"It sounds very strange when the head of the security services writes down a conversation with the commander-in-chief and then leaks it to the media through his friend."

"How, in that case, does he differ from [Edward] Snowden?... That means he is not the leader of the security services, but a human rights defender. And if he faces pressure, then we are happy to offer him political asylum too."

Said Vladimir Putin, in a long phone-in TV show he did today, taking questions from the Russian people. That's humor, by the way, in case it's not apparent to you.

"It sounds very strange when the head of the security services writes down a conversation with the commander-in-chief and then leaks it to the media through his friend." Humorous or not, it is strange, and Putin has the US elite pegged for their eagerness to take down the elected leader and pursue their own power, country be damned. His comments show, as yours truly has argued here, that the real benefit to the Russians is the demonstration of US weakness evident in the willingness of the establishment to screw the system, no matter the cost. It is "very strange," unless you realize that the national interest is not the swamp's interest.

The real pro-Russian collusion is between the MSM and Dem officials, to take down the administration and obstruct any action in DC, purely for domestic benefit. It must be delicious to Putin that an entirely phony accusation of collusion with and "hacking" by "the Russians" would be exploited by prog Dems to strengthen his hand in fact.

I see some humor in Putin's attitude; mostly none in his actual comments. I see a kind of horrific irony. Wherein a Russian/former Soviet KGB officer views the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation as the head of a "security service." The head of a security service whose mission is supposedly the protection at all costs of the head of state.

I'd like to hear more from Althouse on the nature of what she thinks is any humor in this entire story.

I do recall an old speech from Justice Scalia where he commented on the content of the Soviet constitution and its equivalent of the Bill of Rights. And how it all looked great on paper; just like our own founding documents. But how it meant nothing, without a rule of law culture.

When Robert Mueller -- the BFF of "Crazy Comey the Leaker" -- was himself the FBI Director, his FBI leaked information systematically in an effort to bully Steven Hatfill into a confession that he was the anthrax culprit.

The Wikipedia article about Hatfill reports:

[quote]

... Hatfill became "the subject of a flood of news media coverage beginning in mid-2002, after television cameras showed FBI agents in biohazard suits searching his apartment" and then Attorney General John Ashcroft named him "person of interest" in the investigation on national television. Hatfill's home was repeatedly raided by the FBI, his phone was tapped, and he was extensively surveilled for more than two years ...

At a news conference in August 2002, Hatfill tearfully denied that he had anything to do with the anthrax letters and said irresponsible news media coverage based on government leaks had destroyed his reputation".

Hatfill filed a lawsuit in 2003, accusing the FBI agents and Justice Department officials who led the criminal investigation of leaking information about him to the press in violation of the federal Privacy Act.

In 2008, the government settled Hatfill's lawsuit for $4.6 million and officially exonerated Hatfill of any involvement in the anthrax attacks, and the Justice Department identified another military scientist, Bruce Edward Ivins, as the sole perpetrator of the anthrax attacks. ...

In 2004, Hatfill filed lawsuits against several periodicals and journalists who had identified him as a figure warranting further investigation in the anthrax attacks. Hatfill sued the New York Times Company and New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof for defamation, defamation per se, and intentional infliction of emotional distress in connection with five of Kristof's columns in 2002. The courts dismissed this suit, finding that Hatfill was a limited purpose public figure.

In 2007, Hatfill settled a similar libel lawsuit against Vanity Fair and Reader's Digest for an undisclosed amount, after both magazines agreed to formally retract any implication that Hatfill was involved in the anthrax mailings.

Robert Mueller thinks that leaking information to bully people is a useful tool for an FBI Director to use on occasion.

I am increasingly impressed at Putin. Yes, I'm a slow learner. And the fact that he is where he is, and has stayed there for so long, should have long ago been ample proof of his talent and skill and patience and etc.

But his cold and low-key intelligence, his lack of ego-stroking appetite, are disarming. He is hard to keep in focus. It is hard to follow his inward enjoyment of impersonal ironies; the ironies of the chessboard, where one (seemingly brilliant) early move produces, many moves later, a trap and a terrible, inevitable, reckoning.

Here he sizes up our "security apparatus" and finds it and us...quietly hilarious.

Well, for him, maybe it is. As the joke goes, "Comedy is when a piano falls on you. Tragedy is when I get a hangnail."

This is why I do not understand the warped mentality of the Inga's and Dimm(itudes) who insist on trying to make Russia into a giant boogeyman. The only admiration people have for Putin is the clear fact that unlike the left in Europe and America, Putin loves his country and wants his country and his people to succeed.

Our left hates America, hates Americans, and is doing all they can to destroy America and its culture of freedom and responsibility. This is rapidly escalating to murdering people the left doesn't like. I again point out that the only leftist who comments here at Althouse who condemned the shooting of Representative Scalise yesterday was Sunsong. Every other leftist refused to do so, including you, Inga, despite repeated invitations to do just that.

I don't like Putin, but I wish we had people who actually liked America and American values as our leader. Instead of people like Schumer, Merkel, Macron, Reid, Hillary and Obama, all of whom are quite open with their hatred and disdain of the West and western values such as the individual worth of mankind. You guys love Venezuela, Che, Castro, and Stalin. And some of the leftists who post here openly announce how they can watch people get "cold-cocked" all day long because they are "Nazis." And who else are Nazis? Why, all Republicans and Trump Voters are Nazis. Right, Inga?

I'm sure you remember some of your fellow leftists poisoning Robert Spencer, head of JihadWatch. Remember how you didn't say a word about how that was wrong? Or Antifa attacking people? Maybe BLM killing a few police officers, tragic to be sure but who can blame them? Whitey has to be punished!

Our Media hates, hates, hates Americans who don't think Mao or Stalin were the greatest humans ever. They openly call for violent overthrow of the US Government, and you and yours say nothing or cheer. Madonna wants to blow up the White House, and that's a-ok with you.

At best, when pressed you say "I don't condone violence and you can't lump me in with all those who do! But all you Republicans are guilty, guilty, guilty for Gabby Giffords! And every Republican or Trump voter is a neo-confederate racist hate monger for Dylan Roof! Burn down the South! I'm completely innocent of the climate of hate you Rethuglicans embrace!"

Since yesterday was Flag Day, I'd like to post the lyrics to Lee Greenwoods, "Proud to be an American."

Quote:
If tomorrow all my things were gone
I'd worked for all my life.
And I had had to start again,
With just my children and my wife.
And I'd think my lucky stars to be livin' here today,
Cause the flag still stand for freedom and they can't take that away

[Chorus]
And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the ones who died who gave that right to me
And I'll gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land, God Bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well there's pride in every American heart and it's time we stand and say

[Chorus]

/End Quote

Now then. What part of that song does today's left sing? Are they proud to be American? No. If their possessions were gone, would they try to start over or demand Government take care of them? Their spouse--i.e. their transgendered partner who aborted their child would demand that the other half transition to one of Facebook's 59 genders.

Does the left think the flag stands for freedom? No, it's a racist emblem of an aggressor nation that is the root cause of evil in the world. To the extent the flag does stand for freedom, the left is trying to erase it: the freedom to disagree with the left. The freedom to worship. The freedom to defend yourself. The freedom to speak. The freedom to actually have a fair trial and not get railroaded by the left's political correctness brigade.

Let's see: Are liberals proud to be American? Ask Michelle Obama, who was not proud until her Husband was president. Presumably she's not proud to be American. What about forgetting the men who died? The left loves spitting on veterans and murdering them through the Veterans Administration hospitals. Will they stand up, next to us and defend the USA? No, they run around betraying America and trying to sell her out to the UN and claiming America is the sole source of Evil in the world.

What about "God Bless the USA?" That's offensive, unconstitutional, if you say it you should be jailed, and besides, according to Obama it's "God Damn the USA!" If, of course God can find the time in between Democrats booing God loudly at their conventions. I suppose that I should clarify that this is the Christian God: Democrats are very friendly to Allah and want Allah to run America. Why else would they violently attack people protesting against Sharia law?

Republican ideals of a small town, with churches and self reliant, independent people who care for themselves and provide charitably for their neighbors is the Democrat version of hell, since what need is there for progressives running peoples lives and punishing them in a town like that?

Right Inga?

The only admiration people have for Putin is the clear fact that unlike the left in Europe and America, Putin loves his country and wants his country and his people to succeed.

This rational thought, country first, and mode of action has been so diminished in OUR country by the traitorous Left that it comes as a huge surprise that other country's leaders, now Trump in our country and many of their fellow citizens also operate on the mode of Country first.

They so hate their own country and so hate the citizens, the deplorables who insist that American isn't the great evil Satan of the world, that they can't envision this rational self interest.

Self interest doesn't mean you are at war with or make enemies of other countries. You can be at odds with others, even be adversaries and still find common ground. This doesn't mean you are capitulating or doing treasonous actions.....you are dealing and negotiating.

If you operate from the premise that each of you (Putin, Trump, Netanyahu and any other leader of a Country) is also operating with their country first, as they SHOULD BE DOING, then you are able to come to agreements that possibly benefit everyone in some way. This is Trump's modus operandi. Make a deal. Get the best deal you can. Win, but no need to burn everything to the ground.

This is what used to be called diplomatic relations. Before the liberals with their "hate America first" attitude came to be ensconced in our government it was the way that rational adults dealt with others in the world.

Most of the time, it works.

This is like paying the Danegeld. If we let them do this to Trump, they will do it to Pence and every other candidate in the future.

So perhaps tone it down on the direct personal attacks against her, and the name calling? At least until she openly calls for Republicans to be murdered like Ritmo has.

@Inga I was trying to point out that if the Dems did, in fact run Trump out of town they will be faced with the same or more conservative attitudes that they are so busy resisting today. So far Pence looks like Mr. Clean so how will the Dems deal with Mr. Clean? Certainly there are no obvious character issues as there are with Trump. I guess I was saying that you should be careful about what you wish for.

I am not suggesting Trump resign, nor would I want him to. I would not like to see the Dems in a position where they think they have won. ( My point was that I think driving Trump out would be pyrrhic.)

I watch fairly closely what is actually happening in DC besides the MSM madness: administration staffing continues, judges are being nominated; the Senate is progressing on a health care bill: regulations are being rolled back; etc. Good things happen regardless of the headlines in the WaPo. Most Trump voters are happy with what's actually going on.

"For Sessions, practice makes perjury"

Sessions didn't even change his testimony when he testified his first time. He didn't mention meeting the Russian Ambassador at the Mayflower when Franken asked him the first time.

Dems: He was there! The Russian Ambassador was there! He lies! Perjury!

And the second time he testified he still didn't remember meeting the Russian Ambassador at the Mayflower.

Why isn't it perjury the second time? Because the Dems never had any information that they talked. It was all conjecture - he "might" have spoken to the Ambassador, his statements "might" have been untrue, he "might" have perjured himself.

But in all that time, they have uncovered no such meeting.

There was never any perjury, just another debunked allegation which is kept alive in the minds of those who need it to continue.

so Inga - correct the record.

Did "hands up don't shoot" happen? - even Obama's head of the DOJ Eric Holder admitted it did not happen. Why - because the only person who said it did, was Michael Brown's convenience store robbery accomplice. "Hands up don't shoot" never happened. The Officer shot in self defense after Michael Brown tried to over-power the officer and grab his gun. Read the report.

All the witnesses corroborated the police officers testimony, including black witnesses.
A black jury saw the truth.

Rachel Maddow pushed the lie so hard - most of the NFL, and many idiots in Hollywood did the "hands up don't shoot" chant. Also, the lie inspired riots and property damage to innocents business owners in Ferguson.

That's what LYING brings, INGA.

Do you get that? or are you THAT drenched in your fraud of an ideology?

I've never detested Trump, but I don't think I've bonded with him either. I am, however, bonded to the rule of law and the Constitution and the requirement that we accept election results regardless of adamantly we may have opposed the winner.

There is noise that some Congressional Republicans would welcome deposing Trump by whatever means available and work behind the scenes towards that goal. We know how the Democrats feel. So, yeah, if it becomes necessary, I guess I will "stand and fight." "Trump or die now" is not the hill I would have chosen, but it seems we're getting to the point that there may be no other choice.

I'll just point out that Inga has the exact same opportunity Brookzene had yesterday: Make an open, explicit denunciation of left-inspired political violence directed against Republicans, Conservatives, and so forth.

You can openly condemn it. Not weaselly "I don't condone violence" but actual, "I wholly and completely reject all attempts by the left to use violence to enforce their politics or punish people for not being leftists. People in America have the right to not be leftist, and not be in danger or fear for their life because they disagree with me and my side's politics. I call on members of the media and also Democrat social and political figures to vigorously condemn any and all attempts to use violence against Republicans or to promote liberal views."

That's a statement, Inga. Brookzene refused to make such a statement yesterday. Nobody bothered to ask Ritmo; we all know he endorses leftist violence.

So how about it, Inga? Get yourself some credibility and openly denounce the violence coming from your side.

Can you do it?

Fen: You believe X

Inga: Why should I denounce X?

Fen: Right, because you believe X.

Unknown said...

Certainly, Inga: I openly condemn all right inspired violence against Democrats that wasn't in self defense.

You want to find any? Most all violence is by Democrats, Progressives, and people who are registered Democrat. Or they did crimes but were not inspired by politics.

Even Dylan Roof, the shooter who attacked the church, was a registered Democrat. But you and yours certainly blamed every Republican, didn't you?

This whole thing with James Hotchskinson is just the right using your rules, Inga, and applying them to you and your side. Every Republican was asked to denounce James Loughner. To Denounce Dylan Roof. To denounce the Pulse Nightclub shooter. Even though every single one of them were Democrats. Your side blamed all Republicans. Remember Krugman's "Climate of hate?"

Well, guess what: your turn, sweetie. You get to be held responsible for this maniac's attacks, because he is literally no different than any bog-standard progressive. He has the exact same views you do. You, by your own standards, get to answer for him. He's yours, and you must own him. After all, you had no problems at all blaming all Republicans and conservatives for crimes committed by Democrats. Now you get to take the blame for crimes definitively committed by Democrats, and excused by Democrats, and for which your side is reveling in. Read Markos who called for Scalise to die--not a single Democrat has said that was wrong.

When we look around, who is the violent ones? It's the left. Fully, 100% the left. "But what about Trump's words!" Guess what: those are words. Where's the actual violence? Completely on your side. Multiple, repeated acts, egged on by Hillary's campaign officials. It's not the Republicans who are poisoning people, or hitting them over the heads with bike locks, or setting women's hair on fire, or attacking campaign rallies, or shooting cops--it's your side. Over and over and over and over again, it's your side. Yes, you are responsible. Yes, you have personal responsibility, because you cannot bring yourself to denounce any of it. Ritmo says he loves watching people get brutally beaten because they aren't leftists, and you high five him and tell him what a great person he is. You fully, personally, and totally defend violence by the left, and cannot denounce it.

You and yours played this game too long, Inga. "All Republicans are violent because of Person XXXXX! They must take full responsibility!"

Your turn, Inga. That shoe gets shoved on your foot, good and hard. Wear it with pride, Ms. leftist apologist for leftist violence who cannot bring herself to say that shooting Republicans is wrong. How hard is it to even say that? But you refuse to even say that shooting Republicans is wrong. Really? Really? Do you not see how demonic and evil that is? It shouldn't be a hard request to say that people shouldn't shoot Republican congressmen.... but you can't even bring yourself to do that. You are offended to even be asked to condemn it.

That's why you need to condemn it, isn't it? Because you openly are troubled by being asked to condemn shooting and killing Republicans. The fact you cannot condemn it without hesitation is appalling. Only Sunsong has had the decency to be appalled by Democrats shooting Republicans. You cannot nor will you even try to say it's wrong. You fully support it, in other words.

Else you wouldn't have any problem condemning it. But you do have a problem.

Because I've seen lots of leftists arguing that the Republicans were attacking people so by shooting them it was "self defense" of the "poor".

That's ok, Inga. I didn't expect you to come right out and say that shooting Republicans was bad. I certainly didn't expect you to actually say that murdering Republicans and Conservatives is a bad thing.

Good thing you wont' say that, because let's be honest: who would believe you? So thanks for not putting out a lie. We know you don't have any problem with this shooting, so I guess it's good you cannot bring yourself to condemn it.

Again, only Sunsong has condemned this shooting, and it was her first post on the subject. The rest of the Althouse liberal commentariat haven't, and cannot bring themselves to say the words "I condemn this attack and any and all shootings of Republicans by Democrats. It is wrong to kill my political opponents."

We all can draw conclusions from you leftists who cannot say those simple words. Especially since you guys repeatedly refuse to do so. Sunsong got it right. Why can't the rest of you--if, that is, you truly think that killing Republicans is wrong.

So go ahead and revel in your refusal to denounce violence by your side Inga. I won't press you to go over your "one denunciation per day" rule. But please, when others say you support political violence, don't try to claim innocence. You've shown your true colors. And they run red. Blood red.

Inga, I'm not the one who is refusing to say "Killing my political opponents is wrong." Here, I'll do it for myself: Despite my differences with leftists, I do not think that murdering them in cold blood is in any way, shape, or form acceptable. I denounce any Republican and those who agree with them when and if they go hunting Democrats to murder them.

I can't be any more clear.

You, on the other hand? What are we to conclude from your refusal to condemn this shooter, or even the concept of murdering Republicans? This shouldn't be hard, Inga. Or Ritmo, or Brookzene, or Trumpit. Sunsong, who is also a liberal, was appalled by this shooting and murder attempt. I am dead certain that Althouse, also a Democrat, does not condone killing Republicans.

Yet you refuse to say those words, only saying it's "Nuttery" to ask you to do so. Yet this guy was you. His political views are exactly the same as yours, as best as we can tell. He obviously thought killing Republicans was a good thing. Therefore, since you and him are political twins, it is indeed logical to ask if you share that same view.

The fact you openly refuse to condemn shooting Republicans says a lot, doesn't it? Are you also a member of "Terminate the Republican Party?" Inga?
