"The Democratic National Committee staffer who was gunned down on July 10 on a Washington, D.C., street just steps from his home had leaked thousands of internal emails to WikiLeaks..."

"... investigative sources told Fox News."
A federal investigator who reviewed an FBI forensic report -- generated within 96 hours after DNC staffer Seth Rich's murder -- detailing the contents Rich’s computer said he made contact with WikiLeaks through Gavin MacFadyen, a now-deceased American investigative reporter, documentary filmmaker, and director of WikiLeaks who was living in London at the time....

The federal investigator, who requested anonymity, said 44,053 emails and 17,761 attachments between Democratic National Committee leaders, spanning from January 2015 through late May 2016, were transferred from Rich to MacFadyen before May 21.

On July 22, just 12 days after Rich was killed, WikiLeaks published internal DNC emails that appeared to show top party officials conspired to stop Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont from becoming the party’s presidential nominee....
ADDED: I was surprised, writing this, to see I already had a tag for Seth Rich. I used it once before, on August 10, 2016: "Assange — seemingly bound by the Wikileaks rule against revealing sources — seems to say that the murdered DNC staffer Seth Rich was a source."

Who was 'hurt' by this? There is the motive.

Whose backyard did it happen in? Was it Minsk or was it D.C.? There is the means.

Who had inside knowledge of his schedule and his lifestyle? There is the opportunity.

IF the Russians and WikiLeaks got such high quality and internal intelligence from this guy and he was able to keep getting emails, WHY would the Russians kill him? You use the assets till they can't be used anymore. Agent in place.

Not to mention that killing agents is REALLY STUPID PR. How do you now approach Chelsea Clinton's masseuse Armando when he can read in the papers that he is likely going to be killed if he gives them intel?

So no. I am not saying this is a certainty, but the majority of evidence is that this is a random robbery which...didn't...take...anything.

OR it was a Democrat hit. THEY have all the reasons in the world to shut down a leak.

Trump asked Comey in February to shut down the Russia investigation. Amazing. Let's see how the Trumpists spin this one. It just never ends. There is a memo and a paper trail.

It didn't take a "Trumpist" to extract the BS out of that lie. See Althouse's subsequent post on debunking the "asked to shut down" part.

Actually, there is no evidence yet reported that this was a robbery. Nothing was taken. There is no reason to believe the killer was rushed. The evidence suggests his business was done. This was a murder.

No request. No memo. No paper trail. Just blather from NYT's anonymous cowards and Inga's unsubstantiated bullshit.

Dog bites man.

The Post and the NYT have promised not to accurately report on Trump or the Republicans. I take that as the last time they spoke the truth. They put out stories which are lies of various sorts done in various ways, truth shaded, truth edited, lie outright and so on. Other media find out after awhile how the different lies have been shaped. One group, the left, goes on believing the lie. The other, the right, having never believed, having waited for the independents to look at the story, now knows the truth about the latest lie. There are other differences between left and right.
The left still thinks that everyone agrees that Trump is awful and everyone wants him impeached. Even after losing the special elections which they thought would show how everyone hates him, even then, the left goes on thinking that "Everyone" agrees. And the left thought at the start and still thinks it will be easy to get Trump.
There was a young lady in Niger
Who smiled as she rode on a tiger.

The right understands that everyone does not agree with them. The right understands that the hard left wants to overthrow the election. The right understands that the FBI and the Washington Post worked against a Republican President and that the left is hoping for a repeat. And the right knows "Ain't gonna happen."

They came back from the ride
With the lady inside
And the smile on the face of the tiger.

My personal fave might be the whole "when will they report the truth about the 'stand down' order!" thing.

The most interesting thing about this story is the studied disinterest of the lefties in it. They are in hysterics if Trump has two scoops of ice cream or asks Comey if he would try to go easy on Flynn who is "a good guy."

A DNC staffer who was a Bernie supporter and may have had a connection to Wikileaks and is shot and killed (Not instantly. What did he say to the cops who found him ?) and no one is interested. No one of the 5 million lefties in DC, anyway.

I understand how it's an existential threat to their way of life and lies. I don't approve of it, but I understand it. And, if they can look the other way at one murder, they can look the other way for future murders.

What was the man wearing a Rolex watch doing on the street at 4:30 in the morning to be shot? First guess, suckered into a meeting with...da killer! If he'd been out jogging or walking his dog he would have been in sweats and maybe a Timex.

What was he doing in that particular spot? Again, why was he on foot a block from his house at 4:30 a.m.? For that matter how many robber-killers are out at 4:30 a.m.? By that point they should be asleep nodding off from their fentanyl infused doses. No CCTV footage? No tire marks, Footprints, signs of a struggle?

The killer had enough time to put a beating on Rich first (no noise? No screams?), then two in his back. But not enough time to rip a watch off a wrist or a wallet out of a pocket. Oh, but the flash drives he could get. Yeah those are worth 10 bucks a piece.

Casual robbery-plus by some hype? Not in a million years. But the Hardy Boys would solve this before Comey's FBI.

I can easily be refuted by any available detail on his time line, but it sounds to me like he was done elsewhere and dumped where they found him.

The only thing in favor of it not being a professional-quality assassination is that he was apparently alive when found. And if you believe that a robber could have been interrupted taking the valuables, you may as well believe that an assassin was interrupted delivering the coup de grace.

As for being shot with a .380... Wouldn't be my choice, though a single shot from one did the business for Trayvon Martin. But, there could always be reasons. Perhaps that .380 is the property of, oh, I don't know, Rick Perry, or Bernie Sanders' wife, or somebody who would be a useful Patsy. Or it was the only thing Podesta could get his hands on in a hurry. Whatever. Stranger things have happened.

This is the goddamn Twilight Zone. By the way I think people should listen to Buwaya because he's probably known more murder victims than some of us have had hot dinners. Ok, sushi dinners.

By the way, a propos of nothing, I wonder how many of the people clamoring for Trump's removal would be willing to give their lives or their freedom to accomplish it.

Cops patrolling the area heard the shots.

"Residents of Bloomingdale, which is about 20 blocks north of D.C.’s Union Station, had long been complaining about a surge in crime. One area resident tells Newsweek her house had been burgled a few years ago while she and her husband were inside. Two other residents who would volunteer only their first names, Jonathan and Kevin, say there were “definitely a lot of muggings and robberies” in the area. Another resident complained on the neighborhood blog about “a small group of guys with a silver handgun terrorizing this neighborhood for weeks with minimal response from public officials.” Residents were particularly incensed about a deterioration in security over the past two years related to a massive D.C. water department tunnel construction project just steps from where Rich was slain. High fences around it left the street occluded, with “hiding places for criminals and [no] sight lines for neighbors,” one resident wrote."

What I find particularly damning is that the FBI has known since July that Seth Rich was the source for WikiLeaks, and yet they undertook the bullshit Trump/Russians investigation anyway. Comey not only deserved firing, he really ought to be in jail. By agreeing to use the FBI for a fake, politically motivated investigation, he has forever trashed the reputation of that once-respected institution.

Comey has been around, he couldn't possibly expect that this would remain secret for very long and he had to know that his own reputation would be ruined by it. So why did he do it? Let's see if he or a close relative suddenly finds lucrative employment.

buwaya said...

There is supposedly surveillance video of the incident that hasnt been released, and IIRC it shows part of the incident, which should establish that it was a shooting on the street. Hearing shots does not rule out Rich being shot in the car and immediately dumped on the street.

Rich was supposedly at a bar most of the night - doing what? and who with?

buwaya said...

There are three "great leaks" of 2016 -

DNC email.
Podestas email.
Clintons email.

Rich answers the question of the DNC leak.
Clintons leak long predates 2016 (Guccifer claimed it in 2012) and Wikileaks had it in their archives for years.
Leaving only Podesta for "Russians".

I would really like to hear what he said after the cops found him. Of course, we won't find out.

Professionals try not to look too professional. The usual case with actual assassinations is that, except in special cases, to send a message, the killers do not want it to seem like it was done by professionals. This attracts the wrong sort of attention.

People are killed if they are problems. Random tragedy takes care of the problem, best if it may as well have been a car accident or a heart attack.

Now, there are cases where the killers do want to send a message. Killing people with nerve agents in the face or radioactive isotopes in their tea is the sort of thing one does for the sake of adding emphasis.

“As we’ve seen through the past year of unsubstantiated claims, we see no facts, we have seen no evidence, we have been approached with no emails and only learned about this when contacted by the press,” it read. “We are a family who is committed to facts, not fake evidence that surfaces every few months to fill the void and distract law enforcement and the general public from finding Seth’s murderers.”

If anything, the publicity will bring out more facts and potential witnesses. And why the shame of being associated with WikLeaks? What are the politics of the family?

There's obviously nothing going on here so the investigation should stop immediately and never should have been done. People get shot in the back of the head all the time in "robberies gone wrong." Anybody who thinks about it for half a second could see how it could happen:

"Give me your watch!"

"No!"

"OK, turn around so I can shoot you in the back of the head!"

"Whatever!"

I don't know if Rich was the victim of a random shooting or not, but imagine if he had been a RNC worker who had been a strong supporter of Cruz - or Jeb or Rubio.

Something tells me the Dems and their media flacks would be showing a lot more interest in his murder.

Cops patrolling the area heard the shots.

Those could have been fired off in the air. Or, he could have been taken, tortured and interrogated and robbed in Laslo's van, then thrown out at the site and shot then and there.

DC police are an unfunny joke. NYPD would have solved this by now.

I suspect it is solved. But the solution is not to be shared, as we would draw the wrong conclusions.

The link to the story no longer works, which may be because Fox has retracted it:

"a story was posted on the Fox News website on the investigation into the 2016 murder of DNC Staffer Seth Rich. The article was not initially subjected to the high degree of editorial scrutiny we require for all our reporting. Upon appropriate review, the article was found not to meet those standards and has since been removed."

From the Atlantic: "The story that was framed as evidence of the mainstream media’s collusion had become, in fact, evidence of the mainstream media’s restraint. The story whose subtext was the mainstream media’s inherent untrustworthiness had proven its real subtext to be the opposite."

HT said...

Wasn't this story disproven and didn't fox put up a correction?
