"How can anyone barbecue with the smell of meat near political prisoners fighting for their country?"

"Torturing" hunger strikers.

Personally, I would use a Weber grill, some wood chips and a couple of pounds of pork.

How? It's fuckin funny, that's how.

That does seem like the mildest possible form of torture.
More so even than the comfy chair.

Barbecuing Palestinian terrorists sounds yummy.

Can't the prisoners just be issued clothespins?

BBQ in the parking lot. Now THOSE are tailgate emissions everyone can enjoy.

Actually, the idea of holding a BBQ to taunt the posturing Palestinians is a great idea. Pork ribs, coleslaw, grilled cornbread, beer!! Hope someone brought a sound system to play some nice tunes.

Horrible idea. Why do anything to discourage the hunger strikers? The world would be better off without them.

Whatever one thinks of any of the players here, that's a really stupid question. "Why are my enemies, whom I hate and who hate me, behaving as if they don't think that my side is the holy, righteous, and completely justified one in this conflict?"

tcrosse said...

Maybe not pork ribs. They might be hard to come by in Israel.

I'll assume they are barbecuing beef brisket. Takes a good 8-12 hours, and it's a very torturous experience even if you aren't on a hunger strike. No one said the Israelis weren't clever.

As I understand the current state of "hunger" strikes, you announce you're on one, stop eating, but only until you're hungry, then eat. Lather, rinse, repeat. Voila! Hunger strike!

Now I'm hungry for barbecue. LOL!

I'll have to see if pork shoulder is still on sale at Meijers.

If you're willing to kill men, women, and children because that will get you onto Paradise where you'll find a bunch of cooperative virgins, I don't see why you should object to smelling meat cooking while you're on a hunger strike. Maybe your "suffering" will earn you an extra vigin.

And force them to watch this from the Tom Jones movie.

Just wait until the UN hears of this! They'll pass another resolution condemning Israel to go along with the 50,000 they've already passed.

Imagine how triggered a campus SJW who hates Israel and is a vegan member of PETA must be. Will these microaggressions never end?

Why is it that so few people die while on a hunger strike?

They should try an oxygen strike, and hold their breath. I think I was 5 years old, when I tried that last.

It's tough to get pork in Israel - but not impossible.

As this Israeli blogger notes, it's not called pork in Israel: "just a bunch of euphemisms: "basar lavan" (white meat), "basar acher" (other meat), etc."

I think the Israelis ought cooperate with the hunger strike, and refuse to feed them after they decide they're hungry enough to eat.

Jupiter said...

I suppose I might view the matter differently if they were torturing, say, the occupants of the prison that is North Korea. Which they are, constantly. But isn't the idea of a hunger strike that ....

What is the idea of a hunger strike? Basically, that your opponents are more decent than they appear. No one is trying any hunger strikes against Muslims.

Bill, Republic of Texas said...

Inga,

Not true. Pork is easily available in Israel in restaurants and smaller grocery stores. Not all Israelis refrain from eating pork. Christians, secular Jews, Russian Jews and international visitors all eat pork.

Saudi Arabia has outlawed pork.

But if you want to really torture a Muslim hunger stricker, put a young goat on a spit and roast over an open fire. Unbelievable yummy smell.

exhelodrvr1 said...

So it's torture for them to try and convince the prisoners to eat? Sounds to me like they are being kind!!

As well as pretty much the entire OT. Islam is built on the foundation of the Old testament.

Muslim dietary laws are the OT dietary laws. I am pretty sure that anything that is kosher is also halal and vice versa.

They also practice universal male circumcision because the OT tells them to.

The hunger strike is trying to get allah' attention. He has been ignoring their pleas to slaughter and bar-B-Que the Jews lately. They blame Trump, of course.

Islam is a Jewish heresy. Mohammed was infuriated that the Jews did not adopt his "improved" version of Judaism.

There were lots of Jews in Arabia then and even Jewish warlords.

I believe Muslims can eat shellfish and dairy and meat together, which the kosher laws prohibit.

I remember a story told by the American-born Israeli Ze'ev Chafets. It concerned a trip made by an Israeli delegation to Cairo after the Camp David accord. Israeli officials are expected to follow the kosher laws when they are abroad; however, the Egyptians, who appeared to be honestly unaware of the shellfish prohibition, served their guests giant prawns at a state dinner. The Israelis looked positively panicked when dinner was served. What to do? Follow the kosher laws and risk insulting their hosts? They decided sacrifices had to be made in the interests of peace and ate the prawns. (Chafets said the meal was absolutely delicious.)

Of course, the Israeli journalists present, some of whom had wolved down second helpings, took pictures of the politicians eating forbidden food, which caused a big uproar in Israel.

Well, of course. Pretty much any religion which is built on the foundation of an older, established, religion is "heresy" by definition.

Well, I do quibble a bit with that. Christianity was based on the OT but as a successor.

It had some of the negative aspects of Islam in the Middle Ages when Jews were punished for not accepting Jesus as Savior.

That pretty much went away with the Reformation and modern secularism.

The Muslims have doubled down on the "heresy" thing and seem to be on a suicide mission as most of the west will not accept their hegemony. The political left sees Muslims as "brown people" but considers them inferior and therefore exempt from the laws of civilization.

As Muslim outrages accumulate, the left will lose ground to those like Le Pen who will not accept this domination by inferiors, even if the economic policies stay the same.

Please explain the strategy of a hunger strike. I'm imprisoning you for a reason. Right or wrong I have the power to do that because I have the keys ( thank you Thyucidides). You disagree. You think that by not eating I'm going to find that persuasive? Not me. Knock yourself out ( figuratively). Why should I care if you eat or not?

On a ranking of zero to ten, I wonder how high the Palestinians would rank this as an atrocity. I wonder if they would rank this higher than the ISIS practice of burining prisoners alive. I know they would consider the Israeli BBQ worse, but I don't know by how much. If they're within two or three points, there's a chance for peace in the Middle East.

I can't believe jews are allowed to eat! When did this outrage start? Don't people know that the jews have been preventing the innocent, tender Palestinians from ingesting any food for thousands of years? Also, I'm pretty sure they're barbecuing babies.

Maybe scratch that Reformation part:

Martin Luther in his early days naively imagin[ed] that the Jews, to whom he was attracted by his studies, would flock to the Church in his reformed version. When nothing of the sort happened, he denounced them in a set of pamphlets written in vituperative fury. He had produced the early, favorable "That Christ Was Born a Jew" in 1523, but after he turned on this so-called "damned, rejected race," he wrote Against the Sabbatarians (1538) and On the Jews and Their Lies (1543).

Some more:

Luther now proposed seven measures of “sharp mercy” that German princes could take against Jews: (1) burn their schools and synagogues; (2) transfer Jews to community settlements; (3) confiscate all Jewish literature, which was blasphemous; (4) prohibit rabbis to teach, on pain of death; (5) deny Jews safe-conduct, so as to prevent the spread of Judaism; (6) appropriate their wealth and use it to support converts and to prevent the lewd practice of usury; (7) assign Jews to manual labor as a form of penance. Luther advised clergy, their congregations, and all government officials to help carry out these measures.

Those on a hunger strike should be given their wish; no food until they die. That said, Margaret Thatcher didn't take that crap from IRA prisoners who refused to eat although provided with food. Eventually one of them died when the British refused to force feed him. The rest got the message. Too bad we didn't with jihadi scum at Gitmo. We forced fed a few of them. Should have let them kill themselves. By force feeding them they achieved a victory of sorts. Thatcher on the other hand deprived the IRA that victory. A dead terrorist is a good terrorist.

There is no evidence that Mohammed even existed, outside of some folk tales written down well after his life supposedly ended.

Lydia, Luther was not that nice a guy but the Thirty Years War finally killed off most of the fanatics and led to tolerance.

Locke, in his Letter Concerning Toleration, realizes that happiness in life can exist even between people with differing religious opinions:

The toleration of those who hold different opinions on matters of religion is so agreeable to the Gospel and to reason, that it seems monstrous for men to be blind in so clear a light.
In other words ... religious differences, between people, ought not to cause them to kill each other. Even the Bible, through its Gospels, allows for differing interpretations on the path to truth. So ... why are we engaging in the “monstrous” act of killing each other over differing opinions about what should (or shouldn’t) happen along that path?

The benefit to the Jews was gradual but eventually it came.

I know but that is part of the story. Tom Holland's book is a good place to start.

Of course, writing that book has been hazardous to his health.

Grilled some wonderful ribeye steaks earlier this evening. Beautiful weather here in San Antonio, perfect for dining al fresco.

If the Paleoswine wish some relief, perhaps they should try to live in peace with their neighbors instead of waging perpetual jihad.

Two aspects of this from up close (I live in Israel):

1. This is a week before Israeli Independence day - which is marked by widespread picnic grilling, and comes a day after Memorial day - which still means something here. So the grillers are sending a clear cultural message to other Israelis as well.

2. One long-term point of contention with the Palis has been their unregulated burning of garbage - including dangerous chemicals and plastics. This is a nuisance/hazard in several areas where Palis live up close to Israeli towns.

GRW3 said...

Actually, the first question is whether they were barbequing or grilling. The former takes some sort of spiced/sugary rub and a long slow process. Even if its with rub there would be questions about the meat. BBQ can be beef in a lot of places but in the southeast it has to be pork.

"Torture" is living with the reality that your loved ones were murdered by a terrorist and that the ultimate goal of these terrorists is the complete and utter eradication of your race and homeland. All the while the majority of the world blames you.

If I could, I would be having a good, old fashion Hawaiian luau with a few nice fat pigs (except that it would be somewhat disrespectful to the Israelis).

I would go with the story that the Israelis are trying to be humane and are coaxing the Palestinians to break their hunger strike in order to save their lives, yep, thats the ticket...

"Pretty easily, it turns out."

There's no moral requirement that people respect the desire of hunger-strikers to not be reminded of food.

Indeed, one could argue that maintaining the strike in the presence of such temptations demonstrates a stronger commitment.

(That and I never trust a hunger strike to not be a cheat.)
