of Florida and has won five national championships in football, though the last one was in 2001. The team is noted for arrogance and controversy (see the Wikipedia article for more about that aspect of Miami football.

The other Miami University is located in Ohio and it plays in the Mid-American Conference, so it is not in the top tier of football programs. To clarify which team is which, football announcers generally use "Miami University" for the Division 1A team in Florida and "Miami of Ohio" for the one in, well, Ohio. From there it was a simple step to emphasizing the word "the" in "the Miami University" when NFL players from that school were introduced at the start of NFL games, and finally dropping the word "Miami" as part of the arrogant mystique that the school's football program really no longer should be enjoying.

Hornibrook had a great game. it was a fun game to watch and the Badgers success made up a bit for the Packers disappointing year

Comanche Voter said...

It was a great game to watch. Jason Gay at the WSJ will be over the moon that his Badgers did well--and he may lord it a bit over the Wolverines that dominate the WSJ staff. And of course our host will be delighted.

I think either Urban Meyer or Nick Saban was qouted as being opposed to an eight team college playoff. Whichever of them said it was quite correct---these games are sledgehammers with two very good teams going at each other. You really don't want to put a team through three such "sledgehammers" to win the national championship. Two is more than enough.

Big 10 needn't worry about Michigan. South Carolina is a gift opponent for them.
