The use of children in politics... of course, Donald Trump Jr. knew the taunting this Instagram would touch off.

You'd have to regard him as an idiot not to credit him with the intent to instigate haters to attack with things like: "the only time you’ll see a trump in a uniform #draftdodger."

And of course, those terrible, mean comments — aimed at children! — bring massive support — protect the children!

It's an old game.

Idiot Progressive bait. Purposefully posted. This will probably work like a charm.

You get children in politics from women voting.

You can also view the girl as costumed like the bachelor-party strippers that come dressed as police.

As Mötley Crüe once said: "Girls, Girls, Girls."

It's an old game, but at least now two sides are playing.

Easy. She dressed as Webb Hubbell's daughter.

Sorry Laslo, I deleted my comment. I will re-post it with some additions.

A Russian banker? AS plastic surgeon?

Well, yeah; obviously I was never going to have the chance to be the first person to write and observation about, "the only time you'll ever see a Trump in uniform." Although I might observe that seeing Trumps in make-believe uniforms is a long family tradition.

But I really wanted to parse this Althousian phrase: "You'd have to regard him as an idiot not to credit him with the intent to instigate haters to attack..."

So Don Jr. gets "credit" for having the intent (apparently successfully achieved) to instigate haters to attack, using his kids as bait?

This is one of the more Scott Adams-y posts in recent days from Althouse, but again it fits the point I was making yesterday in the open post; that the essence of Trumpism isn't an sort of policy at all, but rather about a kind of cultural warfare. And that the overriding interest of Trumpists is all about how that war is messaged, and how it divides, rather than any real cause that it supports.

Is there a new rule now that you can't post pictures of your children?

There is truth to this, I believe. Except there is a 'sort of policy'.

Culture has been cutting one way for decades. Culture is the world we live in. We are experiencing a rejection of the Elite: diminish their power and you diminish their ability to make policy.

Removing rot is as important as enacting good policy, perhaps more so.

The Republicans at the Federal level haven't done either.

That's always sad.

There's cruel neutrality again. A Republican dad posts cute pi6. Democrats mock the children. The Republican is to blame.

There is a lot of hysteria over the posting of children or even taking pictures of them.

That is why now news sites fuzz out their faces.

It’s an old game, but used to be only the Democrats played it. The Republicans were Charlie Brown with Lucy snatching the football away.

Twitter trolling like Daddy (though with an "aw, that's cute" angle to really hooks 'em in.)

Here's a fair question: Is there *any* picture of his kids he could have put out that *wouldn't* have lead to a bunch of mockery/attacks on the kids?

I mean, I admit: This is obvious troll bait that he's throwing out there, but, could he have put anything out there that WOULDN'T have draw the trolls? They're omnivorous like that.

Well. Chuck.
He did go to military school. That might seem like a joke to you but he did get five tears of JROTC training. Nothing to sneeze at.

Ken B said...

Matthew,
Exactly. That's why this is cruel neutrality in action. Trump Jr exists, democrats spew bile. Cruel neutrality sees these are comparable offenses.

Culture is upstream of politics, as heard on Instapundit.

Policy, and even ideology, derive from something, they do not appear spontaneously.

Its not just an internet meme. You will find the same point made by ancient conservatives like Confucius and Cato the Elder.

Howard said...

Rusty is right. JROTC training is frequently compared to seal training and as a result has a high incidence of causing bone spurs in the feet that miraculously dissolve after scions no longer need to defer.

My point is that yesterday, I was saying that stories like this are what animates Trump and the Trump base. Divisive hatred, over things like pictures of kids. (I don't want to give Don Jr. too much credit here, either. It is one thing to take pictures of your kids and share them with family and friends. But these pictures were posted to whatever passes for "social media." He might as well have hired a public relations consultant.)

Kids dressed up for Halloween seems to matter a lot more to some people, than health care or tax reform. I really do think that (speaking of "establishment") the core of the Trump base are people who worry about pictures od kids on Halloween because they don't have to (or should, but don't) worry about taxes or health care costs.

Not to make too big a deal about it, but surely no one believes that the Trump grandchildren "picked out" their military/first responder Halloween costumes, right?

I picture a darkened conference room like "The Apprentice," and a team of consultants showing slides of various costumes to Don and his team. And Don asking questions about who has done the polling on the various choices.

Howard said...

Chuck, the core of the Trump base and much of your GOPe base are easily emotionally triggered because they choose to make themselves physically and psychologically impotent by opium and insulin resistance. Sad. Uday is showing the base he cares and they obediently slurp it up in bigly gulps.

Matt Sablan said...

Don't you think it is a bit rhetorically irresponsible to try and equate a guy who kind of dickishly used his kids to bait a bunch of assholes and a guy who is a serially rapist and murdered athletes who didn't perform well?

I mean, if "guy is kind of a dick" is the equivalent to "mass raping murderer," no wonder people try to shoot up Republican baseball practices.

Matt Sablan said...

"Well, yeah, he created rape rooms and used an iron maiden on people he disliked, but at least he never took pictures of his kids in costumes to make the Internet angry!"

In your mind maybe. But it is taught by regular Army personnel using regulation Army materials. It applies to your ARMY enlistment or whatever branch you choose. If nothing else it teaches good leadership skills.
I can't speak to Trumps bone spurs since I've had them myself.

Well ..Kids can no longer "culturally appropriate" anything on Halloween anymore (or any other time as well). Nope little girls can't dress up as a Disney Hawaiian Princess (Moana) because (I guess) only Hawaiian girls can pretend. Can't dress in any ethnic clothes, unless. Can't can't can't can't. Little boys should be costumed in aggressive things like super heroes, My grandson wanted to be Spider Man last year but was nixed by the school Nazi's and just became a spider. Can't dress up as a Geisha, unless you are Japanese. Flamingo dancer...nope. Mexican bandito...nope. Wonderwoman....nope. etc etc etc etc etc nope nope nope.

The list of costumes that are forbidden to those horrible white cisgendered, non trans children is unlimited.

Sooooo....since they are forbidden from playacting or pretending, might as well just go with being something that really sends liberals into a fainting, hyperventilating, hissy fit.

They want us all tippy toeing around afraid to be offensive. Screw that.

Howard demonstrates the ease with which Leftists are trolled into pissing themselves. This was a post about how easily Leftists are trolled into pissing themselves and, by Golly, there was a least one (well, one and a half counting Chuck) who couldn't wait to do so. The remarkable thing about all this is that we had to wait until 2016 before there was someone combative enough to beat the Left at their own game. In retrospect, it's obvious why the Romneys and McCains were beaten like groveling dogs.

no shit, Chuck, you finally figured that out? That New York Democrat Donald Trump's major appeal to Republicans is that he's willing to do unto the Left as the Left has been doing unto us?

Now, let's be clear: He's had some great appointments: DeVos, Pruitt, Perry, Gorsuch immediately come to mind. So far as I know, all of his judicial appointments have been good. His war on regulations has been great, and ending Obama's BS on men in girls bathrooms, Iran, Title IX and CSRs has been wonderful.

But the way he made it into office is because he's not willing to accept that there's one rule for the Left, and another for the rest of us.

And that's entirely a good thing. If that "divides America", it's only because the Left are utter monsters who aren't really part of America, anyway.

Which they demonstrate every time an NFL player refuses to stand for the National Anthem.

You aren't required to be a patriotic American, But we're not required to respect or value you if you're not

Now, let's be clear: He's had some great appointments: DeVos, Pruitt, Perry, Gorsuch immediately come to mind.

You realize, I was a huge fan of the Gorsuch nomination from the start. And I genuinely liked the whole process except for Trump's blunder with claiming that Senator Blumenthal mischaracterized Gorsuch's comments when in fact he quoted Gorsuch exactly. I love the guys at the Federalist Society and Heritage who set Gorsuch up for Trump.

Moreover, I was a champion of the Betsy DeVos nomination at Education. You realize, I hope, that she and her husband Dick are the prototypical Republican "donors." They have been generous to all phases of electoral activity. She's the former (and deeply respected) Michigan GOP Chairwoman. Of course, she seemed to be outwardly and profoundly offended by Trump during the primary season and never endorsed him until after he was the nominee.

Rick Perry is a nice addition to the cabinet because he seems to have had the self-discipline to not screw up. A product of his experience as Texas Governor, no doubt. I don't know of Rick Perry saying anything stupid yet. I'd say that Rick Perry is a nice fit in the GOP establishment, but that might upset you.

You didn't mention Mick Mulvaney; can we add him to the list of good Trump nominees?

One of the reasons (and there are many) that I think less of Trump is that he appears to have dodged the draft. But give it a rest! The draft ended 45 years ago. No male in this country under the age of 65 was ever subject to the draft, and no female of any age. George Bush (41) was a genuine war hero, and he was defeated for the Presidency by Bill Clinton who appears to have been a draft dodger like Trump. If you're going to criticize Trump, how about telling us how you voted in that election.

Michael K said...

"Bill Clinton who appears to have been a draft dodger like Trump. "

Bill Clinton lied to his draft board.

You are assuming that Trump did not have heel spurs. Maybe he didn't but heel spurs are still a disqualification for military service.

Do you know anything about the argument you are making ?

Do you know that we test for heel spurs ?

Do you know why they are disqualifying ?

I agree that the draft is over but the slurs continue forever and lumping Trump with Bill Clinton is a slur. Why do it?

Big Mike said...

I was drafted during the Vietnam War. I have a right to compare Trump’s medical deferment with Clinton’s lying to his draft board. Chuck does not. I note that Chuck asserts with no proof that Trump paid doctors to lie about the bone spurs. Michael K, a doctor, says they not only are bone spurs medically disqualifying, but draft board doctors test to confirm the condition. That confirms my own experience with draft board doctors back in the day, as well as the experiences of others in my age cohort. I can also confirm that plantar fasciitis, causes extreme and debilitating pain — wish mine had manifested in 1969 instead of the mid-1980s.

Meanwhile William J. Clinton evinces no shame at having lied to his draft board. None.

So I rate Clinton as vastly worse than Trump. And I rate Chuck as a moronic imbecile.

So show us the medical records. Show us x-rays, from whenever. And by the way I regard my story as far more credible, than the claim that Barack Obama was not born in Hawaii. I say that not as a supporter of Obama (I voted for his Republican opponents twice) but rather as a person of ordinary intelligence who thinks Trump is a lying blowhard.

And no need to cite Bill Clinton to me. I have never once voted for a Clinton.

Big Mike said...

My dear Chuck, every once in a while you post a comment so ridiculous that the only possible response is: fuck you.
