At Sara's Café...

Mike Stanton of the Miami Marlins turns left after getting to first base and makes two jab steps to the left, thinking Anthony Rendon, Washington Nationals third baseman didn't have a play. Rendon did, in fact, corral the ball and made a slightly errant throw to first base, where Zimmerman tags Stanton in fair ground. Ruled safe(???). The only way you can over-run first base is by staying in the running lane with no turn to second base.
There is supposed to be one set of rules for everybody, and not one set for stars and then another for everyone else. What the Fritos, MLB ...?

Go now, don't look back, we've drawn the line
Move on, it's no good to go back in time
It required some effort to connect the dots, but it was well worth it.
Has anyone ever seen anyone in the NBA get called for carrying he ball in the last twenty five years?
Shouldn't that be 14 years, not 2.
Has anyone watched the NBA in the last 25 years?
Down here, it's NCAA or nothing.
NB what?
Beautiful dog. Brings to mind our last meal in Carmel last night at The Forge in the Forest. The outside tables come surrounding a gas heater hearth, or two (it gets cool in the coastal Northern Cal.), and dogs. Each party there brings several dogs. The waiters bring water bowls out for each newcomer dog. And of course we loved on them.
I swear one couple was obviously dating and they had each brought their own dog, with a mat to lay on. Getting to know one another.
Every now and then a new dog comes in and there is a territorial bark or growl, but they were amazingly behaved.Sad to report men in shorts is the rule in California. We split a bottle Carnivor. It is a Red wine bottled in Modesto, of all places, and had a smooth Cabernet Sauvigon experience.
Sadly, I must report that grown men wearing long shorts and rubber sandals is the rule in Coastal Northern California.
Carmel is Carmel, tradguy.
Try Fishwife in Pacific Grove next to Asilomar.
Seems I've been "moderated" out. Musta the reference amazonsmile & the charity I support?

Will we be able to say the same about the Special Counsel?
Check out Ritmo's profane, racist tirade on the "WWIII" thread. If he/she isn't banned from this blog after that, I'm calling total BS on the "new policy" alluded to several times by Meade in the recent past.
Just sayin'
I don't get the variable strike zone in baseball, nor the lack of travelling calls in the NBA, but there is no worse officiating of any major sport than the NHL. The have two rule books, one for the regular season and and a much thinner one for the playoffs. In fact, it's only one page - don't call any penalties. In the mean time, head shots to players (read:concussions) continue with little consequence.

Unknown yesterday: "And, in Sterling, Northern Virgina, "Muslim girl, 17, killed on way home from Virginia mosque". Police have charged 22-year-old Darwin Martinez Torres with her murder.
Trump opened the gates to legitimize hate and this is what happens and will continue to happen. Reminds you of lynchings of black people just a few generations ago - the Trumpski's of yesteryear."
Turns out the incident was road rage and Darwin, the perp, was here illegally.

Thanks for the update Hump. It's a tragedy all around. Two families destroyed.
It's so like the media to make every Muslim death religiously motivated and every black desth death a modern lynching.
They used to be in the news business, but pre-packaged righteousness seems to be what they're selling these days.
"The only way you can over-run first base is by staying in the running lane with no turn to second base."
Yes but how would that have made Stanton feel? Given the current state of the country, embarrassment and shame have no place in our national pastime.
Like Comey the first base umpire could tell Stanton did not intend to break the rules, and thus no competent umpire could call him out.
"Has anyone ever seen anyone in the NBA get called for carrying he ball in the last twenty five years?"
Yes but only in the backcourt when they're not in the act of shooting. They should just update the rule book to show where on the floor the infraction can be committed. You know, with a picture of the court and specific shaded areas.
The best part is the shocked look on the player's face when it's called.
Gahrie, that bugs me, too. Many NBA players carry on every dribble, and they travel on half of their drives to the hoop. There's a lot of moving the pivot foot, and some double-dribbling, too.
This year I watched some of the NCAA tournaments. The refs called carries and doubles in every game I saw. I wish the NBA refs would have a serious discussion with the league and announce, like the MLB umpires some years ago, that the rules are rules again.
They can't turn it off, can they? The violent rhetoric has become so integral to their speech that they don't know how to communicate otherwise. Just yesterday:
“So you have got to, Mary, act in an unprecedented way, think big, get involved in every way that you can,” Sanders concluded. “So, Mary, stand up and fight back in every way that you can.”
Sanders also called Republicans “cowardly” for not wanting to debate their Obamacare replacement bill in the light of day, and accused Republicans of being responsible for thousands of American deaths if the bill is passed.
Warren went a step further, telling Sanders she thinks Republicans won’t pay any price politically “for the harm they inflicted upon millions of people across this country. It’s cynical.”

Check out the names on this Maryland crime report:
MD DNR seize hundreds of Illegal Striped Bass
I'm going to guess most of them don't show up for trial.

Uh, I have good news for you....
Fritz, I hope someone eats them before they smell.
Humperdink, since a member of one of the Left's pet victim groups murdered someone from another pet victim group, I expect that that crime has fallen off the Left's radar already.
However, the next time "Unknown" shows up to spew about "Trumpskis" it would be good to remind him that, once again, he called it wrong.

According to this tweet at least some of the seized fish are used to feed animals at a sanctuary:
Fish seized from a poacher by MDNRPolice used to feed "Scales&Tales" eagles
Eagles don't care if they smell.

Beautiful area, maybe the most beautiful in all the world if we include Pebble Beach and the 17-Mile Drive - where I had occasion to walk one late night, back when I was Monterey's literary watchman…
