Please respect childhood. It's not yours to appropriate for adult purposes.

Deplorable.

AND: It kind of seemed as if those kids were enjoying Donald Trump. Reminds me of the anti-drug ads that unwittingly make kids think the stuff is cool. Could somebody redo this old brain-on-drugs ad...

They really cannot help themselves, can they?

Isn't there some kind of 12-step program or something out there for media-ites who have lost all perspective and self-control and are accelerating toward rock bottom?

(But there's little evidence that they're anywhere near the necessary "admitting I have a problem" point, so I guess it can't do them any good, anyway.)

The children of the resistance need uniforms. Brown ones with lightening patches on them. And they could be taught to march in step. In step. In step.

Serious question... I wonder if Jeff Bezos is responsible for this travesty. It looks like the Amazon tycoon is pulling a Charles Foster Kane. Is it time for Althouse to divest?

This video is just more proof, as if more was needed, that the legacy media in general, and WaPo in particular, are not the neutral purveyors of the news they claim to be, but leftist activists pushing an agenda. It's a huge reason why they have little, to no, credibility.

Now, that is a video that could incite violence against the media. It certainly makes me want to punch someone in the face.

The idea of kids rejecting their parents thinking as an inevitable sort of coming-of-age rebellion is not correct. This happens because their parents thinking is challenged by influential, fashionable segments of society, making the kids change and reject their birthright in order to fit in to a culture divergent from that of their parents. These kids, unlike other peoples kids, will not be made to reject their parents in order to fit in, as they are already born into the dominant culture.

Some will, certainly, there are always mavericks.

The only way they will not be intellectual clones of their parents is if fashion and the dominant culture changes around them.

First, they set men and women at each other's throats. Now, they are provoking a conflict between fathers, mothers, and their children. We live in interesting times.

Pressing a high school band into performing at civic ceremonies develops a deep cynicism about civic ceremonies in band members, which stands them in great intuitive stead for adulthood. 8th grade in my case.

Develop that intuition.

Adults are liars.

They talk about protecting childhood, for example.

Where is the analysis.

I think Althouse resents the appeal to women you get by using children, and women fall for it.

Althouse solution: forbid using children.

My solution: take away women's vote.

I read most of the comments and the post and figured people were exaggerating how awful this is. But they weren't.

I was asked a few years ago what (as a foreigner living in the US) was the biggest problem facing the country. My answer was that most people seem to accept ad hominem as a valid argument. I cannot help but see this video as *teaching* that sort of attitude. It's enough to sneer, make funny voices, and exude group-think. As Althouse says, that's not how responsible adults treat kids.

Ralph L said...

Bush 41 had a train whistle stop near my house in the '92 election campaign. Someone invited a local HS band but wouldn't let them play. There was a small cheering section and piped music for the TV cameras. They probably lost more votes than they gained.

Make America Great Again hymn, by the First Baptist Dallas Choir

At last night’s “Celebrate Freedom Rally,” the choir and orchestra of First Baptist Dallas premiered a new song. It’s written by their former Minister of Music, Gary Moore, who was in attendance and recognized. As of today, it is now available in the CCLI database for any church who wishes to sing it.

Using kids for the political purposes of their parents is a personal pet-peeve of mine. I don't care how precocious you think your child is, they don't really know what they are saying. Plus, you as a parent are putting them into a situation where they could get hurt. I don't mean physically, though in some rare circumstances that could happen, I mean they could become the target of a person who disagrees with them. Now some people may say, "But wait. There is a general societal rule that kids are off limits when it comes to matters of politics." Yes that is true, but there is also a general societal rule that parents don't use their children for political purposes. When a parent does that they are in effect violating The Geneva Convention of Politics. The Geneva Convention is mostly full of two-way obligations owed by the parties. Sure a military can't target civilians, and their a rules regarding the treatment of prisoners. But there are also rules about stationing troops in and around civilian areas as well as wearing a uniform of your country while you are at war. When parents use their kids as political props, they are violating the societal rules around politics, while still hoping to be insulated from the possible effects because they expect the other side to still live up to it's obligations.

"At last night’s “Celebrate Freedom Rally,” the choir and orchestra of First Baptist Dallas premiered a new song."

If your point was that Christians do it too, you are certainly correct. Some people have nothing better to do than arrange little pageants for kids to put on, and their political views are likely to enter into the subject matter. But if you are suggesting that what is fitting for a church is also thereby fitting for the reeking, nakedly partisan shambles that is all that remains of a once-great newspaper -- well, OK. Yeah, guess so.
