Why no post about the idiots at Wisconsin-Madison who want to take down Lincoln's statue because he owned slaves?

Maybe you didn't notice the update on that story: "This article has been updated to note when the University of Wisconsin-Madison protest took place." It happened a year ago.

"I will return Saudi Arabia to moderate Islam, says crown prince."

That may be good news, or it may be the beginning of the end for the House of Saud.
Revolutions usually get going, not when things are really bad, but when they begin to improve.

You're right..I didn't.

But you didn't post about it back then either did you?

Adding on the Hagar, Islam is in the middle of a Reformation. Where it’s gonna go in the near term (100 years) is anybody’s guess. But no Reformation has ever happened from the top down. There have been successful impositions but I don’t see the Saudis as being capable of doing that. It’s more likely to end in a Gorbachev moment. He would do better to slow down and let things happen at their own speed.

What the Saudis can do is end their support for Wahhabism and stop exporting it around the world.

This café is a fallacy.

Has Meade been hitting fly balls?

Looks like Bill flew a lot more times on the old Lolita Express than originally reported.

The producer for Morning Joe should advise Scar'Bro that uranium is on the periodic table. It's atomic number is 92 and it's symbol is HRC. He apparently does not know it exists.

Fifty years ago tomorrow young John McCain was shot down and ejected from his A-4. Once upon a time he was a hero to me. Now I wish that the North Vietnamese citizen who rescued him had held his head underwater instead.

Let us hope for a Gorbachev moment. Much better than a Nicolas II moment

The problem is that the Saudis have been paying tribute for peace with that support. If they withdraw it, I suspect they'll suddenly be looking at a situation like the Shah of Iran back in the 70's.

If you buy a house, and one of its mature trees appears to be a gigantic Bradford pear tree, you should...? Let it be? Cut it down? I didn't realize those could get so large in a place with lots of wind and ice.

Mm. Yeah. We delved into it a bit yesterday.

I did a word search on "dossier."

I think you should search on "anguish" that should turn up some fun stuff. And maybe you can find in there a theory of how paying for the dossier of opposition research gathered in part from Russian intelligence agents isn't real collusion?

tcrosse said...

I'm just guessing it came up empty. It is something with which HRC, and by extension the committee that wrote her book, are unfamiliar.

Ann Althouse said...

"Dossier" appears 3 times. Here's the last one:

"Finally, to add one more bit of cloak-and-dagger mystery to this whole story, a lot of Russian officials seem to have had unfortunate accidents since the election. On Election Day itself, an officer in the New York consulate was found dead. The first explanation was that he fell off a roof. Then the Russians said he had a heart attack. On December 26, a former KGB agent thought to have helped compile the salacious Trump dossier was found dead in his car in Moscow. On February 20, the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations died suddenly, also from a heart attack. Russian authorities have also arrested a cybersecurity expert and two intelligence officials who worked on cyber operations and accused them of spying for the United States. All I can say is that working for Putin must be a stressful job. If all this sounds unbelievable, I know how you feel. It’s like something out of one of the spy novels my husband stays up all night reading."

That actually sounds like her voice. I think she wrote that section. Don't know what it means, if anything.

I stand corrected.
Maybe these unfortunate Russians were charged with dragging HRC over the finish line, and Paid the Price for their Failure.

If I had a Bradford pear tree, I'd probably replace it with a $30 apple tree sapling from Home Depot. If I had the space and I had kids, I might get a small orchard started by planting one on each successive birthday.

I like that idea.

What if you had an apple tree, 50 yo or more, and two years after pruning (after a bumper crop of gorgeous heirloom/nondescript apples), it bears little fruit (has also been dry in other years)? There is a little orchard half a mile down the street and I suppose we get pollinated thence, but my hypothesis is that it isn't enough. Would one of your $30 saplings suffice to pollinate the big tree? Or do you think the low fruiting is something else?

Also while you're thinking, we get a good deal of what appears to be some kind of worm, fly or beetle pest. Organic only, how to get rid?
