That conversation about Kathy Griffin.

Just now. That's Chris on the left in gray. I'm on the right in blue:

I still can't picture Real Estate blowhard Donal Trump becoming president. But despite that, I don't have much problem with the current reality that Donald Trump is president. In some ways, I'm even thrilled that he's president. (The "we desperately need changes no politician would ever make" kind of ways.)

Quite right Drill Sgt., the evil Christianist Fascist Donald Trump is the same guy they loved to pal around with just a few years ago.

I don't forgive Kathy Griffin. She just needs to disappear from TV; never to be seen again. One less no talent loon sucking up attention.

I still can't believe Obama was President for 8 years. He is the reason we got Trump. When he started doing things, no other president could get away with, and people got called RACISTS if they said anything, the right needed somebody who wasn't afraid of the media, and calling them and the liberal lies out...He is the only one who could do that...A politician would have been slaughtered...literally.

Yeah...forgive Kathy Griffin! That's the ticket!

Only if she works his 2021 inaugural party. And she has to get Emma Stone to go to Barron's prom with him. I think Trump is working on getting Scott Pelley to MC both events.

The art of the deal!

Bay Area Guy said...

It's purely a "double-standard" issue.

Griffin did a tasteless joke. Very tasteless. Full stop.

Nobody believes that she was advocating violence, though. Full stop.

But, we all know that if Drew Carey did the same thing with Obama's head, there would be rioting in the streets, cars on fires, and CNN would be shoving microphones in every elected Republican's face demanding that they denounce Drew Carey.

He would never work again.

So, I don't like the rule where jokes get you fired, and tasteless jokes gets you pariah status.

But the Dems vigorously enforce these rules against their adversaries, so I simply say goose/gander

Ideally, Griffin would not do such a graphic tasteless joke. Ideally, if she did, she would recognize it crossed the line, apologize and keep her job. She did apologize, but alas lost her job, because of the political goose/gander thing.

In general, the Left believes that Trump is so bad, that anyone can say anything about him. They have "otherized" him. The problem is that half the country, generally, supports him.

I`m kind of fascinated that Kathy Griffen did this when the fallout was so terribly predictable. Was this some kind of weird gamble-y trade off of her current gigs for attention that would pay off in a different way? Or is her judgement just this bad? And if it is this bad, is it bad because she is operating in a political bubble that is deluded about what is okay when it come to this (socipath!) president? It`s just weird. What a spectacularly dumb own goal.

OT Breaking News the House Intelligence committee has issued 4 subpoenas for their Russian "probe".

From the WSJ: "The Republican-led committee issued four subpoenas related to the Russia investigation. Three subpoenas are related to questions about how and why the names of associates of President Donald Trump were unredacted and distributed within classified reports by Obama administration officials during the transition between administrations."

"Those subpoenas seek information on requests made by former national security adviser Susan Rice, former CIA Director John Brennan and former United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power for names to be unmasked in classified material. The three didn’t personally receive subpoenas, the people familiar with the matter said. Mr. Brennan, Ms. Rice and Ms. Power didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment."

The committee announced late Wednesday afternoon that it would subpoena former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and the Flynn Intel Group LLC, and Trump lawyer Michael Cohen and Michael D. Cohen & Associates PC as part of its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign.

Carter, Reagan, Clinton, GWB, were all two term governors. Reagan and Bush of the two largest states in the union. Barack Obama was/is a uniquely gifted individual who brought dignity and steady leadership to the nation. (I bet even you won't deny that.)

Trump has proven to be a freak show. Which we all knew he would be. He is only one third of a year into his term and we all know it will become more crazy.

Someone could be led into a terrible action by this image which is the type of image ISIS uses to recruit.

It was done because in her world it would be funny and in her world it would be funny because they compete to say or do the most outrageous or hysterical thing about Trump. Her world is the media world. The reaction elsewhere doesn't enter into calculations. It was like that before the election and it's the same now only it's more evident. I suppose I should glad to see the left destroying itself via the media. But the left is such a large entity and so various that it's like rejoicing over the fall of enemy city as opposed to an enemy army. There's so many non-combatants that will get injured that you can't truly feel happy about it.

For example, the left has completely ditched the inner city blacks - jobs, education - the left doesn't care even in words about the plight "non-college educated" workers because the left is the left no longer. And the inner city blacks are left high and dry because their strategy is to elect and re-elect and gain seniority and thus power. If they were to leave the Democrats they'd lose all their accumulated seniority. But if they stay, they prop up a group that just doesn't care any more about them.

He might have done other crazy stuff (in fact, he probably would have) but it would have been different and better...or at least cheaper. Ford and Romney were clearly better than the winners. Clinton was OK because he had absolutely no principles. He and Gingrich, a couple of moral midgets (or should I say little people?), made a pretty good team for a while. The first thing this reminds us of is that political figures are human beings like us, EVEN IF THEY ARE REPUBLICANS OR CONSERVATIVES OR TRUMP. I lived through the assassination of one President (Kennedy -- I was in downtown Boston when the word came down) and attempted assassinations of two Presidents (Reagan -- I was about a quarter mile away from the site when I heard the news -- and Ford). Portraying the murder of a President isn't funny, no matter how much you dislike him/her. One reason for this is that Presidents and other political figures are human beings, not just players in some video game you're playing. You may hate Trump's policies, but if you hate Barron for no other reason than that he is Trump's son, you display that you are despicable.

MSG said...

Anyone of mature judgment is entitled to forgive injuries to himself -- it is often praiseworthy. So Trump can forgive the insult to himself. But forgiving an injury to someone else is another matter. By what right? Forgiving an injury to someone else seems to me a presumptuous misappropriation, even a betrayal or an additional injury to the victim. So Trump cannot properly forgive the injury to Barron. As for Barron forgiving, the problem is that he is still a child and not yet competent to forgive an injury serious enough to require serious forgiving.

Is the Overton Window a edge that has a sharp drop off. It's OK to joke about as Madonna did with explosives and assassination as Kerry did? Why is this different? And...has it escaped your attention that energy stocks are falling because of a glut in oil and natural gas? Natural gas developed, distributed and exported here in the US?

That doesn't explain a one or two-day sell-off. I realize you are accustomed to thinking of Trump as being as impotent as he thinks he is. But this is one part where the president can actually exert some influence.

There are other energy companies besides Exxon Mobil and Big Oil (your friends the Saudis). But even Exxon Mobil has come around. It's just a matter of aligning what they always knew to be true in their internal memos with what they put out as marketing propaganda or shareholder prospectuses.

Focus on each of the Presidents you have known in your lifetime. Each of them — except maybe Bush the Elder — was a very strange phenomenon.

Not sure what you mean by "very strange phenomenon." Take Eisenhower, for example. Electing the wartime commanding general president isn't a strange phenomenon in America (and although Andy Jackson, Teddy Roosevelt, Zachary Taylor and Franklin Pierce weren't commanding generals, they rose to national prominence as war heroes).

Without Carter and Iran Hostages, no Reagan. Clinton only won because of the recession. Bush would have lost if Nader hadn't run as 3rd party. Obama caught fire because the alternative was Hillary.

The joke part is the excuse when then mask slips. The people on the left actually want to attack people they disagree with. You know how I know? They do it all the time.

The goals and the methods are always the same. They revere Che and Castro BECAUSE they were murderous savages who seized power and killed or in-prisoned political opponents.

ANOTHER example of libruls being able to post hoc "explain" everything, but predict nothing.

MUltiple blue-state AGs sued Big Oil for knowing the true facts about "global warming", and hiding that info.

is it possible that the few highlighted examples of acting out libs is a small percentage of the total numbers of libs in the country? And, therefore it's misleading to apply the actions of these few (e.g. the bike lock swinger) to the vast numbers that have not done these actions.

Maybe there's some theory whereby making this guilt by association argument advances con principles because attacking (even erroneously) libs is always beneficial to con-ness. Presumably, I don't need to spell out the problem here re being a thinking person and making knowledge based decisions.

If you and the other leftists really didn't want this violence to happen it wouldn't. When a "conservative" does something awful we join you in taking them out. But when the lefties attack us? What did the police in San Jose do at the Trump rally? They purposely with orders from democrat leaders allowed the violence to happen. What do the police at Berkeley do? They ASK if protesters want to be arrested.

This is truly disgusting. And you do nothing. You say nothing. Even on this thread your target is us because we are starting to fight back. You let your goons attack us, shield them from prosecution for their law breaking, and attack us when we fight back. Sorry if I find your amorality and hypocrisy disgusting.

Was Obama sending the IRS after the tea party democratic? How about using US intelligence agencies to spy on political opponents?

Leftists know he did this and they still support him. That would put the number of democrats that support nondemocratic takeover at around 105% considering the impossible turnouts in corrupt inner city voting districts.

@Brookie, you are right when you said I was having some fun. You are wrong when you imply that the snowflake phenomenon has spread to the right. Out on the right you find a young man who received a blow job while he was asleep and yet he was charged with rape and expelled. The university is in possession of Emails and texts from the little slut, admitting to the facts of the case, but refuses to rehear the case. Out on the right you have parents wondering whether something like that could happen to their own sons. Mattress girl is a snowflake -- and a regular-type flake, too, it appears -- but the young man she has been harassing is not. If his parents sent him to the US to get a good education, he got a really good look at American society in the Era of Obama.

We have seen violence at Trump rallies, and no one cares -- not law enforcement and certainly no one on the left. So we're snowflakes to notice and complain? The reckoning is coming, sonny. The reckoning is coming.

Fen,

Just read the Para Bellum piece you referenced.

I pretty much came around to that way of thinking when Democrats started going after not just major public figures, but set out to personally destroy bakers, florists, rodeo clowns, minor professors, wedding photographers and wedding venue owners, and people with no money or platform to fight back. Memories Pizza and Sweet Cakes by Melissa were both libtard declarations of war on ordinary Americans.

Not politicians, not media figures, not prominent writers and people who made the choice to be ideological combatants. They set out to destroy the livelihoods and businesses of your friends and neighbors.

Then they worked to complete the personal destruction by issuing gag orders on Melissa Klein and her husband so that they couldn't even legally defend themselves in the marketplace of ideas, and they worked to cut them off from financial support by shuttering GoFundMe accounts, etc.

Since then, it's been scorched earth as far as I'm concerned.

That's the older, longer form of our phase "to one and all." I've never before thought about why we say that. It's verbose unless it's significant to speak to a group in those 2 different ways, and it could be. You're speaking to the group as a whole and to the individuals in the group (and, presumably, it makes a difference).

This might have something to do with the felt need for an expression like "you all."

(1) Althouse says she can't imagine Trump being President.
(2) Althouse says she voted for Trump or Clinton.
(3) Althouse would never vote for someone she couldn't imagine being President.

Now that may not be proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Althouse may say she was only joking about (1), or she may not be the person she presents herself to be so that premise (2) or (3) is false.

Should the fact of Althouse voting against the man but supporting his authority to make policy change the way we read Althouse? Is the refusal to acknowledge just being coy, or does it serve a purpose, noble or ignoble?

Good day to everyone out there and I am here to share a very great testimony of how I became free and happy today after all I went through with my Ex wife and her lawyer as they tried to end my life after my wife and her so called attorney tried to ruined my life. I was with my Ex wife for over 10years and we both have worked together that we had a joint account both in Europe and America because we loved each other so much that I never expected what happened to me later. My wife filed for a divorce and tried to claim all the money we worked hard for both in Europe and America including our only child Mira. So I almost gave up my life if not for the help of my very good friend who resides in Europe where I worked for over 7years and we have been good coworkers for years that introduced me to a hacker whom I contacted to help me hack into the accounts and move the money for me not to end up committing suicide at the age of 56 years. At first I was scared that if he falls and get caught what’s going to happen but my coworker assured me that his a genius and very calm and ready to listen to my problems so I proceeded with him to handle the hacking of the bank accounts to move some of the money for me without anyone getting to know about it till date. He was able to move %80 of the funds both in Europe and America via online banking system that I am now leaving in Australia trying to start up a new life and family too. Please I know too well there are lots of people going through this out there and I pray for you to be strong until you get to see this post that will change your life in less than a week of working with this amazing hacker. My name is Patrick Fisher and I tell you that his the best and very good hearted man to help you and I don’t know if he does any other hacking job but I can only testify for what a did for me.
