"Hillary Clinton wants to preach. That’s what she told Bill Shillady, her long-time pastor...."

"Last fall, the former Newsweek editor Kenneth Woodward revealed that Clinton told him in 1994 that she thought 'all the time' about becoming an ordained Methodist minister. She asked him not to write about it, though: 'It will make me seem much too pious.' The incident perfectly captures Clinton’s long campaign to modulate—and sometimes obscure—expressions of her faith. Now, as Clinton works to rehabilitate her public image and figure out the next steps after her brutal November loss, religion is taking a central role. After long months of struggling to persuade Americans that she is trustworthy, authentic, and fundamentally moral, Clinton is lifting up an intimate, closely guarded part of herself. There are no more voters left to lose. In sharing her faith, perhaps Clinton sees something left to win, whether political or personal...."

From "Hillary Wants to Preach/Religion is playing a big role in Clinton’s post-election tour. What does she have to gain from sharing her faith now?" by Emma Green in The Atlantic.

Which handler told her publicist to do this?

Q: "What does she have to gain?"
A: The White House.

Awesome. The more Hillary publicly flails about trying to stay politically relevant, the better.

After she gets bored preaching, she should take up professional bowling.

1994. Isn't that the year she was going around and talking about black youth crime and calling them "Super Predators" and we needed to lock them up for most of their life.

That sounds exactly like a minister of the faith.

"that she thought 'all the time' about becoming an ordained Methodist minister"

I woulda thought that being a UU "leader" of some sort woulda been right up her alley.

Anyway, this idea of Clinton's is just a joke, right?

BTW, isn't there a typo in the heading, "Hillary Clinton wants to preach [sic; screech]"?

A preacher goes into a bar and says "Anybody who wants to go to heaven, stand up." Everybody stands up except for a drunk in the corner.

The preacher says "My son, don't you want to go to heaven when you die?" The drunk says "When I die? Sure. I thought you were taking a load up now."

Rodham has always used Methodist methods. She just replaced Jesus of Nazareth's goals with Marx-Alynski goals and Satan that their method promotes.

So now she wants to switch back. And the Methodidsts will be happy to let her. They believe Satan can use free will to switch back too.

Because they're her court. As long as they are around she feels important and powerful as they attend her. When the court disappears, she just one more grandmother with nothing to do.

Wanting to preach is quite a different thing than striving to be more Christ-like. That the article confuses the first impulse for the second is telling.

Don't think there's a big calling for new ministers in their seventies. Now, if Chelsea wanted to become a Methodist minister . . . .

Hillary doesn't have to worry about the 45% of voters who will think, "papa said if you see it in The Sun (or a Newsweek quote from Hillary), it's so", and she's correct to write off the 40% of voters who wouldn't trust her to empty her own pockets during the processing at the start of the very long prison term she deserves.

Where I think she goes wrong here is not considering the impact of this news on the other 15%, some of whom may even have voted for Bill once or twice, who are now wondering, "the guy I voted for can't have a phone call to Australia without it making headlines the next day - how the hell does she get away with asking the press to keep a secret for her because she thinks it'd make her look bad, and they honor her request for over twenty years?"

So I proceed to read the article on Clinton's long term desire to be a preacher. Looking for "Jesus" throughout the article. Nope. The only mention of Jesus in the article related to a Trump reference. Hillary's "faith" pretty much mirrors the faith of the editorial board of the NY Times.

Bay Area Guy said...

Your confusing derangement with ridicule. Well-earned ridicule. How does a couple go from $35K/year in salary as governor of Arkansas to having a net worth of over a billion $$, without ever leaving public service?

Looks like they've decided that the GOP voters easiest to steal away from Trump are the evangelicals.

They might be right, but it's hard to imagine this will do it, or that Hillary will be the candidate in four years.

Oh, I'm glad to see that she's still fiddling with her guard. First she lets it down and now she lifts it up, I'm curious where she'll place it next.

Is this the new "Hard Choices"? Is every story written by a lackey going to contain some version of this in order to make her seem less manufactured?

I knew a lady that worked with the Baptist hierarchy. She helped place ministers in churches. She once told me that she thought all the applicants truly thought they heard a calling. But that the Lord must have been calling mighty quietly to some of them.

The one phrase I cannot imagine saying during a Hillary sermon is, "I believe, I BELIEVE!"

Mark Jones said...

I believe that she's had a lifelong desire to tell other people how to live their lives.

I believe that, having been denied the political authority to do so, she might be wondering if she can con us into believing she has the moral authority.

Came here to say this. If your motivation is to stand behind the pulpit and watch people listen to you raptly, you're the wrong person for the job. If she wants to serve the Lord, which is a fine way to spend her sunset years, she just needs to get a little Micah 6:8 action going on. He hath shown thee, O man, what is good: and what doth the Lord require of thee but to do justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Well, she has mentioned a few times how she wants to force churches to change doctrines that she doesn't like. So what better way than to become a minister herself and preach the new heresy?

Maybe Bill can get her to preach a sermon on the benefits of borrowing interns or something. Anthony Weiner would be in the front row.....
