"He also told her to tell police to care for his mother's ashes. Burd was arrested a short time later and charged with first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree rape, second-degree burglary and third-degree kidnapping."

As it related to attractive women the comedic premise of the cost/benefit analysis of rape was commonplace in the '90s.
Kindness is everything.
If convicted he should be executed.
A form of suicide it seems.
He assumed it would be oblivion of some sort afterwards.
A last, evil, act by a despairing man.
"If convicted he should be executed."
Heh. Before reading these comments, I emailed this story to a friend who is against the death penalty with the subject, "Maybe We Should Have the Death Penalty for More Things."
She should've executed him when he forced himself into the apartment. If you open your door to someone at 4AM it's probably a good idea to be armed.
One of the reasons I get so upset about fake campus rape statistics is that they conflate boorish behavior, sex later regretted, and unwanted attention with actual rape.
Why does this story interest you, Althouse?
Interesrs me because of the weirdness of his numbness and resignation.
He had the energy to do the crime but not to try to run away. Did he lose heart midway through the enterprise? Did he feel remorse and want the relief of beer plus capture?
It sounds like he may have been remorseful before violating the woman's body and dignity, but he persisted with a momentum that predetermined an outcome.
A guy's outlook on sexualr women changes a lot after ejaculation, as to sexuality. What was that all about, he thinks.
It's not out of line that he becomes polite. Obsession gone momentarily.
That's how a guy knows his brain has some crazy wiring. Women don't get that advantage, probably.
Women may have noticed a less than sensitive partner rolling over and going to sleep. That's that change.
Bernard McGuirk, "You don't pay a prostitute for sex. You pay her to go away afterwards."
It's amazing the problems you get into because of a few square inches of hair.

Reminds me of the story of the defendant pleading for mercy after killing his parents, because as he explained to the judge, "I'm an orphan." It's called lacking remorse. Probably not his first rape.
"Hey, I know I just raped you, but could you do me a favor..."
No evidence of remorse here. Just narcissism and sociopathy.
