The Herald Sun names 5 groups that it says took part: Triangle People’s Assembly, Workers World Party, Industrial Workers of the World, Democratic Socialists of America, and the antifa. It quotes a woman — Eva Panjwani — that it says is from the Workers World Party Durham:
“Tactics are changing, which means that our strategies need to change, our unity needs to escalate and our demands to fight back and resist domestic terror needs to escalate"...I think that's a terrible mistake. Just as violence on the right captures the headlines and great stress is put on the need to single out right-wing extremists and to criticize the President for condemning violence on "all sides," you think it's a good idea for the left to call attention to its willingness to get destructive?
Alissa Ellis, of the Workers World Party Durham branch that was a participant in the Charlottesville protest, said people need to embrace multiple tactics because that is what kept her safe. “We need to shun passive, white liberalism” that elevates whites voices over black and brown voices, she said.Do I understand that correctly? Is she saying the nonviolence approach to activism privileges white people and violent tactics are needed to be inclusive toward nonwhite people? Isn't that racist?
Most important: Why did law enforcement do nothing? ADDED: That is, nothing but make a video. It's as if they're journalists and have an ethic against becoming part of the news.

When it comes to murder, the "alt-right" are pikers compared to the left.
To a remarkable degree it's "not about the statues." The statues we're talking about didn't show up yesterday...but the mob to pull them down did.
It's not even about convincing other people that the statues should be removed. Nice people like Paddy O and Freeman Hunt are willing to do that, with honest rational discussion and a genuine civic spirit. Those kinds of discussions sometimes drop into some name-calling, but that's not their purpose and they genuinely want to understand and convince. That's not what this current push to remove the statues is about, though.
This is about power--about the expression of power. The Left has the power to do these things both with laws & decrees and with their mobs. They want you to see that they have that power and they want you to submit to that power. They're not interested in changing your mind. They're happy to have you oppose them--they'll happily characterize any opposition as ironclad proof that you're a racist/sexist/homophobic nazi and on that basis will steamroll right over your ugly ass. They WANT you to have to choose: either submit to their power (granting them control over what statues or expressions generally are acceptable) or be labeled a violent Nazi who can be suppressed (dismissed, smeared in the Media, and beaten in the streets).
You nice people who say "well they kinda have a point on this particular topic, those Confederate symbols are a bit much" don't meant to help the Left--I understand that. It's naive to imagine you aren't, though.
The bottom 3/4 of the black population, especially the lower half? Who cares? No one, especially the black upper class.
Meanwhile in D.C., gentrification continues apace, pushing out black residents who have lived there for generations, as white hipster millennials move in and take over. And over on the D.C. I'm a moderate, I've not been a fan of everything Trump's done. I've been very clear that the violence coming from the Nazi groups is the reaction to unchecked violence from the left.
The way to have cut this off would've been for moderates on the left to have checked their groups. When I tell someone on the right to not get violent, they look at me like I'm crazy. Because if they go to a protest unprepared, they get acid thrown on them, urine thrown on them, attacked by people in masks, etc. That's a reality they've faced for years. Then, at the Battle of Berkley, something broke, and someone on the 'right,' hit back.
The reaction should have been seen coming, and the left should have wanted to avoid the escalation. They didn't, and now people I don't like are using violence against people I also don't like, and very soon it is going to spill over into society in general, not just among groups showing up to pre-determined places to fight. As it is, not all the protestors there *want* a fight, but they don't realize that they're just camp followers to two armed and angry groups who, frankly, don't care who they hurt in the cross-fire.

I doubt ARM/Shiloh has even met a black person. He might have met a few Hispanic laborers, people he'd hire to cut his grass or someone he'd hire from the parking lot of Home Depot to do physical labor for him. But in my experience, most of these crusading progressive democrat party "liberals" have never spent much time at all with people of different races or cultures.
