Off topic, yes, but a very cool video. The changing of the guard is something to see.
ARM doesn't understand what a militia is, and he wants to be sure he mentions it often enough that you know that he doesn't know what a militia is.

Who can forget ARM's other great hit from the other day where he minimized another dem/lefty physical political-motivated attack on a republican and tried to excuse it as just a neighborly quarrel.
You know, like that "misunderstanding" between Bernie Bro/lefty Hodgekinson and those republicans that "got a little out of hand" but is all better now.
If the allegation against Moore is true, then Bannon needs to learn how to vet candidates. If false, then he should be in Alabama helping to prove that the allegation is a hoax.
ARM should learn how to read the US Code, where the militia is defined.
The point of the Second Amendment is to preserve the capability to oppose those fellows doing the changing of the guard ceremonies.
Armies are meant to be impressive and have an emotional impact, that is part of their point, to preserve the mystique of power and legitimacy.
Looking at this without patriotic biases, there are a lot of militaries around the world that can and do put on such ceremonies. This has been going on since war-bands did their war-dances around the tribal camp-fire.
Armies with good form in ceremonial are common. That is not a bit unique to the US; in fact traditionally the US military was held to be quite deficient in ceremonial snap.
What is (almost) unique to the US is the institutionalization of a right to revolt.
And that, the American ethic of revolt, is the subtext of Bannon, and Trump, to bring it back to this interview.
Listen to Bannon. He is a revolutionary speaking to those he is attempting to overthrow.

I wonder, to flip the question, not why Bannon spoke to the NYT (as the fictional-editorial meeting asked), but why the NYT spoke to Bannon.

This is an uncomfortable thought, because it is not normal in a comfortable society to realistically contemplate these things, but the unavoidable subtext, the necessary conditions and the effect of the Second Amendment are: tyranny, impunity, mass murder, chaos.
This revolutionary provision is not going to, or intended to, produce comfort. It is meant to create dissatisfaction, uncertainty, fear, among the ruling class.

Bannon is explicit about this, the subtext of the 2A, without mentioning the 2A. But Bannon, Trump, and the 2A are highly related.
I must admit that I am confused by the concept of people not grasping that long time neighbors might have a complex relationship that crosses multiple issues, not exclusively to do with gardening but unlikely to exclude it, especially along the property line.

I think the NYTs wasn’t gobsmacked so much as suspicious. Of course Bannon thinks he’s playing some brilliant game, of course they know what he’s attempting to do. The NYTs didn’t just fall off the turnip truck.

The baseball field shooter's gripe was about gardening too. He objected to the baseball diamond and wanted to see the space returned to its' pristine natural state.

ARM: It's clear that in context of the 2nd amendment that the people and militia are one and the same. Federal law defines the organized militia as the States National Guard and the unorganized militia as every man 18-45. I guess everyone else is a member of the disorganized militia.
The people's right to keep and arm bears is regulated. Given the gun murder and suicide rate of the US, a reasonable case can be made that the militia (the people) are poorly regulated as far as guns are concerned. This is especially true with inner-city gang and drug violence as well as the lone nutter white male mass murderer "you people" fixate on. You and your democratic friends might have more success improving the regulation of existing laws instead of gunslut shaming ignorant peons who dwell in Trumpland.

That was stupid on so many levels, Billy Madison-esque. I almost congratulate you. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you have not read the Go Rin No Sho.
Incidentally the clip you posted was both hideous and tedious. I couldn't listen to it for more than a few seconds at a time before hitting fast forward. And Dr. Demento was a name much conjured in my youth, so I'm sad to hear how lame the show actually was.

I agree about doctor demento. Never was into it during it's heyday, but I was just a wee lad. He had a Sunday night show in the mid 80's and the only thing I renembered was the tai kwon leap boot to the head routine.

I started working construction in Jr Hi and still mix it up turning wrenches and building processes in industry. Early on, it became obvious to me that the more snark and crap the "old guys" heaped on you, it meant you were being accepted into the tribe. Snark and sarcasm is a form of communication that ironically transmits respect and male bonding. Someone who is always serious, fastidious, proper, overtly respectful, eager beaver etc, is considered a pussy, an office pogie, a college boy.
Unfortunately, not everyone goes through this type of socialization and therefore fails to understand the linguine frankfurter.
You obviously don't understand counting coup where the goal is to get close to your enemy, give them a boot to the head and get away. It takes more skill, courage and respect than the chopping and displaying of heads that you describe. That's a part of your culture that I cannot relate to.
